With the production run coming to a close in Chicago, Wicked tickets are at a premium as the folks around the windy city realize that this rare musical phenomenon is going to be departing soon.
| "Wicked is one of several musicals that have figured out that if you combine childhood memories with the theatre, you can strike gold." |
Wicked is still incredibly popular in Los Angeles, on its national tour, and, of course, on Broadway where it all started. Chicago’s Wicked production is reaching the fervor of an opening weekend. Not everyone in the metropolis has had a chance to see the show and they are scrambling to not let the show pass them by.
Of course, Wicked is one of several musicals that have figured out that if you combine childhood memories with the theatre, you can strike gold. Mary Poppins has been able to inspire audiences as the show brings the memories of Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke to life with an incredible show stage that make the story as real and mesmerizing as it has been in precious childhood memories.
The musical is playing in New York on Broadway, but will soon tour the United Kingdom and the United States, bring Disney magic to every corner of the country. Shrek the Musical will be the next Disney favorite to jump from the big screen to the big stage. With a show set to have a test run in Seattle in August, Broadway will gets its first vision of the green ogre in November.
Shrek will have to work hard to bring the pixilated characters to life. Shrek and Donkey offer a unique challenge to costume designers, but Disney has proven capable of meeting and exceeding every expectation. Lion King tickets are still popular over a decade after the show debuted. The musical was really the first to make the loved animated characters just as believable in real life. Simba, Mufasa, and Scar have been able to bring delight to children’s and parents eyes with the help of experts on the stage.
Disney might be worried that the Little Mermaid will get lost in the mix, but the show has survived a stagehand strike and has continued to shine on Broadway. Ariel seems to float in the breathtaking translucent set that makes the audience forget the barrier between the sea and the seats. Her friends Flotsam and Jetsam flow seamlessly around the set as Ursula plots to take over the underwater kingdom. The story is a marriage between the Disney animated film and the original Hans Christian Anderson.
The musical stage has become more than just a place for classic Shakespeare plays and timeless musicals of the ‘50s and ‘60s. Now it has become a playhouse for children of all ages as the animated features and classic family tales of the past are introducing a new generation of kids to the wonders of the stage. |
