Wicked #20!

Let me say, this is was one of the most enjoyable Wicked experiences! Cincinnati's Aronoff Center is a gorgeous, modern house that is spectacular for Wicked. I had been to the Taft Theatre years ago for Phantom but that was long ago. Anyway I sat in the last row of the Orchestra and my view could not have been better. I've never been to a theatre that has such a great view for being so far back. The only issue was the sound, the sound could not travel back loudly enough. I was fine but my first-timer friends were at a little disadvantage. Regardless, they LOVED it -- mission accomplished. We were in the city for all of 18 hours, traveling 4 hours just for this show, and we had a blast!

Mamie Parris - She was great! Immediately I noticed she is very restless and very expressive with her portrayal. She has this great voice that reminded me of a younger SJB and Idina. She seemed to hold back on her high notes, which could be because this was the day after thanksgiving -- too much turkey! The same happened with Donna two years ago. I saw her on Black Friday and she seemed to be, while not bloated or anything food related, holding back. A rough meal takes a toll on the singer. Back to Mamie, while holding back, she was STELLAR!! I consider her to be an averaged size Elphaba but Katie just towered over her. Mamie sang beautifully and acted with a painfully hurt passion and I appreciated that. Although I was far back, I thought she looked gorgeous. Her acting style, like I said, took a very aggressive approach by swinging her arms around a lot and at times she was hot-headed. I thought this was a bit over the top but then you have to realize this character more than any deserves to act like a hormonal teen. Mamie was wonderful and her voice was absolutely fantastic. I think one of the best things you'll notice is her delicate and warm speaking voice. She killed each song but didn't riff and I honestly did not miss it. She translated the text, written music and stage directions well, creating the role very pure and original. Wonderful wonderful!

Miss Katie - People can say what ever they want about her attendance, she is the BEST Galinda out there in my opinion. When I saw that there was no understudies (not even swings in for the ensemble) I was beyond excited to Katie. It has been almost to 4 years since I first saw her in Cleveland and now this being my 6th time seeing her, I can say I got the same amazing performance from her. She is consistently funny, charismatic, a good singer and an all around amazing Galinda. Many times actors and actresses lose there "mojo" in the role and I've seen this too many times. Katie, at least to me, has shown no signs of slowing down. How often she is at work is a different matter. I'd prefer a good show than a crappy show with someone who needs to leave. Katie was wonderful and I would be more than happy to see her again and again! One of my friends who did see the show with Chandra said "this actress is so much better than the other one" so, there ya go! She had wonderful chemistry with Mamie by the way.

Kyle Massey - SEXY! Good singer, FABULOUS dancer and all around hot man, what could be better.

Everyone else I felt was good but like my last review, I have seen better. I miss Alma Cuervo and P.J. Benjamin. Where is my old 1NT?

Anyway, GREAT show and I would recommend you see this cast if you get the chance.

I sat in BB 6 and was excited for 15 minutes for the partial view but I could not stay there. I'm a brat, I want to see the WHOLE SHOW! The show was not sold out totally, which saddened me, so midway through DOZ I moved to a block of opened seats, I think I moved to row M. It was dark. I was shocked, on ticketmaster, nothing in the orchestra was avalible besides the one I had bought. There were like 100 empty seats totally. My seat was much better and I only paid 72 bucks, so I can't complain! Silly me!

Chandra - I felt she improved since I saw her 2 years ago, apparently she is sick? She sounded fine; her character choices were more enjoyable. Her comedic timing was good but not as good as Alli or KRC. I felt she tried too hard at comedy and didn't focus enough on singing last time but now she got it together and I must say, I really enjoyed her performance.

Jackie She is talented. She has steel pipes that remind me of Eden. Her voice is just so lush. I felt her acting was a little bit too much at times. All in all she blew me away after every song. I think she is just is a great Elphaba all around.

Constantine (u/s) He was good though his singing was very lackluster but damn, he is good looking. His acting is quite nice too. I think he could potentially be a good replacement.

Other than that I feel the cast in NY is very strong. I do have to say I have seen better, nonetheless I have enjoyed the performance and got my Wicked fix!

Any questions?
