Oh man, it's that good huh? I haven't read it yet, but I think I'm going to be really forced to. Is it that much different than the Musical?
It's my birthday in 2 weeks, so I'm going to have to ask one of my friends to pick it up for me so I can start reading it!

They are on audio book? How much money can I pay you for those? or where can i buy that????
If I owned them I would think about it

.
When I was at the library I decided to read
Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister and while I was looking for Maguire stuff I found the "audiobook."
If you can find it at the library that's probably the way to go - last time I looked it goes for $30+ at Amazon. The book itself is getting pretty cheap now - I think under $10. And there's always eBay.
The thing about the CDs is that it's different to hear someone read the story rather than reading it - you sense the story differently when you use a different sense to learn it. I listen to it at night when I take the dog for her walk, and I always hear things that I missed when I read it. If I only took a pencil with me I could write them down before I forgot them…
If I were you I’d buy the book – it’s pretty cheap now; and get the CDs from the library or on eBay.
Good luck.

Well, I'll get the book for my birthday, but maybe I'll ask for both! I am in the car so much, and although I am no where near getting tired of the soundtrack, I love listening to books in my car.
I have Lord of the Rings in MP3 format if you want that! each book is on one Mp3 cd, in total there would be 42 disks if not in MP3. I bought copies of the cd's on ebay. I'm sure it was an illegal purchase, but moving the cd's to mp3 myself would be too hard to do.
If you like Lord of the Rings, let me know.

Finally got the book, for my birthday, how exciting. It isn't really what I thought it would be so far... It's still cool. I can't wait until the action really picks up. But I'm sure I'll have questions as I go along!

Yeah, and, if I remember correctly, a few of them are going to be left unanswered.

i started reading it but stopped after awhile
i suck at consistency!!!!
i should try picking it back up
but the description of fiyero fit derrick williams way better then the other fiyero i saw on broadway
call me strange but i think its cause hes BLACK or "dark skinned"
Beautifully Tragic
Oct 4 2005, 10:41 PM
Yes! I totally agree! It kinda bugs me when I see pictures of these pretty white boys playing Fiyero. He's supposed to be dark skinned! Oh well.

Oct 4 2005, 10:42 PM

hence WIcked the musical would not be the same

Oct 4 2005, 10:46 PM
Whoa whoa whoa. Back up there. You calling the book Fiyero ugly? What are you talking about? Do you really mean you don't find those blue diamonds and dark skin and all of that sexy? He's sounds gorgeous!

Oct 4 2005, 10:47 PM
from what i remember [i read it a while ago and never finished]
was him having like weird scales or bumps on his body..
am i wrong?
Beautifully Tragic
Oct 4 2005, 10:52 PM
No wierd bumps. No scales. Just blue diamonds.
"A new student, oddly dressed in suede leggings and a white cotton shirt, with a pattern of blue diamonds tattooed on the dark skin of his face and hands."

Ok, real quick question for someone who has the book handy:
What is the name of the professor who tooks over after Dr. Dillamond?
I cannot for the life of me remember and I just lent out my book the other day (bad timing, I know) so I was really hoping someone here would know the answer.

Dr. Nikidik. I believe he was the boys' biology professor and the girls just went to the boys' biology lessons.

Oct 6 2005, 12:02 AM
Well... Kinda. He's mentioned. I really think people ought to read the Oz books. There are so many characters in there from Wicked! I was so surprised! It's awesome!

Shouldn't that be there's many characters from the Oz books in wicked?

lol
I'm all but to the end of my first read! I just love the way that as soon as I start reading I get sucked into a different world almost instantly. Anyway, my current copy is from the library, but have just ordered my own, so I will no doubt read it many more times in the future.
Plus, I am now very tempted to read the Oz books and compare Baum's characterisations with Maguire's!
Beautifully Tragic
Oct 9 2005, 12:31 AM
Oops, that what I meant to say. But I know what you mean about comparing and being sucked in and such. I'm addicted. I just can't get enough. I just finished the second book, The Marvelous Land of Oz the other day and can't wait until I can can get to the library again to get Ozma of Oz.

Hopefully I will have more luck trying to get the Oz books than Gregory Maguire books! stupid British libraries! having said that, I am VERY VERY THANKFUL AND GRATEFUL that my local library had the latest edition of Wicked, you know the Broadway tie-in one, with the production photos in the middle. I'm guessing they got that imported or something. But God bless them! lol

Ok, new question. Does the book ever say anything about Dorothy's age? I'm not exactly looking for a number, although if there is one that's even better. I'm more of looking for her age in relationship to Elphie's. Cause I'm trying to make sense of Ozma. In the beginning of Wicked Elphie and Ozma are about the same age, right? Well, in the Oz books, when Ozma returns she is about Dorothy's age. But isn't Dorothy about the age of Liir? Ok, never mind, I just answered my own question. I was hoping Dorothy would be about Dorothy's age so everything would work out nicely but it's not. So I've found a second issue with Wicked. Argh!

I have read Wicked once and I am still reading SOAW, that one is taking me a long time because I am so busy with school, hopefully I will finish it tomorrow! Then I am reading Wicked again. The first time I read wicked I was depressed for a week! I actually cried at the end. Anywho, I can't wait to see what I missed the second time around.

Once, before I saw the show, and I liked the show much more. The book is interesting, but I liked the musical story more. But hey, I'm thankful for the book becuase without that we probably wouldn't have the musical...Thanks Gregory Maguire:D
Oh yeah, I've also read SOAW...
And speaking of the diamonds, I believe that in the musical they once had Fiyero (Norbert) with a blue tatoo thing on the side of his face, maybe in San Fran. Correct me if I'm wrong, I thought I remembered seeing that in picture...

I love it but it wasn't like i thought it would be!!! I love Gregorys books anyway and i love the way he writes.
I just was quite weirded out about the darkness of the book.
But anyway yeah im on to my second time.

I have SoaW on my table waiting to be read, so I need to read that first before attempting Wicked again!!!
Eleven times and counting. I have three copies of the book: One that's my "personal" copy- covered in masking tape because it's so battered, sticky notes/tabs for the notes I keep taking, various bookmarks, and doodles/analysis notes in the margins.
The second is my nice copy. It's the one I don't really take out.
Third is my loaner.

What do I write? Oh, the usual...questions, character depth notes, grocery lists, etc...
