I have a question? Was Glinda ever good at spells? You saw how she was in Popular...Did Morrible help her along? Or was she like the Wizard who never really did anything real, you know?

In the book she wasn't half-bad, but I get the idea in the musical that she is just mediocre, and Morrible makes it look like more. (In the San Fran tryout, there was a scene where she tried to make some flowers grow...I've only heard audio, does anyone know if she actually does this?)
Glinda in the original Oz book didn't do much but in the later books she was a great sorceress, one of the most powerful in Oz.
I haven't heard audio of San Francisco but from what I read about she tried to make the flowers grow and couldn't and started beating them with her wand.

I have the workshop audio, but I don't remember her trying to make flowers.

I think you are thinking of San Francisco in the scene with the house out in the cornfield. Elphaba says "Well aren't you going to transform them into bigger flowers?!"

No, the workshop pre-dates San Fran.

she's a sorceress in the Oz books, not a witch. And she is pretty powerful.

I like the musical version of her simply for the humor. I'm a sucker for comedy!

It just added so much more depth to the plot. I mean it gave the main characters more of a difference.

I think that she could maybe do something SMALL. However, after the show ends, I think she studied and tried harder and got powerfull...er.

She tried to make some flowers grow in Doctor Dillamond's funeral, but it didn't work. In San Francisco, Galinda didn't try to turn Elphaba's frock into a ballgown during "Popular," but when the show went to Broadway, they took out the part with the flowers (actually, they took out that whole scene altogether) and added it into "Popular."
Elphaba later mocks Glinda for it after Nessa's death.
