If you've ever heard an earlier reading (Making Good, etc) of Wicked, what parts aren't in the final version that you miss?

In Popular, I miss the early reference to Elphaba and Nessa's shoes:


And in No Good Deed, I miss the "Unlimited" verse. I can understand not wanting to overuse the unlimited theme, but I think it was powerful:


I also miss, more so than anything else, No One Mourns the Wicked playing in the background in the birth scene. I thought that tied it in beautifully.

Sometimes I miss Making Good, but TWAI is very good two, I can't pick a favourite between the two.

I also miss the cut verse, it is powerful and it sounds awesome on the acoustic performance I have.

I like the cut verse from NGD, but I can agree with the not wanting to overuse the "unlimited" theme lol!

i really love making good. i wish it was kept for broadway. i feel bad for a lot of people in the workshops bc most of their work didnt go to broadway and it seems like they wasted their time with it.

I love Making Good and TWAI. So I don't really "miss" it, because it was replaced by something just as good, but it was a great song. Stephanie might record it for her CD :mrgreen:

I REALLY REALLY miss Making Good. But, The Wizard and I is better for the show, I think.

i think making good would have been better for the show. it just goes more. the wizard and i always repeats itself a bit.

I don't know....The earlier versions of the show were less pop-ish than the show is now. More operatic and sung-through. I think that for the moment that WAI takes place, its perfect.

Speaking of Nessa... I transcribed the SF WWoTE for everyone.

I actually think I like this version more. It shows how needy Nessa is and how controlling she is aswell. She's always asking "what" cause she likes to know everything that's going on. She's aslo very demanding when she's calling for Boq. It shows her attachment aswell as resentment to her sister. HOWEVER: I LOVE LOVE LOVE the line of "Just the girl in the mirror, just her and me: The Wicked Witch of the East!" But the line about Boq holding her was sweet. I'm rambling. here ya go:

Elphie: Where's father?
Nessa: You haven't heard? Father's dead! After he learned what you'd done? How you disgraced us! He died of shame!
E: What?
N: Yes. Poor Man. Embarrassed to death.
E: So it's you they're talking about.
N: What do you mean?
E: All these rumors about some Wicked Witch ruling Munchkinland. I just assumed it was another lie about me.
N: Eveything isn't about you, Elphaba!
E: So it's true you've been stripping the Munchkins of their rights?
N: They didn't have that many to begin with!
E: Nessa?!?!?
N: Well I had to do something to keep Boq here with me so I passed a few laws...
E: Nessa, I shouldv'e never left you alone.
N: No, Elphaba, you shouldn't have! Where have you been
E: To the most Ozforsaking place you can imagine.

I love the part in "Defying Gravity" where Glinda adds onto the "I Hope Your Happy".

I think it's:

They understand as I grew too, I hope you find it.

I LOVE that part too. That has to be my fave cut line.

I like the other verse of As Long as You're Mine. I don't really miss it as I like the current one just as much, but it's still sweet and it seems so much more urgent. It replaces "Maybe I'm brainless..."

And in INTG, when Elphaba says that Fiyero's bleeding, she presses a hanky to his face instead of her hand. She drops it when he leaves and picks it up as the song begins. I don't know, it's just a little detail, but it's sweet and I like it.

does anyone have an audio 4 the NGD workshop? I saw the others..(or is that a no-no you-know-what?) and the other song in replace of TWaI? Making Good?

Me too! I just love Elphaba & Glinda's friendship. (My favorite part of the show is when they sing the chorus of DG together. I cry like a baby!)

My favorite cut line from WICKED has to be the "unlimited" theme that was initially in NGD. I thought Making Good was an excellent song as well; however, I thought TWAI was the better choice in terms of context.

I'm glad they scrapped "Making Good." It's not a bad song, but "The Wizard and I" fits in much better. I wish they had kept in the cut lyrics to "No Good Deed."

I'm also glad that they got "Dancing Though Life." The other song makes little sence. But that's just me.

Ooh, I do like the cut bit of DG and ALAYM, too.

I got all my SF and workshop stuff on CDs from my uncle, who got them off of e-bay.

Rose, if you want any SF stuff, I would suggest applying to the MTF. And we had an auction for the workshop a long time ago, maybe we could have another one...

I actually the early lines that were cut during Wicked Witch of the east. I mean unless you pay really close attention to the lyrics you probably need the fact that Nessarose became the Wicked Witch of the East spelled out (no pun intended! lol) for you a little more clearly. And it always bothered me that Elphaba is so concerned about Animals that she has no room for concern over all the bad things that have happened to the Munchkins because of her sister.

Does anybody know the full cast on these early readings?

The extra verse in NGD goes after "One more disaster I can add to my generous supply" ("supply" is quieter and fades out, followed by the "unlimited" music). Then it resumes as usual with the first "No good deed goes unpunished."

I got the workshop from the MTF, but I don't know how legal it is. So please keep asking for anything from it to the MTF or PMs, unless I am wrong and it is a legal recording.
