Mattel has done two sets of Barbies before, but as there's always new collectors and many may have missed out the first couple of times for whatever reason.............Here's another set for early 2007 and for the first time............there's a Wicked Witch of the West and in the tradition of Wicked............she looks really beautiful!!!!!!!!

I'm an Oz collector, but I am not too interested in the collectable dolls so far - although a lot of the serious buyers are male. The only one I have is the porcelain Scarecrow figure, a Christmas gift from my Aunt. I will say, though, that this is an impressive release. I remember the first time that Oz fans bought through the Barbie releases. They're all over the place on eBay.

Glinda and Dorothy look really nice, but I believe the Witch of the West is just too pretty. In the MGM movie, bad witches are ugly. Forgive me, Margaret Hamilton fans (she's great), but she was not beautiful in that Witch makeup. The porcelain doll of her was a better version. However, the craftsmanship on all of these are incredible.

I'm not a collector, but wow... Barbie sure has changed over the years, facial and figure-wise. And, I absolutely adore the Wizard of Oz related collectables!!!
wicked_jennie
Aww, those are so cute!!! Thanks for posting this.

With Wicked's actual popularity, I would not be surprised if they actually release ones geared towards the musical. It may not be released by Barbie or whatnot, but I'd expect to see some serious Wicked-themed collectables before too much longer.
Shar_rocks
My 4 year old sister was looking over my shoulder and just went crazy haha we both want one!!
Yeroismyhero
I also wouldn't be surprised if Wicked dolls were released in the near future.
Dram_edy00
ooohh...the Witch one looks so Elphie-ish!! And they have a scarecrow too hahaha *knows what she wants for my Christmas/b-day hahha!*

I already have all these dolls from several years ago. They haven't changed them.
Rainbowgirl
I've been an Oz collector since 1992 and dolls are my forte. The only Wicked Witch doll Mattel has ever done was a porcelain one in or around 2000. There has never been a Wicked Witch in the Barbie sets.

I WISH someone would do some Wicked dolls, but that's up to Universal since they are the copyright holders. I wish they'd allow some nice merchandise to be produced. They'd make a killing.

These dolls are due to be released in Feb so I know what I'm getting for my birthday! Pricing I'm not sure about, but I would say in the $20 to $25 range since they are part of the playline. Maybe a bit cheaper at places like WalMart and Target. The last set of Barbies was around $20 but that was in 2000. Inflation you know!
Elphaba_42
I'm so getting every Wizard of Oz character.

While I've added something Ozzy to my room every year since before I could remember, I've only been an actual collector for a little while. Currently, I really love to track down different publishings of the first book, The [Wonderful] Wizard of Oz. I'll never say no to Goodwill versions of the others, but the first is my favourite to find.

I have recently become interested in knick-knacks and whatnot. I have calenders, tin signs, an Emerald City clock, pictures, a bobble-head (gift), etc. Then, they shut down the store where I purchased a lot of these. Now I'm limited until either they reopen the store elsewhere, or until I am willing to really become serious about shopping on-line.

I would love to see collectables of Wicked, book or musical. It's Oz, I'll collect it. Music boxes and snowglobes seem like obvious choices, like the Oz ones you see at the local Hallmark. Once the musical producers realize there is money to be made from this, I suspect they'll release the copyright in order to produce high quality gifts.

That adds on to my list of wants, along with waiting for the creators of Dorothy to make figurines at some point.

An Emerald City Clock?!? Haha! I need to find a picture of this! HAHA! The dolls look nice.
GEoff
Wow they actually look alot better than the ones released before, the last ones they made the quality in the glinda was really sad looking, they are pretty close to looking like them in this line! Im impressed!

PS i think they should make an elphaba in the act 2 dress and a glinda in the bubble dress someday!
Emeraude
 I have got to get one of those Elphaba dolls for Christmas or my birthday! I collect dolls (okay, all kinds of Russian dolls, not just the egg ones) But the have Wizard of Oz in Russia, right? It's a bit of a stretch, but...My friends are probably going to hear about it and get me one as a gag gift.

The ruby slippers and Dorothy's dress are the only major things that irk me. More sparkle, please!

So when do they come out?

It has a pendulum. It's very nice, and it is still running on the first battery I put in it months and months ago:

But the have Wizard of Oz in Russia, right?

In a way, but the Russians' Magic Land is a completely separate world from America's Land of Oz.

i like it. it's really pretty
the_green_girl510
Cool!!!!
elphabafanatic15
sorry to bump this....but i dont see a witch barbie anywhere...it says shes not available and the one that WAS available like a year ago isnt very pretty. hahah

Well if someone could find me the link that would be pretty sweet.
Rainbowgirl
The Wicked Witch Barbie isn't available yet. I first heard February but now I keep hearing December...........all in good time, my pretty, all in good time..... Sorry couldn't resist. I think she's going to be very hard to find though. The first post in this thread should have a link to the photos of the new Oz lineup.
the_green_girl510
 the link doesn't work.
Rainbowgirl
I keep getting the server is busy so I'm sure they are working on it BUT here's a link to a doll site that is carrying the dolls.

the_green_girl510
oh thanx for the new link!!! i love the dolls!
GEoff
they are more expensive than i thought they would be for the line they are in, i figured they would be around 20.00
Nick Chopper
The price does not surprise me. I've been to antique malls a lot in the past couple of months, and Wizard of Oz dolls (new or older) are worth a lot of money. If anyone is interested in those, I would recommend purchasing them at this price. Some of the first generations still go for thirty dollars on eBay.
Eleka.Nahmen
I must say the Wicked Witch of the West doll looks pretty. My grandmother has mentioned that she is going to preorder a Dorthy doll that she got for my little cousin. I want to check it out before she gives it to her.
elphabafanatic15
thanks so much for the link!! and she really does look pretty!!

I WANT HER! hahah
Emeraude
I wonder if she's green all over or not...I'm not quite convinced that they'd make a whole new set of Barbie parts for one doll.

My grandma might get me one if she sees them, but she'll probably get me Dorothy or Glinda. But I'll give my friend the money for the Wicked Witch if I don't get her for Christmas (Which I probably won't). Hmmm...maybe I'll get some sort of collection inadvertently...
Rainbowgirl
I'll bet the Wicked Witch will be green all over. Green dolls are hot right now, just ask Robert Tonner. His Wicked Witch dolls have been wildly successful. Mattel usually does a great job on their dolls and don't do things halfway. In the event, she isn't green all over Mattel will have to deal with many, many ticked off witch people and I don't think they want that.

They might be around $20 depending on where you go. Retailers like WalMart or Target may have them for that price. At this point, I really don't know who will be carrying them or what pricing will be. The larger retailer chains are able to order MASS quantities of Barbies and they get them at a lower price for ordering so many and then we can pick them up cheaper. The smaller doll shops have to charge more because they can't afford to order a few hundred Barbies at a time. And these dolls play actual dialog from the Wizard of Oz film and I'm sure Mattel had to pay a pretty penny for the licensing for that so that may affect price also. If you're out and you see them, I'd grab them if you can. Dorothy and the Munchkins are the only ones that stores can order individually. The three guys all come together and the two witches come together so there won't be as many of those as Barbie and the Munchkins. I predict the Wicked Witch will be the hardest to find...because A.) She almost always is B.) She's been surging in popularity for the past 10 years now and Wicked has made her even more popular C.) People have been waiting a loooooooooooong time for a genuine Wicked Witch Barbie Even collectors that decide not to get the other dolls are going to go after her. D.) She's a cross collectible. That means more than just Oz people will want her. The Oz people will want her, the Wicked people will want her, movie collectors will want her, Witch collectors will want her, Halloween collectors will want her, then there's the people that are browsing down the doll aisles and happen to be there at the right time and say 'oh she's pretty', then they want her. This little green gal is going to be mega POP-U-LAR. A friend who has these dolls on order has announced a December release for these. I'd start looking at the end of November. I can try to keep everyone posted as best I can. *whew*

PS I think Universal should go to Mattel and have Wicked Barbies made to sell in the Ozdust Boutique. Mattel makes exclusives all the time. *sigh*

Yeah, my mom got me some collectable Wizard of Oz dolls for Christmas last year on eBay.
gncurrier
arg!!! I want one!!!!!!
elphabafanatic15
My mom pre-orderd Dorothy, Glinda, and Elphaba for me for Christmas! WOOT!

I love Christmas because I wouldve never gotten these had it been a diff. time of the year!

WOOT!
Ross
that is pretty dang awesome!!
Rainbowgirl
oooooooooooooooooooh I hope you're not too disappointed. Well, I guess it can still be a Christmas present, it'll just be late. The dolls were rumored to possibly be out in December but Mattel announced in November that they'd be out February instead. Some people like to have stuff under the tree, but as for me, I really don't care as long as I know I'm getting it!
krenthead
Mattel Makes beautiful speical edition dolls. I have the 1995 happy Holidays Baribe and I feel very blessed to have a rare thing.

My mom has yet to let me tough the doll in 11 years....lol
madgeorge
I'm putting this whole Wizard of Oz line on my Christmas list, specifically the witches and Dorothy. I don't care one way or another if it's there for Christmas, but I WANT. LOL.
Wicked Witch of the West
The link isn't working...
Rainbowgirl
There's a different link on page two.
elphabafanatic15
I know its coming out in February....I cant wait!!!

Im so ognna break out my soundtrack and play with them...collectors edition or not! I love it!

Thank heavens for these "Wicked" barbies! (no pun intended :ha: )
Rainbowgirl
I don't know yet if this is 100% true. I can't get out of the house yet, but someone on one of the Oz message boards claims the new Wizard of Oz Barbies are out at Walmart priced at $24.88 each. She also says there's a Winkie Guard and a flying monkey which I'd never seen mentioned from Mattel before. So, again, I really don't know, but if anyone finds themselves out and about today and sees anything please post.
Rainbowgirl
Here's the Wicked Witch.......

Rainbowgirl
Well, it seems they don't talk like they were originally supposed to and they have added a Winkie and Flying Monkey to the line as well. Eep.

I got my Wicked Witch last night. She's so great. VERY Elphaba. My boyfriend says she's definately more Wicked than Wizard of Oz. I love her so much already.
