Apparently Eden had them draw up a special contract for her because she really wants to play Evita in London. So if she gets the part then she will be leaving in the spring. This probably means Saycon would then take over the role of Elphaba. :?

wow. i liked eden...i'm kind of disapointed in her now.

No offense, but if it was on Myspace it's probably not true. And even if it is, Eden may not get the part. Personally I think it's just the wheels of the Wicked rumor mill rolling along as usual; earlier the rumor was that Idina wanted to be cast as Evita, which She Herself debunked, so there's no saying this situation is any different.

Well I know for a fact that she just auditioned for something else a few weeks ago and it could very well be Evita. It's a dream role of hers, so why not workout her contract to allow her to play the role if she gets it. I'm sure that Wicked would take her back at some point if she wanted to play Elphaba again. And if she doesnt get Evita then there is nothing to worry about because she has work with Wicked. She's just covering her own butt, so she has work either way.

Someone on another board that I post on said that Eden herself comfirmed this.

I love Eden as Elphie, but if she gets the chance to play one of her dream roles....then I say she should go for it. They knew at Wicked that she may be leaving in a few months. So I'm sure they would take her back if she had the desire to play Elphaba after Evita....IF she gets Evita.

the only thing i think you would be wrong about is that they probably wouldent take her back a 3rd time. She isnt that insperable. Ya know. Im not directing this toward you, but she left to be in Brooklyn and came back, if she leaves and asks to come back again, the producers will most likley laugh. Its almost like shes jerkin wicked around in that sense and its not right. They arent going to hold out a part because she wants to just jump back on in.

I understand what you are saying, and I'm not saying they that they will neccessarily take her back. But its not like I'm saying they would kick someone else out of the part to give it to her either. Maybe if someones contract expires and she was interested in going back, then she possibly could. Did she ask to join the show again? Or did they ask her?

She was also attached to Brooklyn when she started Wicked the first time and they knew she would be leaving. Its not like she is just springing this on them at the last minute. She's gone into it letting them know her plans and she may not be with it for a long time. Though the first time she was just a Standby, all they had to do was bump Kristy Cates up from understudy to standby and move someone to understudy. Its not like she's really putting anyone in a predicament. If she would leave the show for Evita they would more than likely bump Saycon up to play Elphie full-time and Brandi would probably become the new standby. But you never know. They very well may or may not take her back. But she is building her name and is one of the hottest new talents on Broadway right now. We cant say for sure if they would give her another chance.

i'm not sure if saycon will take over...i've heard rumors that she was thinking of leaving soon...i think it would be awesome to have an african american star as elphie though....i would love it to be brandi cuz i luv her singing but i don't think she has enough experience...

and yea...i don't think eden would be able to come back again. people might think that she's just keeping wicked as a back up plan in case she can' get a part she wanted in another play and that's not exactly admirable...but i luv eden so good luck to w/e she chooses!

I heard that Saycon extended her contract. I had heard she was going to do something with The Color Purple, but for some reason she decided to stay with Wicked. Maybe she is planning on getting the role full time if Eden leaves or once Edens contract expires in a year.

I'd... er... I'd rather see her than Saycon or Brandi. Understand that I like both of those girls and that I wouldn't tear up my tickets and storm out of the Gershwin if I read the little slip that said, "in for this performance..." etc. However, I've gotten my hopes up to see Eden and I'll be darned if I won't see her come July!

I wish her luck, though--if she wants it, she deserves it. But I don't think British Equity would relish having an American and relatively unknown actress play such a coveted role. Idina had more of a chance if she had indeed wanted the role, but with Eden it's more wishful thinking... and I'm wishin' she'll stay green, for what it's worth.

haaha. your right. and i dont know where i heard this, or if i hear it at all but, DOES saycon even WANT to take over the part. I mean shows dont religiously give lead roles to the stanbys or understudys or anything in that sequence. Let us not forget this is only the third big cast turn over. USUALLY Standbys and understudys arent given the role like that. Shoshana was ana amazing standby who covered Idina in alot of tough spots and showed it. Not to say that saycon isnt, but she really hasent gone on all that much. Sho and Megan just i dont know how to elaborate it but Deserved the part. And thats not to be offensive to the other CM's but they just did so there. lol

im just trying to push the point that Standbys dont always become leads. lets not forget why they were cast as the standby in the first place *harsh* jk jk

Saycon does go on a lot! Brandi was only gone on like 2 or 3 times...Sho isn't there 100% of the time. Saycon is excellent. She was my first Elphaba!

I wouldn't believe any of it. There was a rumor where people said that Kristin told them she'd come back for Idina's last performance. Someone then asked her at the stage door, and she said no. And I haven't seen Eden yet as Elphaba, but I love her voice (saw her in Brooklyn twice). But, Saycon is fantastic, you will love her if she takes over. Much better than Sho (both vocally and acting). Plus, as others have pointed out, she's always left Wicked when the producers expected her to. They've just wanted her so much, they'll keep her in as much as possible. Remember that they tried to get her to replace Idina, hoping that Brooklyn would close before 1/9. Then they put in Shoshana Bean.

This is just something I heard. I have no clue if there is any truth behind it or not, but I heard that they offered Saycon a contract first and she turned it down because she was planning on leaving, so the contract went to Eden. But now Saycon has decided to stay and maybe she is next in line when Eden is out. It seems so far that everyone that has been a standby has moved on to play the role full time. Maybe not right away, but they have still moved on to the role.

OK...so mixed feelings here. I'm flying to Boston to see the tour cast again in April, but planned to see Eden on Bway right after! I hope she does get cast in Evita if that's what she really wants, but I want to see her too!!!

my big question is why you would pick Evita over WICKED? Evita is old and is kind of chugging along as best as it can. WICKED is EXTREMELY popular and sells out nearly every performance. i think i would go for WICKED if i were here.

Evita is a dream role for her. Shes done Wicked and she loves it. But if Evita were your dream role wouldnt you want to do it too, even if you are the star of Wicked?

i noticed how some one mentioned eden flopping around parts and stuff. i think that its just for her best intentions.. she was standby for elphaba before brklyn came along... god she had a HUGE role in that.. i would take that, as opposed to sitting in a dressing room for 3 hours each day waiting to go on.. thats how i would perceive it.. and i feel like eden has definitely got her share of elphaba-ness [tour, standby on broadway].. if its her dream, then i totally support her. she's an enormously talented singer who SHOULD strive.. and i doubt she'll come back to wicked if she goes on with Evita.. from there on, most people just need to get away from wicked.. you dont want to get too attached to that musical.. like michelle staying in there for that long, im totally amazed..

Eden was in Brooklyn before Wicked. They planned on putting her in when it came to Broadway. I can't imagine the Wicked producers didn't know. And they have promoted a lot of understudies, but not all (Laura Bell Bundy for one). There are lots of things that happen. I even heard a rumor that Sho was fired for being hard to work with. It's always best to just go by official word and to enjoy what's there. It's almost always great (especially with Saycon, lol).

Eh. I'm not a big fan of Edens, so I won't necessarily be happy if she stays but it won't kill me. and same as if she goes. lol.

For the period(s) of time I was with wicked, the only thing I thought was silly on behalf on BTC was that they always seemed like the performers had them by the *you know whats* whatever they wanted they got. They could leave and come back and leave and come back....but it dosent matter what a show electrician thinks. :drink: lol

Why did they recruit people from the tour for Broadway? Did it cause them to leave prematurely from the tour or was it planned all along?

I say go for Eden! Evita, while jaded, is still a FANTASTIC female role (and I will be the first Male to play her, btw) and is equally as good as Elphaba. And the idea that it's chugging along, I'm just gonna say two words: Sweeny Todd. Either way, she's good, but Jenna Leigh Green is my choice of replacements.

i hope Saycon DOES take over. Im not dissing Eden or anything, cuz i cant wait to see her but i think Saycon has shown more devotion to Wicked and i think she should have taken over instead of Eden right now. So if Eden does leave early to do Evita i hope the role goes to Saycon, and after her to Brandi. Both of these women are ENOURMOUSLY talented and i would love to see a full video of Brandi soon if i cannot see her live and if she does not eventually land the role permanently.

Last I talked to Saycon, before news of Eden leaving got out, she had expressed intense interest to me of doing other things, so my guess is, unless something different makes her change her mind, she will be gone when her contract expires.

Eden told me she is NOT doing "Evita," but she is leaving in October.

And Saycon is NOT doing anything with "The Color Purple," nor has she ever been. She auditioned to reprise her role as Nettie when they were casting the Broadway production and was told then that they weren't, in her words, "quite feeling her." So these rumors of her going back to it are completely false.

I don't want her to leave I saw her in San Fran. and she was so good. I want to see her on Broadway and I'm going probably in August.

I hope that Eden does well at her audition and gets all of her dreams to come true, but I just spent two hundred and fifty bucks on Wicked tickets in July with the pretty solid mindset of doing it to see Eden .. so I guess I sort of have a split mindset about it.

Don't get me wrong, I adore Saycon and Brandi, but I've just been wanting desperately to see Eden as Elphie since I saw her Disneyland performances, and that looks to be my chance.
