When Caissie was with us,all the new LA pics were posted on there in there full large glory. As you can see, the new LA ensemble pic has already been posted and they might update the Erin pic! I'm pretty sure a large Teal pic will be there!

On that LA link I noticed all the photos have the same photographer, even though Erins pic is from Chicago. Is this Joan Marcus character like the "official wicked photographer"? Next to being in the wicked orchestra, that would preetty much be my dream job lol

i think it's because every shot joan puts out for wicked it pretty much the same compostion of the previous cast. She doesn't seem to mix up her photogrpahy that much.

yeah. and i just think its so AMAZINGLY CHEAP how they tend to photoshop pics. honestly. if you can spend over 14 million for just one production, cant you spend/want to spend money of the prodution! hahahahah

Not trying to be rude, but did any of you ever stop to think that maybe Joan takes hundreds of pictures of each cast, and then the people in charge at "Wicked" decide which pics to use on the site? I highly doubt she has final say which pictures are used for promotion. She just takes them. Don't shoot the messenger, or in this case would it be photographer?

so its the producers who do the photoshopping?

Also, Joan Marcus is one of the busiest photographers on Broadway. When she has a bunch of other shows (and THEIR respective replacement casts) to worry about, she can't be on top of Wicked's ever-changing casts and productions 24/7.

Just my 2 cents I love the majority of Joan's pictures, the only time I think she fell short was with the Sho/Meg set which I really didn't care for.

oh. i really liked it when she did all those sho/meg pics. like that shiz photo of sho on the bench with the book and pen. but w/e i like joan marcus, maybe who chose the photos i dont like. yeah that's it. she takes great photos! and even if i didnt, its not gonna change, right? so my point of view doesnt really matter. :]

I do like that picture, but that was released back when she was still with Jennifer. I didn't like any of the set that was released of her run with Megan.

Except the Popular picture.

Yes, I should be fair. Ms. Marcus, I'm sure, takes hundreds and hundreds of pictures per cast. I am not sure who is in charge of putting the photos up on their respective websites, but whoever that person is needs to be fired immediately. They put up very few pictures and the ones that they DO choose tend to be rather terrible. I'm sure Joan's great, but we really don't see her best work. She did great for the OBC and for the Eden/Kate cast on Broadway, but for all of the other casts the pictures that have been release have been rather sh*tty. However, I do prefer the London photographer, he's way more gutsy and artistic, I think.

From a photographer's POV, I really hate to see everyone blame Joan Marcus for something that's not her fault. Joan Marcus goes into the show and shoots CF cards filled with pictures. When she edits them, she picks the ones that are exposed right and are flattering poses for the actors (meaning their eyes are open and such) and sends them to the producers. Once she sends them out, they're out of her hands.

So don't blame Joan Marcus, because it's not her fault.

Also, the reason Tristam Kenton is so "gutsy and artistic" is because the photo shoots in London are different from that in the US. In the US, it's usually a put-in or final dress rehearsal whereas in London, they actually do poses on stage in addition to the regular "action shots." So he has more freedom to take different angles and such.

I'm confused by this. Some of the US production shots are definitely posed e.g. Shoshana's & Eden's DG pics. For that matter, the pic of Carmen posted higher up the page is surely posed? I can't think of any point in the show where Elphaba stands still with her hands in that position.

Some, but not nearly as many as the London photos. Mostly it's just the promo shots used for autographs, and not the production shots.

As for Carmen's, I could easily see that being the scene in the wizard's chamber when he surprises her with "I knew you'd be back"

I thought all pictures were more or less staged, otherwise surely the light, position and numerous other features would be a huge issue, you can't take photos of something moving every 5 seconds, surely??

Does Joan have a website or some way of contacting her. I have never been able to find anything like that on her via the net. It would be helpful to be able to view her work or ask about HQ's since the official website officially sucks when it comes to their new galleries. Wish they'd go back to directories where you could dl HQ's. This stamp size is ridiculous.

As a professional photographer I'm sure Joan is using a professional quality camera which can take a picture of something in motion with little to no distotion, depending on the shutter speed.

Even most readily available digital cameras can take pictures of objects in motion without the blur of slower cameras.

Joan Marcus uses a digital SLR camera, which can usually fire a series of shots within a minute. They're not your regular point-and-shoot cameras and they come with interchangeable lenses. I have a Nikon D70, which is an entry-level DSLR, which is how I get my curtain call pictures.

Also don't forget at the end of the day there not much you can do with show photos, of course they're gonna be similar as its the same show. And I would probably bet the Producers want the photos to be similar, as they are almost marketing a brand, they want people to see the show.
