Honestly, who I saw, just off of first glance, was Lindsay Northen.

I don't see it as much now, heh. But they do look a tad similar. A tad. Lindsay has a prettier smile.

Was the American wand always that way? I think I remember back in '05 or '06 seeing Kendra with a wand during the catfight scene, and it kind of...drooped. Like it was made of streamers, if that makes any sense.
Does anyone else remember a different wand at any time or am I just crazy?

The catfight wand is like, springs on a stick, because the actual wand is too expensive to twirl and toss.

There are a lot of companies now that use the original wand and there isn't a catfight wand. So far every time I've seen it on tour and in Chicago there was only one wand.

Don't know when you saw the tour and Chicago productions, but I know that Kate, Stacie in Chicago used the cheap wand in the Catfight scene, as did Kendra, Megan, and Christina on tour, and Kristin, Jennifer, and Megan on Broadway. I believe they do use the same wand throughout the show now, or at least have a better substitute now, but that is not the way it always was.

The expensive wand is used for NOMTW, but currently (in the US) the catfight wand looks very similar to the expensive one but it's thinner and flatter, but visually looks very similar. I think the wands outside the US looks very ugly and cheap.

Interesting you think that. I feel the opposite myself. I thought the dresses worn by Helen Dallimore and Lucy Scherer had more weight to them and were more victorian looking than the US ones. They appear more dignified somehow. I think, perhaps, the US Elphaba act 2 dresses are better. I think the frills are a little more detailed. I suppose it really depends which actress plays the part as each is made especially for them. Using the Melbourne production for example; I find Jemma Rix's act 2 dress to be a lot better than Patrice Tipoki and Amanda Harrison's. I thought Carmen Cusack's had less detail than either Jemma, Patrice or Amanda's. I've realised that Melbourne seems to have had a hell of a lot of witches :S

I noticed that about Carmen's - it seemed like such a simplified interpretation of the design, sort of reduced to just tiers of different fabrics without as much of the beautiful abstract pieces sewn into it. Ah well.

I've always thought that the London design of the wand was horribly cheap and shoddy looking. Same with the Crown and Necklace. They basically look like someone had scraps of sheet metal and stuck them on the end of a stick with some glitter. I also thought their bubble dresses looked terrible, though the Stuttgart ones seem to have improved greatly on the London dress design.

In Chicago Erin and all the other Glindas that I have seen used the one like the non-American production wand in the Catfight scene only. The Glindas I have seen used the American one in NOMTW and in the Finale.

Are the US/Non-US bubble dresses majorly different? I've been flicking through the US and German photos on the last couple of pages to compare them, but honestly couldn't see any huge differences. Meh...maybe I'm just tired...
edit: just looking again - there are differences between the necklaces/crowns. I'd never noticed that before!

The biggest variance is probably the bodice. The US dress has an off the shoulder neckline, with a soft curved neckline that continues up into the Juliet-style sleeve; which is a pale blue. The lower edge/waistline of the bodice is a softer curve, with the "petals" in the skirt cascading down and creating a more flowing silhouette and the illusion that the skirt and bodice are one continuous garment. The petals used in the US skirt are made from a netting-fabric layered over a more iridescent fabric, which has more of a flow to it - the way they drape creates really dramatic folds. The petals, while larger, are gathered at the top, such that they are longer but with more of a similar width - the petals seem to be more graduated. Consequently there's a lot of them. The sequins are pearlescent, and more varied in colour to add a dimension to the sparkle; almost like a bubble.
The London dress, on the other hand, has a different bodice. It has more of the appearance of being a separate corset to the skirt. It has a sweetheart (heart-shaped) neckline, with darker blue sequinning running along the neckline. The sleeves don't have the same continued look as in the US dress - they seem to be more separate, and might even be a different colour to the corset, but I can't tell. The waistline is sharply pointed, adding a stronger angle through the waist - the skirt subsequently has the petals flaring out to the side. The skirt is much more 'poofier' - i think it's because the bodice lends itself to more of a typical, belled-out skirt. The petals seem to be of a fabric that's much stiffer and with more body to them, and consequently the skirt itself has more body - more poofier, like I said. The petals aren't gathered at the top like the US dresses, and get more obviously bigger. The sequinning seems to be more of a flatter colour on the bodice, and more translucent on the skirt. Overall, the silhouette of the dress is more angular, and more faithful to the traditional style of that sort of dress. I think it has more "presence", and a more grounded look compared to the US dress which looks so airy and bubble-like and soft.

I prefer Kristin's and Jennifer's bubble dress. All the new ones look tacky and cheap by comparison. In general though I prefer the US/Melbourne dresses, think the London one is just plain bad, nut love the Stuttgart one, which seems to have greatly improved on the London design. It looks much less like plastic, and is the only new dress that can really compare to the original design.
I think Broadway and Chicago have always had the best Wands, Crowns, and Jewelry for their Glindas, while London has the best INTGR dress.

Johnny, thanks for the pictures!
They sparked a couple questions in my mind, and I couldn't PM you, so hopefully it is okay if I pose them to you here.
I don't know much about Behind the Emerald Curtain, so I was just curious to know, if you don't mind, since you have pictures of the stage: do they take you into the audience of the theater and then take you to a separate room with the props displayed? And, given your pictures, I presume they allow photography? What city was this in?
Thanks!

I just wanted to add to the discussion of at what point in the show's history Glinda's used different wands. I believe some people said that more recently Chicago's production has used the NOMTW wand for the catfight scene, but I don't believe that's correct. I had a backstage tour in Chicago last November, and I saw the look-alike wand that Glinda uses for the catfight. If I recall correctly, it was not a bad replica, just a lot more flexible. I wouldn't think that it would make any sense to use the proper NOMTW wand for the catfight scene because I imagine that wand is very costly and probably not the most durable thing in the world.

I do remmeber Michelle London using the NOMTW wand, that may have been because that one was easier for her to twirl because she always had difficulty twirling the wand. I do not remember Annaleigh using it.
