I think it'll last a while but no more than 10 years, personally. It's amazing, but it'll get worn out eventually.

I think it'll go for five or six more years. Like you I don't think it'll run for more than 10 years, and it certainly won't run past 10 years from NOW. As much as I want to see it surpass POTO, I don't think it will...

i would say more no more than 10 years, musicals go out of style, i hope to see wicked atleast 5 more times b4 it ends, then maybe in a few years find a new musical obsession.

I hope it lasts more than 10 years (so I can be in it) but it probably won't, but even after then, it could still tour, or play in other cities besides Broadway.

i honestly have to say 10 years or longer. i don't see people getting tired of it. it has a really good message.

Do u know how many people want to be in Wicked. MILLIONS! What are the chances one of us will make it?
Elphaba/Belle
Jan 15 2006, 11:35 PM
Well yeah, but only about a third of those million will actually have the opportunity to even audition. I didn't mean necessarily on B'way or Tour or Chicago. I also meant for it to be made into a Community Theatre production.

i don't think a million people want to be in wicked. i don't think a million people want to be on broadway. people are quickly changing their minds because they want money not fun. i think i have a good chance of getting in wicked. not a lead, but an ensemble member. which is fine! i love the ensemble! they are really good and i don't like any of the male leads.

MSU as in Michigan State?
I think Wicked won't be around for more than ten years. I mean, with the B'way, Chicago, London and Tour.... I smell over commercailizing...

Much though I wish I disagreed with you, I don't. I <3 Wicked, but I have this feeling that they've been pushing it too hard, and that people will get tired of it, fad-style. But even if it stops running for a bit, it could always make a comeback later on down the road...

Once Wicked goes out I don't think it'll come back on Broadway as a revival.
I think that alot of the show has time specific jokes and stuff. The message of the show will always be there but it wont be the same in, say, 50 years.
What do you'll think?

Jan 17 2006, 08:18 PM
I predict that Wicked will go on for OVER ten years. its like the new "Beauty and the Beast"- it will become a classic very soon and will likely run long enough for the world to sink it in-that means a very long time. or at least I HOPE that's what will happen.

I think Wicked will last 10-15 more years. At the same time, i want it to close, or get less popular, so the rights will come out.

Forever!

But I'm sure it will last for a loooong time. It's one of the greats! Heck, Rent is still going strong!

When it starts to fizzle out, they can make the movie (like they did with Rent) and it can start back a new, like POTO too.

Well Phantom just came back to Broadway. It's not the longest running show on Broadway...it's the longest running Broadway show. Then there is "The Fantastiks" which ran from 1960-2002 on Broadway. 42 years!!!! So Wicked could run for a long time. It doesn't have to run long on Broadway. That is what the National Tours are for.
The longest running National Tours are Les Miserables and The Phantom of the Opera. Just thought I'd let you know that.
Ok my point is it will last for a long time. And it will be revived because people are fascinated with the Wizard of Oz. And that fascination will never go away. Just like the fascination for the Phantom of the Opera, which remember was also a movie from the 1920's with Lon Chaney Sr.
Remember after you read this know this: there is a difference between a Broadway show and a show on Broadway. A Broadway show does not necessarily have to be on Broadway (tours). A show on Broadway well is a show on Broadway.
OK I'm going to stop typing before my hands get tired.

I hope it does run a long time so I have more chances to see it! Finding people to play the parts will get harder but I hope it stays around!

I think Wicked will stay on Broadway for another 5 years, no more. As amazing as it is, I think it will lose a lot of its current teenage fan base by then. And there will probably be another musical similar to it by then

I have to disagree on the teenage fan base going down. I mean the teenage fan base for the Wizard of Oz has been up since it came out. So as I've said before because they are fascinated with it. And if they are facsniated with a fantasy land like Oz then Wickeds fan base will only grow.

i put more than 10 years because that is what i hope, but i don't think it will last that long becasue eventually it will lose it's novelty, once people get over the fact that they FLY!!!(oooo) a lot of people will stop going and with shows like Marry Poppins for instance coming in with peple flying and bigger stuff that will be coming i don't think it will last that long. :-(
MORE THAN TEN YEARS! But I don't see it breaking any records or anything. Just being a long-running hit.

It will last a really long time, I mean look at Cats, it was a shit show, that made no sence, and yet it was one of the longest running shows. AND not to metnion about Phantom too, They both are really really crappy, and they are the longest running shows. At leat Wicked isnt crap, its all about the popularity,.
