What color is Elphaba's light at the end of Defying Gravity. I keep seeing like a turquise mixed w/ purple and a light blue. I keep noticing that everytime I see it. It's a solid bled of colors that always trance me. Weird, huh?

My friend is a lighting guy. He is still convinced that they were applauding the lighting change at the end of 'Defying Gravity.' I've tried to explain to him that someone flying up into the air is cause for applause.

I agree. Could just be the pictures, though.
It makes me mad at the fact that Joan Marcus didn't take the time to get another Defying Gravity pic for Shoshana. She just photoshopped Idina's one. Grrrr.

Yah she did the same with the one that Nessa and Boq are holdong hands. She added Rob Sapp's head. It's really obvious with the Sho one,cuz the Sho portion is lighter than the body.

FIRE MARCUS!
I've never really liked her pictures, I was more impressed by the ones the New York Times took....

Now I'm wondering if the Ana picture is somehow Photoshopped, if you look, her body is darker than every thing else-which shouldn't be that way if the light is directly on her at the time....

I was looking at that - but the ensemble members are in different positions than Stephanie's picture, so probably not.

But it could still be Photoshopped, from a different one that we haven't seen....

Actually they dont bring their own gels either. They bring their own automated lights (all Vari*Lites) , a WholeHog II console, and dimmers. Nothing in house except Front Of House instruments are used on the tour.
Anyway, the Light durring the flying sequence is actually open white, shining through a fractured crystal lithopatern (glass gobo) with Purple and Teal fragments. Its actually used ALOT throught the show. (No good deed, One SHort day, Whenever elphaba performs a spell(in that case another color ie. red, is thrown infront of the litho and the red absorbs the other color) and the wizards palace. Somtimes, its thrown out of focus and looks softer and somtimes its sharpened like in DG so you can see the litho spinning in the light beam at the end of the song.
it dosent change, the Elphaba specials stay the same but the side light that fades in when the guards enter is just blue. Then everything turns green toward the last few bars of music.
..Yea, i worked the fit up for this show in the gersh so just wanted to share the info. =D

Wow! That's so cool. Have you guys also ever noticed (and this is just me being "eh") that when Glinda enters in Act 1 in her bubble that there is only a couple lights on her. There are no lights on the ensamble members. That's also for when she decends and steps off the bubble. There's a giant spot light on her and no other light on the ensamble. :eyebrows:

not always. If a venue is too small and we cant put up the entire thing.... you'd be surprised at whats not there.
btw: the tour lights arent really Better, There the exact same instruments and the exact same cues.....its the same Light Design. The difference is that your seeing it in various venues where there are alot of variables.... trim heights are different, placement is usually always different (variation on the plot) from the previous. And somtimes instruments lamps can vary slightly as far as color temperture goes. But it really is all the same.

The composition of the shots in those photos is just AWFUL. Off-center, out of focus, and you can't see the actors' faces clearly. I'm not one to nitpick about these things but... DAYUM, JOAN!
Ah well--now that there's a new cast she'll have a whole new crop of pictures to take and play with; I'm sure she'll be back to her old brilliant-photographer self!
