can someone explain the flying umbrella?? b/c i saw an ad for like mastercard or something, and she was flying away from the stage over the audience, how would that work with where she lands?
Fiyero's Third Lover
She's connected with two wires.
nerual824
does she exit and leave the stage that way, if so where does she land when she leaves the stage?
ItsMeeee
Rumours are abound in london that Scarlett Strallen [who played Mary in the west end] is headed to broadway to play Mary again.
and1987
When are Ashley Brown and Gavin Lee scheduled to leave the Broadway company? The tour doesn't start till March. Who is rumored to replace Gavin?
crystalfairie
I do know, but I've completely forgotten. There was a rumor of Gavin Creel but it's not true.

It's not because he's doing "Godspell."
crystalfairie
I know, and that's why it was just a rumor. I was told who's in talks of coming in, and I honestly can't remember.

I saw it a few weeks ago on Broadway too. Adam Fiorentino was easily the highlight for me. Whoever is the next Bert has huge shoes to fill, imo

I saw Adam's understudy, Tony, a few weeks ago and thought he was hands-down the best part of the show. I'm totally rooting for him to get the role full-time when Adam leaves...
and1987
Since this is the thread for the Broadway company I thought we should talk about it here instead of the one about Ashley Brown doing the role on tour: http://www.witchesofoz.com/wicked_boards/i...showtopic=29341 We can continue talking about the tour in that thread. Someone who works at the show said it is likely that Laura Michelle Kelly who originated the role in the West End will take over for Scarlett on Broadway.

So a couple of days ago I got a letter from Jonathan Freeman (from the little mermaid) and he said he would be joining Mary Poppins this October. I'm guessing he was talking about the broadway production cause he's already in NYC. I can upload the letter if you want I couldn't make out what most of it said but I did make out: "my next project will be Mary Poppins in October".
and1987
Jenny Galloway, who originated the role of Mrs. Brill, in the London production willl joined the Broadway cast on September 1.

I don't know if anyone is interested, but Mary Poppins is coming to The Netherlands next year. First they're having a "search for Mary Poppins", which will start in October/November. The Mary's who will compete in the finale are already known and already had two performances aired on television:

At the Musical Awards Gala, with William Spaaij as Bert. After their performance the UK cast takes over to sing 'Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious' (probably spelled wrong, sorry wink.gif)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0OQwtwLt4Hs

At the "Musical-Sing-A-Long" they performed a medley, too bad the camera was a little bit too focussed on the 'special effect'... tongue.gif

It's interesting that she is replacing Scarlett because Scarlett toook over for Laura in the West End, and now Laura is replacing her. I heard Laura Michelle Kelly was going to originate the role on Broadway, but she wanted to record a cd and she and Carmeron Mackintosh had a fallout. If this is true, they must've made up. I've heard wonderful things about her Mary.

Yes! I'm so excited. I love Laura Michelle Kelly's voice. I'm glad she's finally playing Mary on Broadway.

If any of you are wondering where the informtion of LMK and Cameron Mackintosh having a disagreemant of her originating the part on Broadway, it came from here which is the the same article that first reported her reprising the role: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/artic...-Fair-Lady.html . It is found at the twoards the bottom of the page.

Christian Borle will also begin his run in Poppins on Oct. 12th, same day as LMK smile.gif

That is a pair I have to see, no questions asked. I'm going to try and see this cast next May, assuming they'll still be there.

Laura's contract is suppose to breif according to reports. I don't know if it is a three month enagement for the holidays or a six month engagement like Kerry Butler's in Rock of Ages.

It's strange that Disney Theatricals didn't confirm Laura until today although it was reported. I'm glad she and Cameron Mackinstosh worked things out. She's very talented and I'm glad New Yorkers and American tourists can finally see her as Mary.

Scarlett and Adam are absolute gems! Went to their final performance (Daniel Jenkins and two other ensemble members left too) last night and they were wonderful. At the end right after "Anything can happen" Scarlett was in tears-- so heartbreaking. Her interaction with the boy that played Michael at the stage door was the most precious thing! Adam, Adam, Adam I love him and think he was perfect for this role.

It must've been so difficult for Scarlett to say goodbye to this role after playing in on and off for the last four years in London and Broadway. She said it was already incredibly sad when she performed in the closing night of the London production. However, Broadway is lucky to have the AMAZING Laura Michelle Kelly and I'm looking foreward to Christian will bring to the role of Bert.

Maybe you could go see her on one of Christian's planned nights off. LMK is supposedly there only till January and she is amazing as well as an Oliver-Award winning actress. My sister saw her as Mary in London and thought she was very talented.

Sorry for double posting, but here are photos of LMK and Christian's first night. Laura Bell Bundy was their to watch her boyfiend.

http://www.broadway.com/photos/galleries/n...christian-borle

People who were their last night of course LOVED LMK, but there was some people who were pleasently surprised with Christian as Bert Here's what they said about him:

"Christian Borle was good. I don't think of him as having much star quality, but I think that worked fine for the role. He's no Gavin Creel (whom I would have loved to see in the role), but he is able to sell the part quite well, and his dancing throughout is terrific (it didn't show it was his first time going on at all). More importantly, he has a lot of chemistry with Kelly which works out quite nicely."

"Borle was solid for a first night (definitely not phoning it in yet) and he and Kelly had some nice moments, including little glances and head nods and the like that were fun to see from the first few rows. They seem to genuinely like each other, these two. His dancing could get better (I miss watching Gavin Lee do the proscenium tap!) and he dropped his broom during Step in Time, but he is a winning and talented Bert."

"I was surprised by how much I liked Christian as Bert. Yes, it'll take a short time for him to get completely into the role, but I think he is off to a wonderful start. He had some mannerisms and facial expressions that bring a really great quirkiness to Bert that I haven't seen yet."

She is contracted with the show till January, but no one really knows the date she leaves. She's going to film a movie afterwards and then work on another stage show. I'll find out when her last is. Also, here's an interviews with her:
