Me!!! Me!!! The ending was ok but the last sentence made up for it!!
I loved it.. It just summed it all up.. It answered the unanswered questions

I was kinda confused about the last sentence. It could mean so many different things... what do you think that it means?
Yeroismyhero
Jan 19 2006, 10:18 PM
SPOILER!!!!!
It means.. Liir is definitely Elphaba's son because there was speculation throughout the whole book
And it also means.. the baby is green... she inherited her grandmother's skin color.
Which makes it the best sentence of the book lol.

Yeah i was hoping that was it. The other assumption i got was that she drank green elixer. I was kinda confused and i dont think that this book went into detail. Honestly If i didn't read Wicked i'd be lost.

There has to be a sequel to this book!!!!

I personally thought that Wicked was a better novel than Son of a Witch, although I agree that the best part of the SoaW was the end; it definitely makes you want to read what will happen to Elphie's granddaughter!!!! What could the SoaW sequal be called???? Hmm... I hope Gregory Maguire DOES write a sequal to this story!!! (also, what happened to Candle????)

Oh my god I freaked out when I read the last sentence of SOAW. Hopefully, Gregory will write another one... He wasn't planning on writing a second to Wicked but he ended up doing it, so maybe that'll happen for SOAW too.

Candle either must've been taken or ran away! One or the other! It doesn't give a clear description about what happened only Liir's opinion on why candle wasn't there when he returned!

I think she left because her daughter was born green
I think this scared her and she ran off.. knowing Liir would be coming soon

I don't think she left because she was green. i mean, even Liir didn't know she was green until she was washed out.
I personally think she ran to save her child, knowing that Liir would be arriving. Or maybe she just panicked because the baby was born dead (at least we have that idea)... but mainly because there was someone after her.

hmm... I'll have to re-read SoaW ....

Yah i remember when Liir picked up the baby he thought it was dead. And yes, i was still covered in blood. There's so many darn unanswered questions and im really starting to get impatient not knowing the answers.

Me too! but I don't think maguire will ever write a third book. He wasn't planning pon writing a sequel to Wicked either, so.... idk...

It all has to do with money lol. If Son of a Witch does well he'll write a 3rd
musictheatregal
Jan 22 2006, 09:18 PM
Hasn't it done well already???
He's gotten alot of publicity thanks to the musical. Alot of fame and with that he can make a fortune off of books. He'd be stupid not to create another one. But hey, that's just my opinion!!!

Oh no! I totally agree. But alot of times authors have already written or are close to the end of the book before letting anyone know its been written. I am not saying that's how it is in all cases, but alot of times that's how it works.. so we shall see.

It's not about money always. Sometimes, sequels can be really crappy. I'm not saying that SoaW was, but it defeneetly was not better than wicked, or eve at the same level. Wicked was so much richer and better, imo...
In terms of money, yes, he should write a 3rd book, but when it comes to pride and essence of the story... I don't know...

Yeah that's true! OMG you know i wouldv'e never thought of that. OMG you guys are amazing!
I loveed the last sentence, but I also LOVED the part where Liir looks into the crystal ball and sees a woman and a basket and every now and then a "green foot" :ha: would rock the basket.

Gah, you beat me to it. I was just about to say that exact scene was probably my favorite in the entire novel. I actually had to put the book down so I could bawl my eyes out. :ha:

I thought he'd always planned to write a sequel, though he wrote Wicked as a stand alone regardless, but what do I know, lol.
How much do you all think The Cowardly War will have to do with Elphie's bloodline?

I heard that Gregory was definitely planning on writing more Wicked books. Let's just hope it doesn't take him ten years, like SoW! :ha:
The last sentence was definitely the best. Ever since I read that Candle was pregnant, I knew the child was going to be green. And it totally made it for me when I found out I was right.

I think I really wanted it because I want the baby to grow up to be like her mother... :broomstick:

It was the best line ever. If I weren't in school I would have been jumping up and down.

I don't think SoaW is given the credit it deserves, sometimes....
I loved the last line, but other favorite parts of the book are Liir's "escape" from Southstairs, as he has his own Defying Gravity moment, or his entire journey to and arrival at Kiamo Ko again, that's written so wonderfully.... when he sees Elphaba and Fiyero in the glass.. and the passage when him and Candle are together at that cottage, and there's that awesome quote about memory..

I kind of loved the bird protest bit where they formed Elphaba in the sky.
I also loved to hate Shell. I loved how in the end Liir who could have cared less about the world took on a cause just like his dear old Mom. I loved this book.
