Last I heard, Lisa Brescia is playing Elphaba this afternoon. How true it is or not remains to be seen.

Is this her first time ever performing elphaba in front of a paying crowd? If so, best of luck to her tonight.

Yep, it is! I spoke to her very breifly on the phone yesterday, and she mentioned how Julia was ill and was debating on whether she could make it through the evening show - and decided to go on. I know Lisa is going to be fabulous!

Sorta OT but, LittleGalinda--are you a member of POL? Cause I saw you wanted to be Meg/Amneris, and your username is a lot like LittleMegGiry over there. Is that you? Just wondering. I'm Pianist391 here and there, and pretty much everywhere. :ha:

Agreed, julia has said that she hates to miss shows (as everyone does) but sometimes its for the best. I hope someone was there today who can post a review.

I just heard from Lisa and her performance went very well! She said she made a few little mistakes and a few big ones but overall she gave herself a "B". I'm so happy for her, but I do hope Julia feels better soon!

Glad to hear that. I can assume the little mistakes were a missed or changed word or two? Lets hear what the big mistakes were. :-)

Congrats to Lisa! I've been waiting to see how she would be in the role!
And I actually heard her TWAI.. and it was fantastic! Very youthful but she seemed really nervous. Understandable, and I can only expect her to get better!

From what I heard she sang very close to the score, which is refreshing, if you ask me.
I hope Julia gets better soon!
But if Julia is sick, I really want to see Caissie when I go in two weeks

I would tell you, but I don't know myself. She had schoolwork to do, so she didn't have much time. I can ask if you like!

REALLY? Sorry if I'm slow on the uptake, but when did Lisa take over as the Ephie understudy? Curious because I know of her.
:btw: Lisa played Amneris in the touring production of Aida. I saw her in Orange County, CA on a July 4th weekend in 2003 and thought she was the best part of the show. She was the understudy for Amneris on Broadway when I saw it again that September.
So that being said, I saw her more as G(a)linda than Elphie, but I think those who see her may be in for a treat.
But I do hope Julia gets well soon. She'll always be my Elphie personally.

That's what I though at first - because Amneris is a very "ditzy" character, and Lisa is a blonde but she's quite serious and very intelligent when you speak to her and vocally she definately suits Elphie (she's a mezzo and a very strong, pure belter, and not a high soprano). I don't see her physically in the role. She isn't much taller than me and I'm 5'3.

its the same as those who saw idina as amneris....she was SO perfect in that role....played the ditz very well...but shes also a PHENOMINAL and the original elphaba haha...the beauty of actors and actresses...particularly very talented ones...they can play it all

Oh no doubt and that's one of the high prasies people have brough to Julia's Elphie: her acting the role as much as the singing. There is little doubt in my mind that anyone in Wicked brings some good chops to the dance, both for Elphie and G(a)linda.
Hope it's going well for Lisa. Congrats to her and this feather in her cap.

Julia is back to top form and returned to the show last night.
I was fortunate enough to "hear" a little bit of Lisa's first performance. While she had some problems (she wasn't able to sustain the last not of TWAI,) she did exceptionally well for her first performance, at times sounding eerily like Idina Menzel.
I'm sure she'll improve once she has time to get settled in. If her first time on is any indication, we're in for one first rate Elphaba.
