This has been driving me crazy for the last few weeks, so I'd thought I'd mention it. Are the video banners making anyone else's computer slow? I know there was a limit size change (750 I think?) but there is still a problem because people haven't taken off there banner that exceed it. Don't get me wrong, the banners are gorgeous and I'm sure they take a long time to make, trust me I know, but it makes the pages freeze as you scroll down the thread and sometimes they take forever to load. I can't imagine how much slower it is for dial-up users. I just think maybe there should be a limit to just avatars, or a smaller size for the banners, or maybe someone has a better idea than I do. I'm sorry if I'm offending anyone, I swear those aren't my intentions at all, I'm just trying to help!

My computer doesnt slow down when I pass video banners and I have charter internet..but then again, I have a Alienware computer in my basement...so you sortof expect things to be pretty quick!

But yeah, I am with ya...that would bug me too. I had to delete my video banner because the video was a bootleg... :-(

No I agree with you. My banner is really annoying even to me. The other day I was scrolling down and I was like god i wonder if other people think my banner is annoying.

they annoy me some times not all the time when they go really slow then stop, then slow down loading of the page

Same here. Loading times have varied depending on what page I'm on. It's not too bad, but it can get a tad annoying at times.

Lol I thought i was alone on this subject, lol. Yeah, sometimes the pages load fine and sometimes I just give up on loading hte page altogether. Hopefully with that new rule on the limist size, this problem will be solved soon!

as much as i do love them...i guess i'm kinda with ya. they probably take up a lot of bandwidth too. however, video ICONS i think we can keep right? *pleads*

Yeah, I don't think the video icons take up a lot of room on here at all lol, I want them to stay! ahah.

And maybe an animated banner OR an animated avatar, but not both?

Video banner are starting to get on my nerves. They slow my computer down tremendously. Video icons don't do much but the video banners do alot. So yea, I am against them.

It doesn't slow my home computer down, but the one at school complete freezez for a few seconds when I scroll down and hit a video banner. It is a bit annoying.

Yeah, it used to get annoying. Animated avatars don't slow down my computer, but animated banners usually cause a bit of a problem.
PopularGalinda
I have an animated banner, but I made sure to make the video portion 100x100 (same size as an avatar) so it wouldn't be a problem for people.
holy megan hilty
Actually yours never gave my computer a problem, Alyse. That's a good idea making it the same size as an avatar.
RockTheSoul
Its better to use really short clips in your banners. If the clip exceeds a certain amount of frames and size, then computers start to slow down. Take into consideration when you make an animated banner how big a file it is.
Nick Chopper
Currently, an animated banner cannot exceed 750kbs.

Okay, okay!!! I changed mine to the non animated version. I don't want to be responsible for your computers slowing down...but I really loved that banner.

The video banners/icons haven't been slowing my computer down or anything. But the frames often take a while to load or they load jerkily so the animation doesn't run smoothly. I think that sort of defeats the purpose of having an animated banner, if it doesn't display correctly for a lot of people. I mean, I usually want to sit and watch animated gifs for a while if I can, but if the animation isn't loading properly due to too many frames or size, then it's sort of hard to do that.

Just my two cents on the matter. ;-)

For some reason, yesterday, all animation simply CEASED TO EXIST on my computer. No animated avatars or banners, no animated smilies...anybody have any idea what might have caused that?

Oh! Haha! I was staring at it for like 15 minutes and refreshed the page like 20 times trying to figure out why the animation wasn't going, lol.
