Does anyone know why the song The Wicked Witch Of The East was left off the soundtrack?

Because it was a spoiler.
Yeah, there's been a few topics on this, I don't have a link though.

Ive never really understood why it constitutes a spoiler. Anybody who is even the least bit familar with the film version knows that she is going to be the WWOTE. Its not a spoiler anymore than that Elphaba becomes the WWOTW.

The spoiler is about Boq becoming the Tin Man.

But you don't hear that in the song. She does talk about him loosing his heart in the speaking part (I don't know if that is what they are talking about) , but hey, in DTL Fiyero says things like "brainless" and "thoughtless".
Also, I think people realize there might be spoilers if they listen to a cast recording.

Yeah, technically, the only spoiler about Boq becoming the tinman is in March of the Witch Hunters when he sings 'Its due to her, Im made of tin, her spell made this occur". Anybody with a brain that can read see's that his name is the one on all the Boq parts and also that song. It never says anything about the tinman in WWOTE.

I think I remember reading somewhere that it wasn't included because there was too much dialogue. Maybe there was also too much "You have to see it to understand it" ...ness.

Yeah, there's really only a few lines of singing... It would make a pretty short clip.

There really isn't enough singing in it to warrant a place on a recording (without the speech). Yes, I know ASM and INTG (Reprise) are short, but without the speech, WWOTE would make no sense.

That might be true if they didnt combine clips on almost every other cast recording out there. The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee album has clips on there that are like litereally 2 lines of singing, and they just put them on the album like this "Goodbye Reprise/Favorite Moment of the Bee #2" They should have done the same with INTG reprise and WWOTE.

I was saying they were both so short, they could both go onto a different song.

I tried to edit right after I posted, but WoO died on me. What I mean is that the rest of the cast recording is in the order of the show, so I don't think they would place songs out of order like that. Unless they put it before Wonderful or after Thank Goodness.

Not all cast recordings are like that. Drowsy, for the most part, is in order, but there is a song or two that is not in order (well, mostly to preserve spoilers).
Drowsy has short "talking" clips on the CR too.
I really wish that they would have put WWotE on the cast recording.

Me too...I think it really shows a side of Nessa that we can't get with her other parts on the CR.

Yeah, and thats what Im saying. Instead of INTG being its own song, it should have been on the end of a song. And WWOTE should have been on the end of another song.

Perhaps they might add it to the London CR.
But I wish it was on there too.
I mean we have DoS and that's short same with INTG Reprise.
Its one of my fave songs in the entire show too hehe

But the music doesn't keep stopping and starting. They are both one consistant song. It would make sense to keep them and take off WWOTE.

Wow, sorry! I very effectively misread that.
It'd be nice to have the song preserved somewhere, but I don't think the producers are interested... For some reason I get the impression that they really want to keep it off any recordings. Maybe to surprise the audience? Dunno.
