Nick, I'm just learning layers (and, yes, I've had PSP for years--aieee!). What do you mean "bring it to the top?"

<-- feels like an idiot

Go to the area where you can view your layers. It should be at the top row, labeled "layers", but this may not be the case for PSP. Click on the wanted layer, and drag it up to the top. I apologize if that doesn't help.

ok i really should know this but i dont...
where does one find selective coloring in PS CS?

Layer>New Adjustment Layer> Selective Color
ShizKid
Recntly, I've had trouble resizing picutres in PSP8. Whenever I resize one, even like 80% or 90%, the image gets blurry and choppy. I dont know what to do.

Because I'm trying to make a simple icon tutorial, but whenever i try to resize an image, its gets blurry. Any help would be appreciated!
DanaC
Is your resize setting one smart size? I made a cap for you:

And if it already is then just sharpen your image once and that should fix the blurry... =)
ShizKid
yes! thank you!!!

EDIT:

Okay, here's a quick tutorial, for PSP8.

Start with your base:

Step 1: Duplicate your layer. Then go to Layer> Properties> Screen. Set the opacity to whatever looks good. I usually set mine to 50%.

Step 2: Duplicate your original base. Drag it to the top of your Layers. Go To Layer> Properties> Soft Light. Set the opacity to whatever looks good.

It should look something like this. It depends on the opacity of the Screen and Soft Light layer.

Step 3: Layer> New Adjustment Layer> Color Balance.
Shadows: -36, -15, 63
Midtones: 24, 29, -30
Highlights: 32, 24, 40
(I just put in random numbers, you can play around with the colors to whatever you like)

Step 4: Layer> New Adjustment Layer> Hue/Saturation/Lightness.
Hue: 0
Saturation: 22
Lightness: 0
(Again, I just put in a random number. Play around with it)

Step 5: New Layer. Fill in it. (#0E1838) Layer>Properties>Exclusion. Opacity 100%

There you go! An icon. :ha:

You can add borders, text, brushes, textures, anything.

No problem! My PSP8 did the same thing about a month ago, so I looked it up on icon_tutorial and that solved my problem! I don't know why PSP8 does that all of a sudden though.

Does anyone have a good link that gives a lot of icon light textures?

bobert5353
Can someone post a few selective coloring tutorials? Like either how to, or just regular LJ tutorials that involve it or something? Thanks.
Bubbly
This one has been very helpful to me the last few days. I hope it works for you@

Whats a good program to get to start learning how to do graphics?
Catalys
My advice, as someone who was in the same position a few months ago, is to start with a free programme and see how you get on. That way if you decide not to continue it won't have cost you anything. Probably the best & most widely used free programmes are Paint.net and GIMP. Alternatively you could try the free trial of Photoshop - though once you start with that it's hard to give it up after 30 days. (Yeah, I ended up buying it!)
WickedInsane
Can someone explain EVERYTHING. I am so confused about it all. I have GIMP and Photoshop 5.0 installed so if anyone can PM me with instructions to do things, that would be great.
bobert5353
It would take pages to explain everything, just google a tutorial.
girl in the mirror
Not sure if this would go here, but can anyone give me some good texture sites?
girl in the mirror
Thanks for those! Yayy new textures.
alittlepatience
www.photoshopcafe.net has some neat tutorials. I used their "starry sky" one (in 'Textures Tutorials') and I really liked it.

Thank you for the textures sites, daisy!

WickedInsane- I taught myself to use Photoshop (and I had CS2, so mine was probably more complicated than yours!). It's been over a year and I'm still learning. Experiment with different functions on different pictures. Look at the resource LJs and follow tutorials.
If you don't know where to start- Layer modes are super useful. They're the drop down box on the layers palette (if you haven't adjusted anything it should say "normal"). See what it does to different kinds of pics.
Johnny
Please can someone post one for Selective coloring effect on PSP

I really need it! thanks ( :
daisy
You can't selective colour on PSP, only on PS.
Johnny
You can get some for the same effect though.
daisy
oh sorry, well have you tried icon_tutorial over at LJ?
Johnny
Yeah, but most of those are for PS. So I just thought I would try here.

Thanks anyway. smile.gif
Dawn
This probably sounds incredibly stupid, but: I'm not asking you to tell me, but could you direct me to a site or tutorial that goes step by step as to how to make a banner on either Photoshop CS3 or Jasc Paint Shop Pro. I'm sorry to bother anyone, but I just need a link. Thank you so much! smile.gif

Anyone have any good psp tutorials? I've been working on Gimp, but just got the free trial of psp. There are some good one on icon tutorial but I'm looking for tuts to make sigs, wallpapers, etc. smile.gif
bobert5353
^^ The tutorials on icon_tutorial can be used for banners, wallpapers, etc. Just follow the same steps.
I'mPhosphorescent
*headdesk* Maybe if I used my brain once in a while I would get that? Thanks!
Broadway
Maybe I'm blind and missed it, but I didn't see any links for Photoshop Elements 2.0. If anyone has any, please link because my current icons are so BEYOND pathetic...lol. I also have issues translating from one program to another, so I can never get it right if I try to translate from another version of photoshop or another program completely. So, a link to one for Elements 2.0 would be great biggrin.gif

Do you know how to get the caps and all that? Make sure you put them all together in one folder and then import them into ImageReady with File ->Import Folder as Frames.
Catalys
^Um, I don't think so. I can do ordinary screencaps but presumably for a moving icon you'd need to cap at 24, or however many frames it is, per second & I don't know how to do that.
I'mPhosphorescent
Hmm well I use ImageGrab to get my caps, just google it. It lets you cap however many you want. Hope that's helpful.
musical_girl_forever
Hey guys!
Just wondering...how do you make a banner with more than one picture? I was using a site but I coud only use one picture...
galiindafiied
Neeeevermind. smile.gif
Johnny
Does anyone have a good tutorial for green faces? lol, cause all the ones I normally use don't look good.

Anyyyonnnnnnneee. biggrin.gif

Johnny
Ohh, Jenna, I ment like using SC or something like not turning a face green like you were doing coloring on a banner.

Thank you so much for trying though cool.gif
Kerryafied
this may seem a really stupid question- but on GIMP, how do you send a layer to the back??

And does anyone know any tutorials for GIMP- were they just show you the basic stuff of how to use all the tools and what they do?

Thanks xx
I'mPhosphorescent
*points to sig* This is what I mean. It looks great in ImageReady and now this. I know there must be something simple to fix it, but nothing has worked yet. Please?

EDIT: *points to sig* Nevermind wink.gif
greenbutter
i need brushes for ps.. i know you have to look at Lj, but I dont know where to start, can anyone give me some leads ??? smile.gif
