ok so this is in the help thread but i decided that it would be better in here so here it is...creating moving Icons in ImageReady
Moving Icon from different pictures:
I’m going to assume you know how to get the images you want to use and resize them all to the same size, whatever size you may want. I am going to do this as a standard icon, 110 px x 110 px. I tend to do detailed directions because I have to do this for my mother all the time who is not the fastest person around, so if you go duh, sorry, just skip to something you don’t know.
1. Open Image ready
Basic introduction to the pallets:
Tool Pallet:
Holds the basic tools, close to the ones found in PhotoShop, note the preview in browser buttons
Layer Pallet:
Very important remember this one
Animation Pallet:
Another very important one
Web Content:
Don’t worry about this one for this
2. Ok create a new document, size it for the total size you want your image to be, I set mine to 110px x 110px. You can also choose if you want a transparent background or a solid color, select whatever you would like.
There are a few ways to go about the rest of the stuff; I will go through my way.
3. Open the images you want to have in your animation.
4. Drag each image into the document you created. Note that as you drag in images they all create their own layer. All layers are set to visible by default.
5. Position each layer where you would like them. You may have to turn on and off the visibility of the different layers so you can see where you are positioning them, this can be done by clicking on the small eye ball located next to each layer
** If you would like a boarder around your icon make sure that it is placed as the top layer and that there is nothing cut off by it in each layer**
6. Now that you have each layer positioned where you would like it, turn on the visibility of the layers you want to appear in the first frame and turn off the visibility of the others.
7. If you look at the animation pallet you can see that there is one frame already and that it shows only the layers that are visible. Under that frame is a small triangle, this is a pull down menu that allows you to choose how many times you want your animation to play, you have a choice between once or forever, choose forever.
8. Directly under the image in the animation pallet is a small pull down menu wit the time (the default is 0 sec.) Click on this. This is where you set how long each frame is displayed, you need to choose a time, depending how fast/slow you want your animation will depend on what you want to pick. The larger the number the longer it will be displayed before switching images, and vice versa. For this tutorial choose .5 sec.
9. Next you need to duplicate the frame. Click on the Duplicate/new frame button. This will completely duplicate the frame immediately before it.
10. Next you need to set what will be visible in the next frame. Make sure the second frame of the animation is highlighted and go to the layers pallet. In the layers pallet turn on the layers you want visible for the next frame and turn off the layers you do not want visible.
11. Repeat steps 9 and 10 for each frame of your animation.
12. Your timeline in the animation pallet should look something like this now:
13. If you want you can now hit the preview in browser button and see what your animation looks like.
14. After viewing your animation you can go back and change the timing on the frames to speed it up or slow it down as necessary. Make sure if you decide that you want to change the speed that you change it on all the frames to make it consistent (unless you want certain images to remain longer than others and in that case go for it.
15. All that’s left is to save it. You need to save it twice (once for the web and once to save your original file if you want to be able to edit it later. To save it to edit later just do a normal save/save as. To save it for the web go to File > Save Optimized As.

16. Choose where you want your image saved, on the save as type: make sure that images only is the option selected. Save your file.

You are done. Congratulations. There are of course more advanced things you can do such as having a transition happen between the frames (that is called a tween, it is located on the pull down menu on the side of the animation pallet). After having the basics down you should be able to do many different types of icons. If you want to import a video in you can, be forewarned though it takes a lot of memory and it can take a long time to load on computers. I don’t recommend doing more than maybe 50 frames, (a few seconds worth of video. The process is quite similar as to doing it with still images. All you have to do is open the video in Image ready, tell it if you want the full video or a selection (I always recommend a selection unless you have already cropped your video to the length you want). It will import they video in as frames and you can do what you want with it from there.
Hope this has been helpful.
