this is my first time using a lot of these effects in my current banner/icon set (if you've noticed, my banners are usually pretty dull looking cuz i wasn't brave enough to try all these fancy effects! :roll: :disagree: :mrgreen: )

Your banner is way too black. Make sure your background color is transparent.

I'd say just lighten it up a bit...It's a little dark

I absolutley love your banner. Very pleasing to the eye. The only contradiction I have is the green snapshot. It seems out of place. Maybe B&W rather than green? Idk.

i did actually have it as black and white...it kinda looked out of place as well. maybe i'll change it back..

Maybe lighten your icon a bit. I feel like the text is overpowering the picture, and the text should be there to compliment the picture.

As for your banner - I like it. Nice and simple.

Boqboy - I agree with Miss Glinda on your avatar. I also agree that the simplicity of your banner makes it stand out as unique, and it doesn't have a "splash everything on for the hell of it" feel. It's nice. The only suggestion I could make is that you have a little too much white space. Perhaps push the pictures closer to the middle - just a little bit.

Daisy - I really like your banners. Whether it was the cool or warm tones, you make them feel deep, instead of flat. While I like the torn-page effect on the first banner, I'm not so certain the text on the second one matches the colours of the banner. That's just a nitpick. As for your icons, the colour ones stood out to me more, and I'm a sucker for black/white. Sometimes it seems as though there's either too much black space, or the brush/text become the focus instead of the image. I'm also a believer in not using a colour in an icon that doesn't exist in the image (save for white, but that's tricky).

The coloring is kind of glowing and red, especially on the photo of Lea drinking coffee. She's pretty red in that one, and her hands are kind of splotch-y. I'd say just watch how many overlay/soft light layers or selective colors you're using.

I love the light texture, though. Very pretty!

I fixed it up a bit. It came out a lot better. Lea is kinda blue now lol, I can keep messing around with some stuff.

Yeah, she is kind of blue. But, it looks 100000x better already! I always go crazy with layers, also. :mrgreen:

i was talking to a little perky adn she gave me some tips to help me redo my banner does the blending look nicer i relize it looks somewhat black but thats the background colour of all the pics i used

Thanks, Nick. I'll keep it in mind next time. I guess sometimes I like to crop things out of the norm and a bit abstract, which is where there's alot of space. I'll take your ideas in mind, though.

I think the coloring on your banner is really pretty, but there's alot of white space between the second and third pictures. Maybe try putting the pictures closer together.

Yeah, I had trouble with that. I wanted it to be a straight diagonal line, but the spacing wouldnt work, so i settled for that. :ha:

Bob, whatever texture you used is messing with the faces and it's way too busy.

these two are my favorites because of the coloring, and because how crisp the last one looks.

Bob I would change the hue/saturation because its all discolored on their faces. Also I would add a soft light later of the base to make it smoother and look better.

And xxDavidAyersxx I LOVE your banner, I love how you placed the pics!

I decided to use heavy selective coloring instead. Any comments? I have hated all of my grapahics lately so I am looking for new things to try and new techniques and such.

CC? I tried using only one picture, and with the white backround, none of the textures i wanted to use looked good, so i added the diagonal lines and the pink circles.

Bob the coloring looks really good. I would add maybe a light exclusion layer though so it's not so fluorescent.

And where you have the white under the font I would make it a different color and set to screen or something so you can see through it.

other than that it looks great!

Shizkid - did you just lower the opacity of the lines and circles? Or did you set it to overlay or something?

I set the lines to Overlay, and opacity 45% or something. I wanted the lines to be shown a lot, too bring more to the banner.

I like the second one better.. in the first one her hair is a little blue and I think the second one is just smoother.

^ you'res are good. you might want to add in a few more colorful textures to yer work.

and Bob, you're banners are very nice, but you might want to try playing around with some new fonts. Use more than one font on a banner, its adds *flavor* to it.

Sorry Anthony, haha. I would maybe erase the part over her face using 50% opacity so you can still see it a little bit, and I would add a border and maybe a few brushes?

Yeah I agree Christy, thanks for pointing that out. I am just going through a dry spell with graphic making.

Any one else ever feel like that? I'm not happy with like anything I have made lately and I just feel really uninspired and uncreative and I am having a hard time doing stuff.

Bob, I've been feeling like that until recently. Try and get into something new! Like, I started getting into Grey's and Skins, and that helped a lot. Music helps, getting into a new artist or musical even. It takes a while, but when you get out of the funk, you'll feel MUCH better about your graphics.

Usually being away from Adobe each weekday helps inspire me. Sometimes, however, I hit a blank and have a lot of trouble working with the graphics. This is for banners, in particular.

DanaC - In particular, I love the banner. The only nitpick I have is the last image. The first two images are nice and crisp, excellent saturation and resolution. The last one doesn't fit. Also, I don't like how her hair falls into the second image's arm. Perhaps put the second image infront of the third in your layer box. Your avatar is simple - which is good. I like the low hued tones. It helps the yellow stand out.

Shizkid - I'd choose the first banner. For the images in the second banner, they seem too space out. However, I like the text in the second better than the first. In the first, it really dominates, and draws attention away from the images.

gravity_defier - I've noticed a lot of people really like that black/white circle effect that RocktheSoul introduced, but your's doesn't seem crisp enough. My advice - don't feather that part. Or have a glow. Also, all of the images go well together, except that second one. Putting book/cover images with liveaction ones hardly ever goes well. Remove that, and move the first over with the others, and I think that banner is going to look really good. I love the overlays you have on it.
