Okay whenever Glinda says "Can I call you Elphie" and Elphaba goes "It's a little perky," the audience always laughs. And I don't get the joke. lol. i feel stupid if there's just a joke there that I don't get. So if somebody gets the joke then feel free to let me know about it cuz I'm clueless.

I think it’s because Elphie is a “cute and perky” nickname. Which as you can tell (well compared to Glinda) Elphaba is not “cute and perky”. And Glinda giving her that nickname (while Glinda is all those things) is just sort of funny. I guess the nickname is the opposite of what Elphaba is and that’s what makes it funny…maybe……I don’t know if that helps or answers your question….

It's kinda like why people laugh at the end of Wicked Witch of the East *I'm trying not to spoil anything even though all of you all PROBABLY already know...* and right before No Good Deed when the guard goes "Put him up on those poles there til he tells us where the witch went!" and people have a realization. Elphie is considered perky because of this.
All the cheerleaders in my school:
Ashley
Kitty
Katy
Suzy
get it AshlEEEEE
KittEEEEE
KatEEEEEE
SuzEEEE
ElphiEEEEEE
That is the perky thing.
The cape thing: Where did the WWoftW from WofO get her cape? That is where, from Glinda. Like said before, it is a realization.

I’ve only laughed at that part because of the way Megan and JLT say “WHAT” but other then that I don’t find the action of Elphie telling Glinda to “get on” funny.

Flying brooms weren't something common before that scene, as far as the audience sees. That's like someone making a cello or something levitate and going "QUICK, get on!" wouldn't people around you laugh?

Plus, it makes me laugh the way Stephanie jumps up and like, plants her legs apart when she says it. Amusing for me, anyway.

When you say "There's a car on the lamb" it means, a car got away, like, "on the run" so when you say, "there's a goat on the lam" it is a pun. Get it? Lam...lamB?
The "get on" thing is that, like said before, no one rides a broom. It started because Elphie learned to levitate on. Can you imagine me getting a vacuum to levitate and shout "Get on!" It is a little inside witch joke like with the cape.

OK, here's one of the biggest things that really bugs me...
Before 'Popular', Elphaba tells her sad story about why it's her fault Nessa is the way she is...milkflowers...mother never woke up, etc. Then Galinda says "That may be your secret Elphaba, but that doesn't make it true..."
*AWKWARD SILENCE*
Galinda smiles, "Oh look! It's tomorrow!!! *giggles*"
Why in the world does she say this? I always supposed it was just a random perky Galinda moment, and I laugh because I think it's funny at how random it is, but why does she say it? I feel so dumb...

I saw the same reaction yesterday during WWOTE. People laugh for a moment and then get quiet very quickly when they see the reaction of the person in question.
Also, earlier in the show when they reveal that the baby is green, there was some laughter. That laughter disappeared the second the father says "Take it away". They realize very quickly that it is not a funny moment.

Everyone laughs when they hold the doll up and scream "GREEN!" its hiliarious cause the baby is all rubbery and jiggly.
In NYC when i saw it people laughed when during wwote when Michelle said, "You fly around OZ.." i dont see why thats funny.

Why do people laugh at the unelected official part? I mean I get it but I don’t get it. I didn’t find it that funny. People seem to laugh more at that then anything else.
Why don’t they use the dragon more often in the show? I mean I know why it’s there but they should use it more then 2 or 3 times (get more for your money type a thing I guess).

Well, basically, she was saying she couldn't harbor a fugitive - which is illegal - because she's an unelected official - which is also illegal. You know what bothers me? (Please, tell me I'm not the only one!) During "Something Bad", when Dr. Dillamond is singing and then he starts 'baaaing' and everyone laughs at that. Ummm...I don't find the humor. It means he's losing his ability to speak. And most of the audience laughs, but by the second time it happens they're like "Ooooo...not funny."
There are other things, but I can't remember right now...but that just always irked me.

See, I think that that's the reaction that they're going for. You know, the Goat seems so... well, for lack of a better word,
human... and then he does something so utterly goat-like. And people don't grasp the full seriousness of the situation (animals losing their powers of speech and such) until later in the song, at which point they realize that it really
isn't funny. So when the audience laughs the first few times around, it doesn't really bug me.
What
does bug me, however, is when people are still laughing at the 'baa's' at the
end of the song — at which point you'd think that it wouldn't be so humorous to them anymore. That happened one time when I saw the show...
WickedElphie28
Jan 23 2006, 12:29 AM
Yeah, I suppose you're right. I am just super sensitive to it because I've seen it more than once, so I don't laugh...
But yes, I've been there when they're still laughing at the end of the song...and I was there when they laughed when he comes in the second act after "Wonderful" and I was just floored. I sat there wondering if any of those people laughing had any clue what Elphaba was fighting for...

I don't find the laughing bothersome. You realize people are there for their first time. Don't hate them because they are giving money to the thing you love most. They have a right to laugh (not knowing the outcome as you do) and some people find things funny that you don't.
I find some jokes funny that others don't. And vice versa. Like I don't find the cape thing funny, but I find "Oh, look...It's tomorrow." extremely hilarious!

I think people think it's funny b/c in the show Glinda says "Elphie, may I call you Elphie?" and Elphaba says "Well it's a little perky" and Glinda says "And you can call me...Glinda"---I think they realize ELphaba just isn't a perky person and that's why it's funny b/c she's talking to Glinda who is beyond perky.... I think the last part (what Glinda says) is funny because like in "Popular" she is kind of trying to make everyone's attention go to her... In DG, I think people are laughing because the Wicked Witch of the West (or any witch for that matter) is known to wear a cape with the broom. I know when I saw it I was kind of like, oh she's a witch, have to have the broom.... Anyways that's my two cents!

I basically thought it was funny cause if she's an unelected offical she can do whatever she wants, she makes the rules. No one can impeach her or anything. So it's funny cause she can do pretty much anything she wants, including haboring fugitives.

I'd have to say I agree with NannerboBanner. Nessarose's theory, while it might make sense, is just not funny. If it was meant in the way that Nanner says, it makes much more sense comedically.
