WHat do you think, do you think it will beat Phantom, when Phantom eventually Closes?

Phantom has been on a long time I hope Wicked beats it, but it's gonna take a while, I mean Phantom has to close before Wicked can even start trying to beat it

I say no only because of the reason that Phantom may not be closing for a long long time!

i think it will, i dont think phantom will last longer then a coupl of more years, i dont get why thta show is lating so long?

i hope it will, but Phantom is on Broadway, has a tour, is in several different countries and has a couple different movies. It will take a while for Phantom to close. It would need to be closed for a while before Wicked could come close to passing it.

It's possible. Phantom would have to close for Wicked to beat it though. Which probably could, and will take a long time.

I have very HIGH HOPES for Wicked and in my heart I know it will last a very, very, very, very, very , very long time. :mrgreen:

I have loved Phantom since I read the book many years ago. No other play beat it, until and I saw Wicked. Wicked is my top musical!

Because it's amazing! I don't see it stopping anytime soon.

Fellow Ozians: I think Wicked will be on broadway for 10+ years and beyond. I mean think about it. When u guys have kids you will wan't them to see it too! Wicked never dies. :rock:

i love Wicked! I'm seeing it for my second time on March 5th and might see it in NYC for my 16th birthday!!( April 2007) :-)

All i can say is Miss Saigon lasted 10 Yrs on b'way and it hardly made over 1 mil a week. wicked is making close to 1.6 million a week so i think it will last a long time, wicked is beating out POTO

i dont think PotO is gonna close soon so wicked will have a hard time beating it, im gonna say no.

I think Wicked has surpassed Phantom .....

I'm seeing the matinee because my cousin is coming in from Penn State (about half way across the state) and i think she has a class on Monday at 9 AM, so she has to get back to PSU at a reasonable hour and get to class. i wanted to see Step's last show though. :cry:

Not in a MILLION years. Phantom will go for another 20 years more then likely, it still sells out for EVERY show. Wicked will run another 4 or 5 years at most.

:ha: Yeah right!Wicked is going to begin fizzling down in a year or so when something better comes along. Phantom is a timeless classic, and remains the focus of attention, and has for 18 years. People said Les Mis would outrun Phantom as well. Look how wrong they were.

I don't know... I LOVE Wicked, but I don't think that it has the large base appeal that Phantom has.... But you never know!!! When Phantom closes, perhaps Wicked will have a chance!

ALW stated that he thinks Phantom will run for 10 more years, and I highly doubt that Wicked will get a 30 year run, as cool as that would be.

I hope Wicked does. Wicked appeals to a larger range of ages, while i doubt that an 8 year old would understand POTO. I know my little brother doesn't. My little sister who is 11 even asked questions. I know many people with kids here in Pittsburgh who are still trying to get tickets for Wicked which isn't even here until late Feb. Most people going to POTO here won't take their kids unless they are older than 12.

Wicked is a great show but I see Phantom as more of the "timeless classic of angst and romance", which, cheesy as it sounds, still sells in the billions.

But I see Wicked as more heavily focusing on spectacle, more of the "look at this cool world we've created" and while it's great now and will be for several more years, it'll wear out sooner than Phantom.

well at the rate wicked is goin it will out gross phantoms grossing records, look at the facts wicked broke box office records with 1.6 million 2 weeks ago phantom never did thta, and wicked has grossed 34 million$ , last week alone Wicked grossed 1.3 million where phantom grossed $662,000. I dont know but look at the facts

Wicked is still fairly new compared to Phantom. The fact that people are still going to see Phantom and that it's selling out this many years after is saying something too.

Well let's say that Wicked has always grossed $1 million every week since it's debut 27 months ago and will keep going at that rate for as long as it runs (which it won't). That means that it'll take 60 more years to break Phantom's gross of $3.2 billion. Even assuming that over half of that comes from international productions that Wicked doesn't have just yet, that'll still be longer than Phantom has been around.

wicked will, in my opinion, beat it. It all depends on the casts and how well liked they are and how much intrest is put in by the audence members. I think that when the POTO movie came out it resparked people to see they play again. I feel wicked will do this.

Phantom, to me, is just a hardcore musical that only some people can stomach. Wicked is more light and fluffy but still unreal.

I'm kind of mixed on this... I think if "Wicked" continues with it's popularity, it's got a shot. But Phantom has been around forever, and people love this show. It is one of those big, classic, very theatrical Broadway shows that still blows audiences away. The two are very different in style, but I would personally choose "Wicked" over "Phantom" - although I love them both. I don't see "Phantom" dying out any time soon, but I feel the same way about "Wicked".
I don't know, as a huge theater person, I have a hard time with this one. Haha.

Wicked is a great show that appeals to everyone on a topic thats interesting. Its going to last a really long time.. Ill continue to go as soon as its open!

I really can't say. Wicked and Phantom are both my favorite musicals. Phantom's been going for so long and it doesn't seem to be slowing at all. Wicked has such potential to go for a decade or so. Who knows.
