question....you know how idina and kristin stand infront of the time dragon clock that's in the lobby of the gershwin during most of the song/ until idina flies? how does it just "go away" when idina rises? it's been annoying me for a while and i don't feel like using any brain cells trying to think about it.
moooo with me and idina

im guessing that the black material covers it up when she DEFIES GRAVITY lol

Well I'm assuming that it was a team of great backstage hands that got it offstage very quickly.

that thing is pretty massive. also idina looks to far down stage. the tdc was further upstage. i don't think it went behind. anyone's guess is as good as mine though.
321...Defy Gravity!
Jan 22 2006, 07:45 AM
I think it splits in half and one side goes to the left stage and the other right stage on those tracks on the stage( which makes everything move by itself) !

I was wondering the same thing!

The fabric covers it when she defys gravity. The Levitator is not that far upstage at all. Look at the last shot of the video where you see the whole stage.

Probably the same, it's the same kind of lift they use on Broadway. And on Broadway they have her go as high as the lift will let her, so I would guess it would be the same for the Tonys.

I would *still* be scared to be flying that high w/ just a bar locked around my waist and standing on a tiny platform.

Jan 22 2006, 08:23 PM
are you talking about the tour?
Vari*Wicked
Jan 22 2006, 08:27 PM
in general the lift goes to 20ft i think and then at the end it goes up another few feet
greenified32
Jan 22 2006, 08:46 PM
Actually, I think it goes higher for the Tony's....because the stage is way higher....
And they boosted her up REALLY fast....whew!

Jan 22 2006, 08:58 PM
btw the tdc in the gershwin is not the one on the tonys, look at both o them there completly diff. and on broadway there are things on the floor called tracks that allow pros to roll on and off os stage with out ppl moving them.

Did anyone else notice when the lift suddenly lurched to to left? It happens when we get a shot of the camera looking up behind Kristin....you can see the look on Idina's face when it happens....

Jan 22 2006, 09:03 PM
Yes, and I was amazed that she kept on singing through all that.
Myself, I would be singing a different tune if that happened.

Just goes to show how amazing Idina is....

Jan 22 2006, 10:31 PM
Was Idina sick during the Tony's b/c I thought she sounded terrible?
bybubble
Jan 22 2006, 10:35 PM
lots of controversy over that...i personally think her voice was tired
MPRTamyra
Jan 22 2006, 10:38 PM
That makes sense. I was just so disappointed to see such a good video (quality etc etc) but she sounded so worn.
bybubble
Jan 22 2006, 10:39 PM
yea supposedly her voice was really strained from her run
MPRTamyra
Jan 22 2006, 10:40 PM
Was Kristin still in Wicked at the time of the Tony's? She sounded great (as always)

Jan 22 2006, 10:42 PM
she was leaving in july and the tonys were in june

I still can't believe that Avenue Q beat Wicked for best musical. I was disgusted.
bybubble
Jan 22 2006, 10:45 PM
well at least it won for best lead actress that year
MPRTamyra
Jan 22 2006, 10:46 PM
I wish Kristin would've been nominated for Supporting so they could've BOTH won!
Bwayman417
Jan 22 2006, 10:46 PM
i know!!!! i wish it would have won!! wicked beats avenue q by a million votes from me!!! yeah it stinks about idina..but you have to take into consideration what she was going through. a long run of wicked..if she was sick, then that..plus the pressure of performing at the tony's in front of soooo many people!!!
bybubble
Jan 22 2006, 10:47 PM
thats what i thought at the beginning- that she was just nervous
MPRTamyra
Jan 22 2006, 10:49 PM
That makes sense and all...But she is a trained professional. I would've thought she would've been fine.
bybubble
Jan 22 2006, 10:50 PM
yea i know- i dont know what was wrong- some ppl thought it was her rib but that was before the accident
MPRTamyra
Jan 22 2006, 10:51 PM
Yeah, her rib was way after, I think. Did the girls present an award at the show?? I didn't get to see it live, I just saw the clips from the forum.
Bwayman417
Jan 22 2006, 10:52 PM
yeah oh well. she won the tony and it was still amazing to get to see defying gravity legally shown. :ha:

And the fact that the speakers weren't turned on (or not working, depending on who you talk to)- they couldn't hear the music...

Jan 22 2006, 10:52 PM
ahhh makes sense
MPRTamyra
Jan 22 2006, 10:54 PM
OOOOOOOOOOOH...That makes a lot of sense. Wow. That must've been really difficult for them to pull off then.
Bwayman417
Jan 22 2006, 10:54 PM
really?!?!? i also heard that the orchestra was different and some parts sounded different..maybe that had an influence
bybubble
Jan 22 2006, 10:55 PM
i give them credit
MPRTamyra
Jan 22 2006, 10:57 PM
Was it a live orchestra or recording? Do they also have earpieces to help them b/c it's so loud cause maybe those weren't working too!

Jan 22 2006, 10:58 PM
im not sure how it was working

Jan 22 2006, 11:01 PM
hmmm any techie know how its run at the tonys?
HorribleMorrible
Jan 23 2006, 12:15 AM
Yea, 20-25 ft. Knowing that there's just a bar around your waist and standing on a tiny platform really freaks me out. But I love watching it happen to other people! Such as Idina, Sho, Steph, Ana, Kristy, Eden. The list goes on. :happy1:

Jan 23 2006, 12:37 AM
i guess they get used to it- ugh- it would freak me out

my friend saw the show the night before, she said she didn't sound amazing.
but she said that the tonys sounded worse then the night before, so i'm guessing it was illness.
