Something I've learned about Wicked fans:
YOU CAN'T EVER PLEASE THEM.
It is really ridiculous. We always want "more"...no matter how much they give us. We're lucky we got the first revision to the souvenir book, but now people want another one so quickly after it has been published. We're extremely lucky that the website even updates its pictures, yet we complain when they re-use pictures to save money. We are lucky that we get the chance of a lifetime to see good actors and actresses, but we gripe because this great talent may be transferred to another production so other first-timers get the joy we had the first time we saw this great talent. We always want things "updated", "revised", or even "fired". The list goes on and on.
I am frankly revolted by what I see posted here sometimes. No gratitude whatsoever. I don't know whether its the selfishness of our own greedy desires, or if sometimes we think we own Wicked. We are just fans. NOTHING more.
I'm as guilty of this stuff as anyone, but I think it's time for a change.

Well, that's just human nature. We are never happy. When you're hot, you want to be cold. When you're cold, you want to be hot. When were alone, we wish we had company. When we have company, we wish we were alone. It's just how we are.

I am 1000% (x a lot more 0's) guilty. But it is honestly not just Wicked fans. It is the human race in general. We can't just settle...we always want more or better. Things will never change, IMO.

I completely agree with your statement. There is a constant demand for more, and it does get annoying to read the same types of things over and over. We should be very lucky for all the things Wicked has done. Going back to the websites, I mean come on! We have like 10 different websites! LOL. And the pictures are different on each one! Most shows hardly ever update their picks, and just ones from the OBC.

Gee, I never go check thew pics unless I'm told about it, and can NEVER notice photoshopping! And since I've never seen it, I don't give who's in it...

PLEASE don't pigeon hole all wicked fans like that. Because I know for CERTAIN I do not fall under those stereotypes listed above. :verymad:

^ He didn't say ALL Wicked fans. He's not really singling out a particular group or EVERYONE, so I really don't think he's pidgeonholing anyone.
I think you're definitely RIGHT. And it IS most of us. I think it's totally true. And much more true of certain groups I've met than others (but I don't want to insult/discriminate here, so I won't go into it). Sufficed to say, there are some people I know of that have gone to see it 30+ times w/ good seats and can still find something to complain about that they didn't get.

I agree too. I don't think I've ever *think*... no I haven't ever taken for granted what Wicked gives us. I know you're talking ingeneral about fans, though, so it's good:D I've seen it a lot on sites and other show forms. Ingeneral, I don't understand why people can't be happy they have what they have. It is in human nature to just want more, more, more! I hear things here and on other sites about why something isn't good enough, or this person shouldn't play the part, or she needs to do this, etc. I never knew that fans knew so much! It bothers me to no end b/c I study music and know a lot more about it then just your average person/fan. I know there are others like me out there and I get annoyed too when people say things. I don't think many understand how much work is done behind the scenes to make things happen. My family member Diana was a crew member in the OBC of Wicked. She worked with Idina vocally, coreographed, managed, etc. She told me a lot about it and I even gained more respect for it all. It drives me nuts. Sometimes I've wanted to say (to people ingeneral on many things) "Ökay, then if you're sdo smart, you go and do that. Then report back to me and tell me how you did."

i agree with most of that. but i dont think it is that wicked fans are never pleased, but i think it is that we get relly over enthusiastic and excited about somethings. and yes, we do keep asking for more. but that is just how humans work. we admire these people so much that it makes it hard not to want more and more. but i do agree that we should tone it down a bit.

I think it's because, yes, it is human nature.
We share a deep connection with this show. This show has touched us, and so we feel like the show is part of us, in a way.
That love is transferred to the wonderful people who perform the show in seven cities each night. We grow attached. Too attached? Maybe. Probably. Yes. (See Eden's last)
I think SOME people take it way too overboard. (Not here specifically) The actors have lives outside of the bubble or the green makeup. It's a bit scary.
But then I remember it's just another sign that this show is something special.

I agree, even though it does not apply to me. It annoys me the most when people complain about the actors/actresses. "I'm not going anymore because I don't like so-and-so anymore" etc. I'd like to see them do better in the role 8 times a week!

I am honestly getting really sick of most WICKED fans. Their so ignorant! (Luckly this site is filled with people who actually have brains) but god, you cant go on youtube without reading some rude comment about a Elphaba (Poor Idina takes most of the blunt) and they also are EXTREMELY rude. Everytime I SD someone is just so ugh RUDE. I'm sorry thats how I feel, thats why I love this message board cuz most people on here are nice and open minded

Yeah, but people go after other Elphabas because they are the best and they want other people to recognize their elphaba. People are jealous of all the attention that people like Idina, Eden, Megan, and Kristin get, so you're always going to have Haters.

ta-daaaa... i think you found the link there. i have to say, i'm new to all this (wicked, fandom, the broadway world in general), and i have been a little taken aback by just how much time and energy people put into this. i think a lot of it is that a live performance is just that... live, living, changing. SO different and more powerful than being obsessed with a movie, tv show, band etc. it has a life all its own.
it's also interesting, because places like this are what feed that monster. i mean, if there wasn't a site like this, I would have seen wicked, loved it, listened to the soundtrack a lot, perhaps checked the official website occasionally and... moved on. and yet here i am, reading and posting while i should be finishing up work and going to sleep.

i think there's a sense in which it's easy to feel like you have the authority to pass judgment and speak in "facts" instead of opinion because you think/read/post about the show a lot. sure you can learn more about it that way, but that only goes so far.
plus it's hard when everything is online - it's SO much easier to be mean and judgmental in cyberspace and for the meanings of messages to get lost in translation. it's part of the online culture - i think many of us would hesitate to say some things to each other in person that we'll gladly post away on here.

In general, they're good. It's just that when they see it so many times they start to nit-pick at everything. And forget what i's like for everybody else who's watching it for the first time. They just need a reality check every know and then.

A better question is whats wrong with you? Just because certian people dont like reycling or want the pictures to be updated doesn't make them bad or selfish. I personally LOVE recycling. Taking new pictures does save money but not that much...besides wicked is NOT concerned about money. The main reason why they dont always take new pictures is the actors schedules. They have to come on there day off. If you were a true fan of the show you would not call out all its fans in one statment that is not entirely true. But you know what i can't understand for the life of me, why you would post this false statment on a Wicked fan website.
