I'm in NY for my first time *ever* for my 16th birthday, and of course, seeing shows! I saw Legally Blonde last night (so funny, highly recommend it), I just got back from the Wicked matinee, Spring Awakening in two hours, and Rent tommorrow! It's a truly awesome birthday weekend.

I'll post a review later, maybe monday, but the show was just amazing! Julia is *so* good, and it was a ton of fun!

^ Awesome! Glad you're having a great time! I want to see Legally Blonde so bad.

Did you SD?
holymeganhilty
Yeah did you SD?

And lucky you saw Legally Blonde!
DareToDefy
I did SD, but only Cristy and Julia came out. Julia was so sweet (and pretty green) lol.

Yea, Legally Blonde was awesome!

My review's still comming... eventually. We're just leaving to see the Statue of Liberty!

AHH!
I saw the Wicked matinee on june 9th too!! Julia was compleatly amazing! did you go to the stage door?!
DareToDefy
^^Cool! Julia was awesome! I did SD, I was near the end, wearing a green skirt and I have red hair. Are you going to write a review? I'd love to read your opinion of the performance!
NY is a crazy city, but it was really fun to be some where so different!

So to get that review started...

This was my first time seeing Wicked on Broadway, so after seeing the Chicago cast seven times, I know I’m pretty biased. There were no understudies, which was really exciting because I always see understudies. We had amazing seats- fifth row and dead center. The Gershwin isn’t as pretty of a theater and the Oriental, but the set is bigger and more interesting. It was overall a great performance, and it was really fun to see an entirely different production!

NOMTW: The ensemble was really great, but Kendra seemed a little out of it in the beginning. She has a really pretty voice, but she kind of looked like she didn’t want to be there. I started an entrance applause for her. ^^

DOS: Julia really looks the part of Elphaba- she has an angular face and kind of an awkward beauty, you know? I was excited to see her and started her entrance applause, too. Jane Houdyshell was good as Morrible- she definately looks the part! She has a good voice, no complaints. Cristy adds a really sweet personality to Nessa, her performance kind of reminded me of Summer Smart from Chicago.

WAI: WOW! Julia is just amazing! Her voice is so pretty and pure- and incredibly powerful. She nailed the acting and the singing, and is just all-around awesome.

WITF: I think this was the best WITF I’ve seen! Julia and Kendra have great chemistry, and work so well together! They did a lot of different things I hadn’t seen in Chicago, like Kendra holds her compact mirror up to Julia’s face and Julia jumps back, angry. So funny! After “Blonde!” Julia did this gesture with her hands and whispered something along the lines of “What’s up with this?!” it was so funny!

SB: I've seen Steven Skybell as Dillamond in Chicago, and I like him. His bleat seemed a little off, but I like his portrayal. I watched Brad Bass from Chicago during this scene- I miss him as Fiyero! It was kind of fun to see him on Broadway, though.

DTL: Sebastian was good, but he's not my favorite Fiyero. He has a good singing voice, but his acting and dancing weren't as good as I've seen. I absolutely love the new choreography with the books and such! I think it adds so much to the scene! Logan was really good as Boq. He has kind of a whiny voice, but it really adds to Boq's geekiness (if that's a word) Cristy has a really pretty singing voice. Julia's dance was so jerky and spastic that it was more funny than sad, but she made it work.

More comming later!

Kendra held the compact up to Julia when I saw it too!
Hey during DTL, did Kendra lay her head on Sebastians shoulder?
i thought it was so cute. You guys know me, I was like jumping up and down in my seat :lol1:

Julia really looks the part of Elphaba- she has an angular face and kind of an awkward beauty, you know?

That's how I always describe her!

Awesome review, so far.

I always was looking for a way to describe Julia like that, and now my long journey is over. Thank you so much. That is a perfect way to say it.

You're welcome... :ha:

Ok, more review!

POPULAR: Kendra wasn’t as spastic as I expected from what others have said, but she still made this scene really fun. The secret sharing scene was really sweet, and Kendra did her “Poof!” *dancing fingers* thing, which was pretty funny. Julia acted really confused throughout the scene, more than most Elphabas. After “I know clandestinely…” Kendra went “Sparkles!” *more dance fingers* I wasn’t expecting that, it was so funny!

INTG: Wow, Julia has such a pretty voice! Her low range is gorgeous, and this song was just amazing. Her acting was perfect, her singing was beautiful… I don’t know what to say but Wow! I think this was the best song of the performance.

OSD: There was a ton of energy in this song from the entire cast! When the Hammerheads (that’s what they’re called in Baum’s The Wizard of Oz) extended their heads, two of them clonked together! Nothing major happened, but it was kind of funny.

SM: I’m way too big of a Gene fan to judge any other Wizard. David does have a great singing voice, and he delivered a lot of his lines with more comedy, but I will always favor Gene.

DG: It’s cool how they enter the attic through a trapdoor in the stage, in Chicago they just run in from the side. But I like how Elphaba’s broom comes flying in better, it has more of an effect. The lift is really slow, haha. Julia. Is. Amazing. She nailed this song! She’s a total powerhouse, I don’t know what else to say. She got a huge applause at the end, and had the whole theater in a trance.

During intermission, I grabbed a bunch of streamers from NOMTW off the ground. I've always wanted to catch one, so I stole a bunch from the isles. They're currently hanging off the fan in my room.

TG: Kendra has the perfect voice for this song! She sang it really well- I actually enjoyed the song (I usually get bored with it) Sebastian didn't do the greatest acting job. He was kind of like "whatever" the whole scene.

WWOTE: Cristy did this song really different than I've seen. She was happy and excited and hopeful right up to the end. I kind of like her take, but I think it makes more sense for Nessa to be bitter than happy. She has a beautiful voice, and sang the song wonderfully.
Wiz O' Oz
I love your review! I can't wait to see Julia and Kendra!
Hiltosa
hahaha, i didnt know they clunked heads in OSD! i wish i was that! i kept looking at my arms the during the whole song cuz i looked green cuz we were so close to the stage. i was like.... omg, im radioactive looking! great review so far. i'd do one too but i dont have a lot of time...and i agree with like, everything you're saying too! lol.
DareToDefy
^^That's pretty funny. I would totally spaz if I looked green :ha:

Wonderful: I definitely like the old Wonderful better, I think the order made more sense. David was fine, he did the song well, but I know I’m really biased when it comes to the Wizard.

INTG ®: Kendra didn’t seem very emotional- she sang the song well, but her acting wasn’t as heartbroken as I’ve seen.

ALAYM: Julia and Sebastian both have amazing voices, and they blended so well! This was a really pretty song. However, their chemistry didn’t seem so strong- they were hardly touching each other throughout the song, and then when Sebastian went for a kiss at the end, Julia pulled away to say her “I’m feeling wicked!” line, which she did really well, but it kind of broke the mood.

CATFIGHT SCENE: Julia and Kendra were totally in each other’s faces! Julia’s “We all can’t come and go by bubble” was great- really intense and perfectly timed. Kendra’s pretty good at twirling that wand!
NGD: Julia was really intense and passionate, but I’m always going to be a fan of Dee’s NGD. She did a really good job with the emotion, and sang the song wonderfully.

MOTWH: It seemed like there were more people on stage during this song than in Chicago, and it looked better. Jane’s speech was REALLY harsh, but totally worked with the scene.

FG: Julia and Kendra’s voices blend together so nicely, the song was gorgeous. They didn’t get very emotional- except for their hug at the end, they didn’t really touch each other or do anything to make the song extra sweet. But they still did a good job, and this song always makes me teary. *sniff*

FINALE: I started clapping for Julia when she came out of the trapdoor. I don’t know why, I was just extra happy that she didn’t melt, or something. Haha. This song’s always so sad- it means Wicked is over!

Curtain Call: Nobody really got the idea of a standing ovation until Kendra and Julia came out…

SD: We had no idea where the sd was, and we turned the wrong way out of the theater, but we found it just as Cristy came out. She was nice, but kind of seemed like she was in a rush. Someone was doing video interviews at the sd (they were doing them at Legally Blonde, too) but they only asked little kids to talk. Anybody know what that’s for? After a while, Cristy returned with a ton of food, probably for a bunch of the cast. We waited awhile, and Juila came out. She was really sweet and REALLY green still. It was in her hair, her eyes, her hands… haha. She was really nice, and she wished me a happy birthday! I was kind of sad that nobody else came out, but I was glad that Julia came out!

So it was a really great show, and it was a ton of fun to see an entirely different production!
