For sure not. Might've been original, but Wicked is WAY better. No contest.

Wicked's a lot of hype. [Not that I don't love it.] And it's doing perfectly alright without a Tony...the Tony helped Avenue Q. Plus it's a cute little show, and HILARIOUS.

They are both great in their own ways!
I wouldn't see Avenue Q over and over again though.
But I like them both

I've seen BOTH OBC Live...
And all I have to say is that the judges panel (or whoever deciedes) must have had one heck of a time deciding who gets the Tony.
Really, and I am a HUGE Wicked fan. HUGE. HUGE. But, I saw how creative, ingenious, and innovative Avenue Q was. It was something Broadway had never seen before.
Granted, Wicked is fantastic in it's own right, I must say that Avenue Q was so fun to watch.
Although I was dissapointed that Q won over Wicked, I can certainly understand why. Those of you have only heard the soundtrack have only gotten a little taste of how amazing that show was.

The critics didn't want WICKED to win the Tony was becasue it was based on too much politics and animal rights instead of making the audiance laugh 100 percent of the time. They ALSO say that it is a stupid way for Elphaba to become the Wicked Witch of the West.
BUT as a WICKED FANATIC, I can't help but flip them the bird and go see it more than 200,000 times because it's a smash box office hit. It's been THE #1 show in over 3 months.

:agree:
Avenue Q's problem is that in a couple of years it's dated to the time period, whereas Wicked works/will work throughout many generations.

i've seen a boot of av q (shhhhhh) and i loved it, even though i wish wicked would have won, q is a good show...very funny. boots don't usually make me laugh, especially if i'm just looking at my computer screen, i'm the only one in the room, and it's just ok quality...but i actually did laugh.

Absolutely. I love Wicked, but is the run-of-the-mill temporary smash, and it is ALL spectacle. The music isn't all that great, but it has a tremendous story. I wish it had been a dialogue play.
Avenue Q is amazing. See it. NOW!

I think they were both amazing! however i do think that wicked should have won the tony! i am still alittle angry about it becasue although i loved it i would probably not go back and see avenue Q again where as i have seen wicked to many times to count but i guess i can kind of see why they chose it but i would rather have seen wicked snag that tony!

I think Ave. Q and Wicked are both wonderful, imaginative, and well done shows. However, I feel Ave. Q is more of a show for this time period - and in 50 years or so, people would be like, "I DON'T GET THE JOKE." However, with Wicked, I think it's more of a long lasting show that in 50 years people will still be able to understand and enjoy (look at The Wizard of Oz). So because of that, I don't think Ave. Q should've won.

i have not seen Q LIVE....but i have seen it (( :ha: :ha: )) and i must say while the music is VERY FUNNY AND GOOD, i think the puppets get a little annoying after awhile, while a green witch and a blonde witch slapping eachother never gets old :ha:

I like them both, but I think Wicked probably should have gotten the Tony. After all Ave.Q only won like 100 awards that night you'd think they could have shared. :ha: Both shows are good but I see Wicked being around longer.I always joke that it will be the longest running show that never won the Tony.

From the music I've heard I wish that Wicked would have won. I mean I hoped that Wicked would win because I like the music a lot better. I haven't seen Ave Q but like I said before the music just didn't impress me. I also agree with every one that said that Ave Q will be out dated in a couple of years and Wicked won't. Just think, maybe Wicked will beat out Phantom... :ha:

I haven't seen both so I'm not voting, but I think Wicked should have gotten it. Avenue Q might be cute and funny, but not Tony material. That would be like giving Team America an Academy Award. :?

I admit that Avenue Q got a lot of brownie points w/ me after I heard it
Avenue Q is a work of genius. The lyrics are witty and the music is pretty darn infectious. It's a unique concept that Broadway has never seen. I think it deserved the Tony.
Over Wicked? Not necessarily. I think Wicked definitely deserved the Tony as well. I really couldn't choose between the two. In the long run, it didn't hurt Wicked to lose the Tony. It's STILL going strong and right now the franchise is booming and will continue to thrive for quite a while.
But I do think John Tartaglia deserved the award for best actor in a musical.

Things have tied for awards before, I think it would have been better to just have a tie. What one musical lacks the other doesnt. you know what would be funny, wicked done like ave q. morrible puppet... :ha:
