I don't understand why everyone loves Nessa. ok i havent legally seen the show but from what i have seen and heard (off my cd) she is a really annoying character. she really rubs me the wrong way and i really dislike her. This is not in any way a reflection of the performer or anything i just really don't like her. She seems very self centered and me me me. She's always talking about how Elphie always ruins things for HER. can she not think of how hard it would be to be Elphie? Yes its sad she's in a wheelchair but i mean come on whats harder not being able to walk but still socially acceptable or being GREEN?
*pants* sorry just my little rant. is there something lost in translation that i don't get? someone please explain to me why the character is so (scuse the pun) popular!

I like the character Nessa, and she's not that all annoying. It's who plays her that is annoying- Michelle Fed...what's her name is the single-worst former actor in Wicked...besides Rue...

she is left to deal with all these problems ALONE, she is also very deep, if u look past speaking line and songs. She's a really awesome character, but gets ignored alot because Glinda and Elphaba are the stars.

Well, Nessa's a hard character, and its such a small part for the so many layers and complications she has. There's not really enough stage time to show all of Nessa's feelings and hardships, because she does have some. She struggles with being independant, and not really knowing how to handle herself without any help because there's always someone there for her. She was raised that way...you can't really blame someone who knows no better.

OMG you did not just dis Michelle, the best actress ever to be in wicked! :argue: She's not annoying at all, she is sweet and loveable, and makes me love Nessarose even more.

The thing is, there is so much more to the character that you do not see (or hear) on the album. After seeing the show you see that there is so much more to her then what is in Dancing Through Life.

Michelle is an awesome Nessa and actress in my opinion.

I like Nessa but i don't love her. She bugs me a little, maybe because of how selfish I think she is. I love Elphaba because she is selfless.

I have to admit, I didn't really like the character at first. But once I became more familiar with the show, (and read the book!) she just made so much more sense. And they really don't give her enough in the show versus the way Gregory Maguire did - but then again, Fiyero is a much smaller part in the show than the book, too. The focus is on Elphaba and Glinda, and unfortunately the other characters don't get as much of a storyline because of it. There's only so much they can do with a 2 1/2 hour show!
That's ok though, because I love them anyway! :bow:

Nessa is selfish because she is alone and hurt, no one loves her. How would u feel u you had her life? She only took the munchkins right as a desperate attempt to keep the boy she loves with her. Wanting a better life, when your life is miserable isn't really selfish.

I :heart: Nessa! At first she's this crippled, abandonded, Shiz student girl and within 5 years (or so) she becomes this triumphant witch of the east. She's all powerful over muchkinland. So much stuff happens in her life and then guess what happens. She gets a house dropped on her by :dorothy:

the OBCR does NOT do nessa justice!!!! she does sound kinda annoying on the soundtrack but i love her in the show

watching her be able to walk and think that boq will finally love her and then seeing her heart break all over again when he says he still loves glinda....it's very sad and heartbreaking

Obviously it's different in the book and the show, but I think if you've read the book and know some of the deeper backstory then her character in the show makes -much- more sense.

I don't agree with you saying her life is the worst. She is doted on by her father where as Elphaba is ignored. Elphaba has to look after her. Elphaba alsao has to deal with being green. Nessa doesn't look past the fact that she can't walk. Elphaba's father also dies. She thinks its her fault that Nessa is the way she is. She also has to part with her best friend and deal with the whole Glinda issues. She is made out to be the bad guy cos she was standing up for what she beleived in. And of course Boq doesn't love Nessa. You can't force someone to love you. That makes them dislike you even more.
Maybe i really just have to see the show and read the book.
Please don't get mad at me. i'm just expressing my opinion (however wrong you think it may be)

There is no happy ending for Nessarose :cry: and there so many lines in the musical that make you want to side with her, like the train station, Boq admits he doesn't love her and she blames herself "no he's the one it's me that's not right" and no one even goes to comfort her after that.

I totally agree. I'm not anti-Elphaba or anything but Nessa is so overlooked and misjudged. People should really look into the character and learn more about her before they judge her.

Not saying that anyone is judging her though.

I love how in wwote, when Nessarose is with Boq, Michelle goes from extreme happiness, to almost in tears. I felt so bad because she thinks her life is gonna be great now that she can walk but it only makes Boq want to leave her more.

Thanks people! i still don't understand the attraction but maybe it will come after reading the book. Thanks for not getting grumpy with me either. I've got in trouble on other boards just for expressing an opinion and people got quite rude so i was a little scared at posting knowing that people really liked her.

Well i actually agree with that. But if you can take a few dozen lines, a few mins of singing and make your part get noticed and loved you are amazing. I think Michelle qualifies.

I love Michelle as well as her Nessa. Well, if you look at the actual SCENES in the show, Nessa gets one of the best from an acting stand point. In WWOTE she goes from confused, to mad, to insanely happy, to dissapointed, to slowly getting more insane, to psychotic, to regretful. All in six minutes! Lol. Plus, she gets to sing while doing it. And its not easy to REALLY deliver a character like Michelle did and be in a chair for 95% of it.
