OK, fine people, here's the deal:
My mother and I plan to go up to NYC for the week of June 26th. We're planning our trip around two things: Steph's show and, of course, Wicked. We're going to see Steph on the 27th, but as for Wicked--that's up to you!
When should I go see Wicked? I don't really want to go to a matinee, because I figure if anyone in the cast will miss a show, it'll be a matinee and not the evening performance. So when should I go? What days are best for the Wicked on Broadway experience? Right now Friday the 29th seems good to me, so I was wondering if anyone had experience seeing Wicked on a Friday.
Also, where should I sit? I know virtually nothing about seating at the Gershwin except what the seating chart tells me. Right now I'm looking at the Ticketmaster website and it's offered me two seats in row K of the orchestra, left of center stage. Now what on Earth does that mean? Are they good seats, and should I buy them?
This is where you tell me where to sit!
As much as I've love to win the lottery and sit front row, that probably will never happen (I have bad luck). However, I'm not totally averse to splurging and sitting as close as I can--so that would mean spending at least $200. But since I need to keep a tight fist on my money, please dissuade me from spending a lot of money for front row seats when I'd be perfectly happy sitting in the mezzanine!
I am counting on YOU, experienced Gershwiners, to help!

Any seat is good there! Try to get in the middle. Go to an evening performance!

Ok, definitely an evening performance, i'd say Saturday, just because there always seems to be more energy on these nights and generally most of the leads are on. But, it's probably also harder to get tickets on a Saturday, so you're Friday idea is a good one! Plus, start of the weekend so I guess there's some good crowd atmosphere going on!
First time I went we sat towards the middle of the stalls (around row N, I think), on the right hand side, and although we were over to the right they were still amazing seats. The Gerswin has a great layout of seats, as in, it seems no matter where you're sat you get a good view. The second time we went we splashed out on the expensive $300 each tickets, because that was the only option we had a day before flying out, but it was the best money we spent! We got central stalls, row E. They really were phenomenal seats. You were close enough to see all the cast interaction and facial expressions (which is so important during scenes like For good) but you're far enough back to see the whole of the stage and get a good view of everything that's going on, which is good in defying gravity!
I'd say anything from row AA (or whatever is front row) to row N and you could be classed as close. Or front row Mezz, I love those seats. Central is obviously better, but not always attainable, so off center is definitely tolerable.
And i'm going to shut up now because I have started to ramble....

OH OH OH--I forgot one very important thing: I AM SHORT. Like, very, so sometimes I have problems seeing over ladies with big hair. In most theaters I have a bit of trouble if I sit closer to the stage, but from what I've seen of the Gershwin, seeing over ladies with big hair isn't that difficult.
So there's another part to my question: if you are short like I am, tell me where you sat and if you had trouble seeing!
And thanks, Cinderella!

never been to the gersh but from what i've heard there isn't a bad seat in the house...so your seats will be awesome no matter where they are

the first time i saw wicked
i sat orchestra seats row x, seat 36
this was like back row orchestra
not worth the money...
try to get balcony seats cause i feel thats a better effect for "defying gravity".. at least from my experiences... but also, its a great effect looking UP as well.. so whichever one is avaliable or not..
if you're short,
then definitely try to get front row balcony seats..
im relatively tall person and i still had trouble seeing everything cause i ended up being behind a tall man... theres no guarantees on who will be in front unless you're sure you got first row on balcony seats..

I was thinking about stagedooring, but I've already met Derrick and I'm pretty sure Carol won't come out, and those are the only people I really am interested in meeting... just to tell them how happy I'll be to see them twice and ladidah. I'd really really love to meet Eden and Hilty, of course, but I'm too small and meek a person to face the wrath of the fangirls. So yeaaah... maybe I'll just send a SASE and ask for a picture.
OOOOOO! We should definitely coordinate outfits or something so we'll be able to recognize each other. We could have a little Witches of Oz delegation!

I've seen Wicked in the Gersh five times, and 3 times have been in the front orchestra, once from lotto seats, and once in the last row of the orchestra - which was so not worth it. You can't see all of Glinda in her bubble until she comes farther down, the dragon, things like that. Row K would be good seats, I think, but if you don't want to spend the money, the mezzanine would work too. And you CAN see everything from up there. Plus, the DG effects looks so much better from farther back.

I think it's not so much that it's tiny as that the stage is so huge... when I say it's the biggest I meant the seating capacity, which is usually what I'm most concerned about (my job down here is putting butts in the seats). Plus Idina and Kristin have remarked many times on the size of the Gershwin. I'd agree with people who performed there every night.
Mmm... OK, now I'm lovin' the idea of front mezzanine. Since I'm buying the tickets, it's really my responsibility to guarantee that my guests and I can see. I'm not concerned about the money--I'm most concerned about comfort and seeing everything and ladidah.
So... I'm gonna browse around Telecharge and see what pops up! Keep the feedback comin', though! Tell me where you--yes YOU--sat, if you could see, if you had any problems hearing anything.

Get as close as you can on the front mezz. I sat there and it was awesome! You could see EVERYTHING!! And I was dead center.

I'm pretty sure I'll be dead center in row X or N (orchestra). I don't remember though.

i sat second to last row, lol. it was the equivalent to 5th or 6th row at the fox theatre in st. louis. the gershwin has like 1,800 seats or something. the fox has nearly 5,000 i think. it's giant!

I say try to see it during the week- less people at the stage door. I sat in row C, center left, 2nd seat in. They were amazing! my little sister who is 11(she is really short for 11) was lucky and we had 2 girls sitting infront of us about 13 years old. Most of the seats are really good! Stage Door is really fun, do it! Have fun!

i had orchestra center stage seat 108/109 row a (row 6) now they were premium seats ($250 each) but soooooo worth the money. if you have the money to spend it's the way to go. it was a wednesday 2pm show. no one was waiting at the stage door. but don't forget about the behind the scene tour on saturday mornings.

JUNE 27th! At Birdland. She's having her one-woman show on June 26th and 27th, so... bump up your trip by a week, LOL.
I made the reservations yesterday! ::dances::
Ok, thanks everyone for your suggestions. Today or tomorrow I shall buy the tickets, hopefully in the first row of the front mezzanine if I can. Do y'all recommend Telecharge or another website?

OK, I'm bumping this thread because my plans have changed:
We are flying in on the 26th and leaving on the 29th, and right now I'm looking at the Wednesday night show. Has anyone gone on a Wednesday night that could tell me if it's a good day to see the leads or to stagedoor? As for seats, I found some fairly cheap tickets for row G of the mid-mezzanine. Problem is, I don't even know if there IS a mid-mezzanine in the Gersh--I just assume it's row G of the front mezz, but the seating chart is very vague. Anyway, if anyone has any advice, please let me know!

Hooooot... and all of the principals were there? I really wouldn't mind seeing Brandi or Saycon (if she's still there) but I have my hopes up for Eden. I have NO IDEA if Megan's extending or not, so I'll brace myself for her not being there...

Well, when I saw the show, it was JLT & Shoshana, and yes, they were both on and came out after the show.

I don't remember if David came out or not...I really didn't pay much attention to anyone besides a hello to Megan Hilty because I was only there to see JLT.
