I'm sorry if there was already another thread on this but has anyone noticed that on the soundtrack during Dancing Through Life Norbert says..'We can dance till it lights' Not...'We can dance till its light." not a huge mistake but I was just wondering if anyone else noticed that.
missyrose87
oh my gosh that has always bugged me! also, does anyone else hear the phone ringing in the background of popular?
ForGood
Cast recording, not soundtrack. :-) But yes, I noticed that.

I think in in the begining, you have to listen really closely(and you have to listen to it like,234 times )but, that's just me. hope that'll answer your question.
Ohh and about the thing about DTL yes I have.
gncurrier
As soon as I read it, I checked, and it does! Weird, never heard it before now.
Chenofied
Wow I never noticed that.
DefyingGravity1991

Did you just get the c.d.?because when I got it in December I didn't notice it but then in feburary (after listening to the c.d. for about 100 times) I started noticeing it, listen really carefully and you can here it.
I hope that answers your question.

Haha, I noticed the "phone ringing" in Popular the first time I heard it. It sounds kind of like a Nextel phone ring if any of you know what that sounds like.

I'm pretty sure that the phone ring does not develop after an amount of time on a CD. Either it's there or it's not.
elphabafanatic15
interesting, I've never noticed the phone. I know about the lights and that bugs me, but I'll have to listen hard in popular.

Edit: I just listened to it and thats definitely part of the percussion.
missyrose87
No its not part of the percussion. I asked the original conductor and he said nothing like that was written for any part, and that it was a phone.
wicked drummergirl
Are you referring to the organ sounding thingy? If not, please tell..

I didn't really hear anything that didn't fit the arrangement. That doesn't mean that it was written like that, but things do happen even if you're a professional musician. It could be a case of ad lib or a simply mistake. If it is a mobile I have to say that it's very convenient that it's in the right time and the right key.
Robbie
Its part of the orchestration. I listened to it at least ten times and then asked a musician friend of mine to listen. He said it fits too perfectly (key, placing, etc.) to be there on accident.

lol yeah thats what i thought that it sounded like a nextel ring.

The phone ringing in Popular sometimes makes me annoyed. Because whenever I hear it I always think it's my house phone ringing so I have to pause my IPod and listen for a sec. to make sure it's not my phone.

Are you serious? It's THAT noticeable? I haven't even heard it yet and I've been trying to hear it since this rumor came about when the CD was release in 2003.
a little perky
I noticed that about Dancing Through Life and i thought it was odd and new it was a small mistake but nothing to get freaked out about.

About the phone ringing during Popular, I noticed that immediately when I heard the song. At first I thought it was part of the music but after listening even more it really sounds like a phone ring and that part annoys me a little. (if its supposed to be there or not, but it seems like it shouldn't...) :ha:
xalexx543x
I just listened to it. There is not phone ringing... its a synthesizer !!
I Couldn't Be Happier
Don't you think they did about 30-40 takes to get the soubdtrack just right. Why would they leave a phone ringing in there?
holymeganhilty
Its definitely not an accident. It was put in for a reason to make a certain sound. I noticed it when iI first started listening to the Cast Recording on my Ipod and itunes but now it just has gotten to be part of the song.

Haha the thing in Dancing Through Life has always bugged me too lol.
Changed For Good
Well I had never really noticed the DTL part as being a mistake but after relistening to it I see what you mean!! haha
Oh and I Do Not hear a cell phone in popular!! Could someone tell me the exact spot because two people said different spots yet I didnt hear it in any of them!!
AsLongAsI'mYours
The DTL thing makes me love Norbert even more.
Rue McClanahan
When in popular, if you've heard it?
I Fly Solo
I've heard the ringing in Popular to...like when I first listened to it. Then listing to it live...It's suppose to be there because both times I saw it live the ringing was exactly at the right time on the original recording. SO it's and intended ringing (that convieniantly sounds like a nextel phone...)I guess...

Why do we call it a original recording as opposed to original soundtrack?
GlindatheGoodx3
Haha Norbet doe say that haha I never noticed that lol
LilyLovesKendra
hehe that's funny. i've never noticed that either!
elphabafanatic15
I just saw it live last week, and I can tell you that a ringing at the exact same spot was apparent. It's not a cell phone, it's just a sound that they put in to make it more like a "music box"

(I Fly Solo)
Why do we call it a original recording as opposed to original soundtrack?

It's called a cast recording. Soundtracks are from movies. Cast recordings are from Broadway. For example, the Hairspray CD from with Nikki Blonsky and John Travolta is a soundtrack. The Hairspray CD with Marissa Jaret Winokur is a cast recording.

No I have had the CD for a very long time; It's just that I have never noticed it, lol.
JustForThisMoment
The Popular "phone ringing" happens at approximately 1:34-1:35, right at the transition, just as she says "frank" in "frank analysis". It's not terribly noticeable, for me at least (though it certainly will be now, thanks to you lot! :ha:)

And, if you'll notice, it only rings in your left ear bud, if you're listening to it on an iPod. Also, you can hear more of the plinky "ringing" at around 1:40-1:41, when she's singing "now that I've chosen to become a pal, a sister, an advisor".

And about the Dancing Through Life thing...to me, he just says, "We can dance till it's lightttt", really pronouncing his "T" on the end of "light" with a sort of "s" emphasis on the end of of it, like the "-ce" in "dance". Weird, but nothing could make me stop loving Norbert's voice!!!

No its not part of the percussion. I asked the original conductor and he said nothing like that was written for any part, and that it was a phone.

It's hard to believe that anyone would bring a cell phone into the studio and leave it on. It's one thing to hear a conductor flip the page of his score, or someone in the ensemble coughing quietly, but cell phone? It's not like they're at some random place recording the show. It's definitely not a cell phone. Also, most of the times, because it is a one-time recording, a lot of the shows hire extra musicians for the orchestra. So it could have been just for the cast recording, and not in the show's score.
Changed For Good
^^ Ya really!! hehe

And I have wanted to say this about the DTL one for a couple days and now that the boards are up and working again I thought I would now! Ok so Fiyero says and dance till it lights. Well what if he meant that it becomes light outside and the "it" is refering to outside! Like the sun coming up? I dont know though, just throwing it out there!!
GlindatheGoodx3
I don't really hear him say it lights. he kind of rushing during that part.
