Okay, I've been wondering...how much time passes during Wicked?
I know in the beginning, Glinda says she and Elphaba knew each other "a very long time ago."
The only actual concept of time I could find was when they're singing about the lion, and they say something like, "if he had fought his own battles when he was young, he wouldn't be a coward today." So, that's the cub that Elphie sets free...and towards the end he apparently is no longer a cub...so SOME time has passed...Hmmm
Any thoughts?

No fair making me think tonight. :ha:
Must agree though, I can't think of anything that is a more accurate measurement of time passing than the Cowardly Lion.
My guess is 18 years from Glinda and Elphie's first appearance at Shiz to their last meeting in the castle. Don't know how accurate that is, just a guess.

It's like 2 years, Jenna says that in the Grimmerie.

I get all confusified because they are so young in the show and so old in THE WIZARD OF OZ.... and it just confuses me! HAHA... although I know it's supposed to be a prequel and it's almost like unrelated... and now I'm just babbling....

I'll just take Jenna's word for it and say 2 years.

straight from Jenna Leigh Green page 48 of the Grimmerie- "Between Acts I and II, about 2 years have passed. Nessarose is only 20 years old....."

It's only 3 months? Is there a line of dialouge that says that?

Jenna said in the Grimmerie that it was 2 years. I always thought it was more. Because Fiyero and Glinda probably went on with their lives and then got that jobs that they had in act 2. Unless they were specificly asked to be Glinda the Good and Captain of The Guard. But I will take Jenna's word...

I always thought it was kinda up to the audience to decide how much time passes. Especially in the Shiz scenes its like there's a lot that isn't being shown. After all, when you think about it, we only get to see two days at Shiz University. and thats a little weird considering we're supposed to think that Elphie and Galinda have gone from loathing each other to being the best of friends. how could that (along with all the other dramatic events at Shiz) happen in the course of only two days? my theory is that its like a movie. it skips a lot of days and focuses on the more exciting elements of the story. and thats not that common for a musical. most musicals don't take place over the course of such a long period of time. i always thought about five years passed between when Elphaba defies gravity and when the Citizens of Oz celebrate her death.

And, remember, Oz could easily be like Narnia, where time varies. If you look at the original Baum book, Dorothy's stay in Oz is a lot longer than it is in the film. In the book, Dorothy's journey down YBR takes a week or two, in the MGM movie, 30 mins, in Return to Oz 30 seconds or so, and in Wicked all of a few hours. *SPOILER HERE* The weirdest time thing is Fiyero/Scarecrow. Anyone else notice that? NGD almost has to happen IMMEDIATLY before Dorothy meets Scarecrow for it to work out. Also, notice that Emerald City is in the distance of the Kiamo Ko set??? Really, I think that Oz is one that works on it's own unique time frame.
