All right, here's my quesiton...
In the American and London productions, there is of course a standby for Elphaba and (in most cases) Glinda who only goes on in the event that the principal cannot perform. The Elphaba and Glinda covers, then, only perform if the standby is unable to go on, as well (barring scheduled performances, vacations, etc.)
Since the Stuttgart production has alternates who go on every week, though, how does the situation work for covers there? If, say, Willemijn or Lucy call out for a performance that they're scheduled for, does the alternate go on even though they have their own scheduled performances, or do the covers perform? Likewise, if it's a scheduled performance for Sabrina or Jana and they call out, do Willemijn and Lucy perform or do the covers go on?

Basically: The Alternate - Cover system in Germany is common in the most large-scale musical productions. It works like the standby-understudy system in UK and the USA. Only difference is, that in Germany the Alternates do their fix shows.

I this that is a good idea to have a set performance for the Alternates. I wish the U.S. theater system was like that because most of the stand-byes have a large fan bases as well.
