This may seem odd, but:
I love the Wicked costumes. I absolutely do. When I saw the tour (when it first came to Detroit) I remember being absolutely sucked in by the gorgeous-ness of the Bubble gown and staring at like a crazy person. I'm working on a replica of the Popular gown for a convention next year, although I may cave in and try to make the Bubble gown.
Anyway.
Does anyone know of a site, or knows themselves, how the main costumes of Wicked have changed throughout the years? Sometimes I'm going through pictures and I THINK I see differences, but I can't be sure.
The outfits in question, but feel free to mention other costume changes/differences:
*Glinda's Bubble Dress
*Glinda's Popular Gown
*Glinda's 'Wedding' Gown
*Glinda's Thank Goodness
*Elphaba's Act 1 "Party dress"
*Elphaba's Act 1 "normal outfit" (the blue one)
*Elphaba's Act 2 Gown
*Nessa's Act 2 Gown
---
I know of some of the main differences from pre-Broadway to Broadway (the popular dress being blue, Nessa's completey different look Act 2 outfit) but I'm really interested in seeing if there is a difference in the gowns from the original Broadway to the current productions, or if there are differences BETWEEN the production's outfits.
Any help/comments/websites/pictures are appreciated!

Glinda's Shiz Dress has changed. And Elphaba's hat is always slightly different.
Also (this is really picky) some Galinda's wear clear skin colour tights at Shiz and other's wear whiteish ones.

If I'm right, I'm pretty sure that Elphie's Act II dress used to have this ruffle-y thing in the front instead of the current dress...I think it was like, a triangle-ish shape with ruffles or something. I saw something (like a documentary or something) where Idina had that dress, and I think SJB had the dress on in a picture. Again, I'm not sure, but I'm also really bad at describing things, so my definition of the old dress might not make sense.

If you have the OBC Program or the modern one with 'all' casts, towards the end there is a picture of Idina and Norbert doing ALAYM and Idina's dress is completely different.

And also what I have noticed (I am sitting here going back and forth between my OBC, London, and All Programs) they have added a 'frilly thing' to the bottom of Glinda's Shiz outfit.

Also, the yellow OSD dress's design pattern changed a bit from what i've noticed on some pics. Also, i THINK that on some bubble dresses, some Glindas didn't have that collar...i could be wrong.

It looks so plain compared to the one we have now. The sleeves really bother me... how it just cuts off at the wrists.
I prefer the torn elegance of the one we have now.

the bubble dress has REALY changed.
Kristin and JLT I believe had the best Bubble gowns, the ones we have now are still amazingly beautiful but the older ones really had a "beauty" to them.
This is a link to the "original" dress

Yes i like the old bubble dress... but i believe they changed it because it was easier to reproduce[i.e for new glindas/ stand-bys/ unerstudys] and cost less. Krisitns/JLT's bubble dress the sequins were sown (sp?) on by hand!!

Nessarose's Act Two dress in SF, was completely different. I don't have a picture right now, but it shouldn't be hard to find. It was gold and red, and almost styled to be like Madame Morrible, but of course, they changed it.
Also, the bubble dress didn't used to look as plastic.

This is going to be kind of long....
Glinda's costumes have had the most noticeable changes. Kristin Chenoweth and Jennifer Laura Thompson both had the "original" style. The newer/current style was introduced with the national tour, and adopted on Broadway when Megan Hilty took over. All of the North American productions and the Tokyo production use that style, while the European productions have some additional small differences.
All of the dresses have gotten slightly poofier over time....
I made this a while ago to compare the bubble dress. The top row is the style worn by Kristin and JLT. The middle row is the modified, current American/Japanese style. More scallops have been added, and the material is a bit cheaper-looking. The bottom row is the London and Stuttgart styling; notice how the scallops are much more evenly-arranged. Also notice that the bodice has more shape to it.

The Shiz dress has also had a pretty drastic change...it went from a one-piece with 3/4-length sleeves to something a bit more childish-looking (IMO).

And here's my comparison of the party dress. The latter two ("new" and "newest") are the current American and European styles, respectively.

The biggest difference I can see in the Thank Goodness dress is the hat she's wearing.
American:

London/Stuttgart:

It's difficult to compare Glinda's ballgown, because very few pictures of it have been made available. However, the skirt does have scallops on it, and I'm fairly sure that their changes have been in sync with the bubble dress.
I wouldn't say that any of Elphaba's costumes have had any noticeable changes, aside from the SF transition. Her blue turtleneck in act 1 has gone from a full shirt to a partial one; this can be seen in Julia Murney's greenifying video.
Nessa's act 2 gown has changed slightly. The black dress has a broach. Also, her stockings weren't originally striped, but just plain white.

There are definitely some of that I've missed, but that's the bulk of it. Let me know if it's too confusing....

I wish they would go back to using the old material. The ones we have now are still great looking but not as "nice." I know its budget reasons and also time constraints but I think if the costume makers do have enough time (as in they find out who the new Glinda is gonna be a few months in head of time) they should make the older style dress. Same for the Shiz dress, kristin's is gorgeous, the newer one looks more like you said childish. Its not like they dont have enough money lol

WOW!!
Thank you so much!! That's ridiculously awesome and informative. I didn't know that the Stuttgart had differences as well.
And I agree with some people that the new Bubble dress looks almost... plastic sometimes, and the new Shiz outfit is more childish. I think it kind of works with some of the new American Glindas, because aside from Kristin and JLT, most of them play Act I Glinda as extremely spazzy and almost valley-girl ish. The old Shiz outfit reminds me of something a college student would wear - very mature and elegant. I kind of like the style of the new Bubble dress (with the petals being very defined) but the materials leave something to be desired. The first dresses look just... amazing, like something a fairy queen would wear. o.o;

Me, if you can see this, lol! I'm glad you find the site interesting. I find it a great source of pictures, thought I've never really looked at the costume construction side of things as, while I'm very interested in costume & can happily spend hours discussing Glinda's outfits, it would never occur to me to actually try & make any myself.
Another thing I don't think has been mentioned yet is that, as well as losing the shrug, the OSD dress has also changed a lot in bodice design. Origionally, for Kristin, the bodice was in two parts with a horizontal seam under the bust and was just plain material. (This can be seen in the pic that has already been posted to illustrate the shrug & in the Idina/Kristin OSD promo pic at
http://www.wickedthemusicaltour.com/images...Dphotos011.JPG). Now it's similar in design to the Popular dress bodice & has very fine ribbon detailing which can only really be seen in HQ pics so the Shoshana/Megan promo pic is the best one I can think of to show it. I can't find a link to an HQ version of that at the moment but hopefully someone else can find/upload it (all my pics are on my other computer).

Finally getting round to posting pics to try to illustrate what I meant, by "ribbon detailling" I was referring to the thin strips of different colours that are visible through the organza(?) top layer of the bodice. (The best pics I could find were HQs of the post-RVP meet&greet from Idina-Here so the Glinda is Helen.)

Compare that to Kristin's origional with its undecorated bodice:

I love (some) of the changes, since they seem to fit with the portrayal of the character. Kristin's Galinda was a bit more "refined" (aka stuck up, not so... ah... PERKY) and her Shiz outfit seems to reflect that.
