I know there's a blooper thread, but I thought it would be better to create one based only on hilarious ad-libs. So post any you've heard!

One of my favorites was from the tour, Maria Eberline was on as Elphaba (I think) and Kendra was on as Glinda. The bubble didn't work, so they had to re-start the show (a la the first London preview). During the Catfight scene, Maria said "Well we can't all come and go by bubble...AND APPARENTLY, NEITHER CAN YOU!"

Obviously everything Megan Hilty did on Shoshana's last night on Bway and in LA on Eden's last, durring the back bend doing it twice and her shooshing the audience!

JLT used this regularly. I'm not sure if Kristin used it sparsely before her.
After the ball gown part in Popular, after saying "Is this thing on?" she's say something like "Maybe it needs new batteries."
JLT had a lot of great random adlibbing. Like her last Popular where she actually gave a lesson on "eye magic." I think her comedic timing is sorely underrated. Megan took a lot from her.

I would say Kristin's adlib when the bed didn't come on during Popular is a classic.

^Right when the lion cub scene started, didn't the bed get suck on stage and when Dr. Dillamond came in he said "Well, i've heard of sleeping in class, but this is ridiculous!" Did that happen? Thats what i heard.

In that same show? Not as far as I know, and I haven't heard of that either.

I think it may have been after Popular.

The one Idina*and*I was talking about was where Kristin's bed gets stuck offstage during popular and there is only one bed on stage and she sings something like "I want my bed I want my bed.. I'd do anythin.. a million dollars. A MILLION DOLLARS!" and then when Idina tells her to sit next to her, her bed comes out.

I think some of the most memorable ones came from the Finale of what was supposed to be Idina's last show on broadway. when JLT says "I LOVE IDINA MENZEL!" and the whole part where idina says "We can never go back to Oz. I just wish Glinda could know" and Joey looks up at JLT and says "Yeah, I think she knows"

When on saw it on 6/13/04, Idina left after Act 1 and was replaced by Eden. LBB (as Glinda) said "Elphie, you look so different! Thank Oz you're alive"

I know what Chad was talking about, i mean that i heard another blooper regarding the bed from poular getting stuck on stage after popular and i was wondering if it was from the same show.....

Haha! I've also heard that the opposite happened once as well...LBB replaced Kristin mid-show, and during the same scene, Idina said to LBB "You got so tall!"

One of my ABSOLUTE favorites that hasn't been said yet is when during the lion cub scene, someone's cell phone rang and Norbert said "People with cell phones should be put in cages." (something like that, I'm kind of forgetful right now. lol)

lmao, that's HILARIOUS! I love when performers interact with the audience!

Imagine if you were the person with the cell phone.

kristin's last, her "elphie book" for cleanliness and everything....otherwise there really havent been an maj. ad libs in the shows ive seen that i can remember

I liked the one with Kerry and Adam and the broom broke on stage and Adam threw it to Kerry and instead of saying "Elphie, go!" he said "Well, I guess you'll just have to run really fast"

Muck up matinee London 14th June 2007. 2 comes to mind. Helen throws the wand of stage at the end of Popular. Someone in the wings throw it back in on stage again and Helen goes "I am MAGIC" hilarious.

In the cornfield scene Adam Garcia trips over the broomstick. After the audience stopped laughing he goes "I SWEAT alot". Sometimes I miss Adam.

I've never really seen any of the main characters do any adlibs. But I remember once in Chicago when Elphie arrived at the Ozdust, you know how the ensemble makes all these little remarks (laughter,"oh my gosh", "what is that?!" et). So anyway, after that kind of died down one of them said "Oh she is fugly!" After which I died w/ laughter. That's probably the closest I've ever heard to swearing in Wicked.

Then there's Kendra's lost shoe in "What Is This Feeling"....

On March 8, 2006, during NOMTW after Glinda says "a bucket of water thrown by a female child," Robb Sapp (in his mob costume) said "Female? Mother F***er) and I only heard it because I was front row and he was in front of me.

I think it was one of Megan's first shows on as Glinda on Broadway...but during Popular when Galinda says "Is this thing on?" She added, "My first wand and it's a dud!"

I love adlibs as long as they're subtle and funny!

During one of the shows during Eden's last couple of weeks, Eden just couldn't hold it in when Megan started with the "ballgown" part of Popular. She actually buried her head in her arms and just laughed. Megan crept a little closer to her and said "Are you ready? This is very serious! Okay, here we go!", and of course, poor Eden was on the verge of tears from trying not to keep laughing!

Ugh, that show was priceless.
Some more gems were Shona and Helen's standing Toss Toss, the class not moving after being dismissed by Doctor D. and Helen and Adam's... ahem, passionate kiss in Dancing Through Life.

I dont know if I herd this right but when I was in Minneapolis I saw Julia and Kendra and Kendra who played Glinda as you know lol anyway during "Thank Goodness" When Fieyro was interupting glinda speech. Fieyro: You never told me this- Glinda: Shut up Im trying to speak here.

Tom Flynn of the tour cast tells a story about someone dropping a line during the "Something Bad" scene, then an awkward pause occuring. Everyone just stared in silence and he had to get rid of all the other dialogue by saying "CLASS DISMISSED!"

I thought it was funny...

Well of course we will NEVER forget Idina's heart wrenching adlibs at Kristin's last. (Before OSD) but also at Kristin's last show, during DTL, when the "perfect together.....be forever" part, Norbert and Kristin both sort of did this shaky little dance that was cute.

Also in the same show, when Glinda and Fiyero kiss...it was this really intense make out session onstage and the audience was like clapping and yelling...

Of course not...and to get the show back on track "Let's go to the Emerald City." "Let's go shopping!"

^Hahaha...BRILLIANT.

My favorite adlib of all time and I can't believe I forgot it.

So it was a show where Kristin left at intermission and Laura Bell Bundy (who mind you is like a head taller than Kristin) came in for Act 2. When Idina saw Laura for the first time in Act 2 and gave her a hug she said, "Glinda you've gotten so tall!"

Classic Eden. Its so funny when she can't keep a straightt face because Megan makes her laugh so much.

My favorite is when Idina in London collapsed laughing when one of the Flat Heads in OSD fell down and the whole song stopped!

I remember in one, Megan starts popular and she takes this huge breath for her ballgown scream and chokes on her own spit...

Shoshana fell over laughing... audience laughed.
me: Megan needs water.
so megan's in tears laughing and finally she gets through it, and grabs her throat, does an amazing scale, ahhhahaha thing. and goes "Okay we're good,"

Oh how I wish I could have seen/heard that!! That is pricless!

Shoshana and Megan had THE funniest Populars. On tour once (10/20/06), Megan was saying "toss toss" faster and faster until Shoshana said "I'M DOING IT, TOSS TOSS!" Which had the whole audience laughing.

Once, in London, Adam (in the lion cub scene) said Lion King instead of Lion Cub haha

I saw and Eden and Megan in LA, and Meg did one her back bends during Popular. The audience laughed. Megan...being Megan...does it again! This time going even further down, to where she touches the floor. Seriously...i almost died right there in my seat.

Poor conductor...minding his own business, waiting for the cue line...*Show stops*

Idina / Kristin: "lets go to the Emerald City." "Ya, lets go shopping"

Conductor: "Wtf? Oh crap, GO!"

i think alot of the bloopers tend to occur during popular...and with that being said...the second time i saw the show, so i knew for sure it was a blooper. (it was in 04 before bootlegs were really all over to know EVERYTHING that happened).

kristin was doing her usual ballgown lines, and when she said is this thing on, she smacked it so hard against the bed that it literally BROKE. like snapped into two pieces. the audience was hysterical and she just continued with her "oh well just wear the frock its pretty". she went to continue but the crowd apparently couldnt handle it and were laughing so hard that kristin turned to the audience and was like "IT'S JUST A TRAINING WAND! i'll get another one, dont worry!" of course we all laughed more but once that was said and done everyone calmed down and she continued on as normal. other than that all the adlibs ive seen were for last shows such as kristin/norbert/"joels", "idinas"/joey, jen laura/carole's...and others.

Umm...one happened in the Chi company awhile back where, K Todd (dr. d) missed his cue to come onstage for the lion cub scene, so Barbara (madame m.) came on instead and was like "Ok students we're going to try something new today!" and one of the ensemble members just flat out said "Oh sh*t!"...it was hilarious!!!!!!!!!

1. I saw Shoshana fall off the stage 9/20/05. But that belongs in the blooper thread.

2. Same night as above. During Popular, Megan threw the wand offstage but it hit something and bounced right back. Megan ran at it and did this dinosaur growl and kicked it offstage. It was HILARIOUS. One of the best Populars ever.

3. The big one. I saw the show June 8, 2004. It was the first show after Idina won the Tony for Best Actress. At the end of 'Popular', when Kristin took out the mirror, she said "Hmm... looks like a Tony!" The audience broke into the BIGGEST applause I have ever heard and jumped into an immediate standing ovation. I've never seen a mid-show standing ovation like that. After like 2 minutes Idina just hugged Kristin and ran off early, crying. Kristin shrugged and finished the song as per usual. And people say that they hated each other.
