Sorry if this has been posted already sad.gif but I was just wondering if anyone knows if the rights for Wicked being released soon, because i was just on the Josef-Weinberger site and it said:

"Future Releases : Wicked"

But then again why would they release the rights when it's doing so well in so many countries? Maybe its just wishful thinking...sigh

Music-Junkie
DearOldShiz
The producers and Stephen Schwartz himself have said that they won't be releasing the rights for a LONG time.

^ yeah but if you go to the site it says Wicked is a future release.

Which site?
Citizen of oz
You can perform the songs in a concert or something, theres an odd rule. Like only 3 songs with no dialogue from scenes etc and certain type of costume and set. Very strict rules.

Tbh Wicked would be slaughtered by Amateur performers and imagine a wicked without the amazing costume's, sets and huge orchestra. Gonna sound harsh but thats half of the draw of it. Without that it'd be a bit weird!
Defyingravity07
Well I don't think we will be seeing amatuer productions for quite some time, I mean Phantom has been open for 20 years and just had it's first amatuer production.
Balloon-Boy
Wicked amateur productions? I re-he-heally don't like the sound of that.
daisy
^ Seconded, though I could say the same for ALOT of shows.
Wickedly*Defying*Gravity
I have seen some and it just looks cheasy and just.....ew, unless you have the proper costumes and real music, not kareoke and amazing singers and amazing set, Wicked just doesn't work. What i've seen made me embarresed......it was that bad!
STEPHANIELPHIE
If the rights were out for wicked in the future I would make it perfect and exact because Im a perfectonist thats what I am lol.

Unless you have millions of dollars and a pool of amazing actors, tech, scenic artists, costumers, an orchestra.. and a few months, then I doubt it will be perfect.

Unless you were LACHSA......

TOTALLLY just joking!
greenismyfavcolor
Wicked is not even perfect on Broadway, ha.
The bed blooper and JLT's escapade with the flower pin come to mind.

Well no show is going to be perfect. everybody has bloopers. if a show was perfect, it wouldn't be fun to be a performer.. every night would be exactly the same.. it would be BORING. lol. and Wicked is near perfect.. out of the thousands of shows that have gone on, there are very few bloopers that come out of them.

LACHSA would be able to pull it off! I really wanna go there next year!
Nikki
Wow LACHSA? They could TOTALLY pull that off, no doubt! That school is mature and advanced when it comes to shows, it's unbelieveable. Too bad you guys couldn't talk to Stephen and persuade him into letting you do it...smile.gif
Wickedly*Defying*Gravity
hhmm, maybe LACHSA officials can show Stephen some examples of their past shows and show that they can pull it off, because they obviously can, i mean i saw a video that said they booked a 1,000 or more seat theatre! Amazing, eh? Maybe they can ask Stephen if they can be the "demo school" and see if they can pull it off and if they can and it'll be good, the rights will be released? OH and Jennie, Matt can TOTALLY play the Wizard!
roxystar68
^^OMG I could SO see that. How hilarious would that be?!
Wickedly*Defying*Gravity
^ Won't it? He would be like a mix of John and David.
OzianWitch
1) We use the Luckman Theatre which seats over 1,000 people--I'll get back to you on how many exactly.

2) Matt would make a FANTASTIC wizard, but the part would probably go to a senior who looks much older than his age.

EDIT: Okay we have 1152 seats in there
roxystar68
^Yeah but then again, Matt played WAY older than his age in middle school, and although I was onstage at the time, the audience said he looked pretty old.
OzianWitch
^True, but some of the kids here look MUCH older than Matt to begin with, (and probably have a voice down for the role) and it is more likely for an older person to get it ANYWAYS because of seniority-sad.gif

And the other theatre we use is the Alex Theatre--it seatss 1381 people. The Luckman is like a B'way theatre when you go backstage though. Huge dressing rooms, the wings go soooo far back, it's insane!
roxystar68
Yeah that's true. I don't go to LACHSA, so I don't really know much about the upper grades, only a few of the freshman.
Wickedly*Defying*Gravity
I really wanna go to LACHSA next year!
roxystar68
^I want to but I think I'll stay where I am because in 11th grade we will study musical theater, and at LACHSA I'd feel kind of behind in everything.

This is a little off topic, but once on Youtube I saw a few videos of a high school doing a few different songs and they had amazing props, their costumes were almost exact, and they had an actual lift for DG. Does anyone have the links? I can't find them anymore.
3lphababy
I wouldn't want to see some girl screeching singing defying gravity for free, let alone pay to see it.
OzianWitch
^See at LACHSA, you wouldnn't be hearing girls screeching Defying Gravity, you'd hear SINGING.

/threadjack/

Applications were due last week Allen--did you turn one in?
Wickedly*Defying*Gravity
No i didn't because, well, i WANT to go but sadly my parents said we might be moving durring the summer and they don't want me commit to a school if i don't even know if i'll be able to get to it in the morning. sad.gif

Awww........that would've been fun !

But I think they any little group, or school that feels that they COULD do it, should showcase their talent for Stephen, and do some huge collaboration for a short production. How AMAZING would that be?
Wickedly*Defying*Gravity
Yes it would have been fun sad.gif

Honestly, if the school has the money for the sets, props, costume, etc. and has the talent and room to do it, WHY not?! It won't make Wicked lose money because it will make people go "Wow, if THEY'RE amazing, then the real thing must be HEAVENLY! I'LL GO SEE IT!" It would be like an advertisement.

Anyways, i hope LACHSA gets to be the demo school!

OMG amazingness....!!

Well the thing is, everyone pretty much is a fan of Wicked, and like, friends of mine know Emily Rozek personally, and Eden Espinosa, and a few others, so I think it'd bring in a lot of people and cash!

I would hate it if they released the rights to Wicked.

Every school girl in America would be auditioning for Glinda.

Can you imagine all the dodgey ways schools will try and make Elphie fly?

*Shudders at the thought.*

Or stand on a chair. Lol.

My friend's theatre group did Defying Gravity as one of their songs (they were doing a whole bunch of different shows, like Hairspray and Wicked and Annie Get Your Gun...etc) and they actually brought out a chair for Defying Gravity. I was like, looking away, because even though the girl was a great singer, I couldn't stand to see them have her "defy gravity" with a CHAIR. disagree.gif

Also, take a look at how many girls try and sing DG on youtube and just sound like pre-teen fan girls.
