Won't everyone have to leave the tour? I didn't think Equity performers could do Non-Eq tours.
You're right; bad choice of words. Here's an example of what can happen if you are an equity performer who does perform in a non-equity show...
QUOTE
If you join Actor's Equity you can never take a professional role in a non-Equity production without express permission. A few exceptions are allowed with written permission- juveniles can appear in non-Equity and Equity, adults can appear at benefits and fundraisers and unpaid performances within some guidelines, but something like a touring company or a professional stage production- no way.
A few years ago (2000 according to his wiki) Barry "Greg Brady" Williams, an Equity member, accepted the role of Baron von Trapp (? can't see it) in a non-Equity touring company of Sound of Music. Since he was the only name recognizable actor in the cast and this was really pumped in publicity he was being paid, IIRC, $15,000 per week, with the rest of the cast from Maria on down earning probably earning not much more than that combined- a hugely lopsided production salarywise as all the money was going to Williams' salary and not being Equity the only minimum wages in effect for other actors were Federal minimum wages plus room/board (but as starving actors I'm sure many were glad to get the work). Equity was furious and fined him something like $50,000- 2 weeks pay as punitive plus 2.25% of his salary in dues and other tack-ons. Williams never paid it.
Equity doesn't have the legal power to collect a fine, of course, but what they could and did do when he didn't pay (which he didn't) was expel him from Equity, meaning he can't appear in an Equity production until it (along with interest and all) is paid. That's very bad news for an actor- essentially it means he can not appear on Broadway or even in a Broadway road company OR in English theater/road companies that are Equity (for UK & US Equity are related and acknowledge membership in one as membership in the other). On the other hand, it's been 30+ years since Brady Bunch: who's gonna put him on Broadway again anyway? ("Johnny Bravo in RENT!") so it's not a great idea for him to turn down a $15k per week paycheck.

I am not sure who is replacing her but she is going to star a Elle in Muny's (St. Louis) production on Legally Blonde. Muny's shows are usually like 2 weeks so she may return afterwords.

Not all of their "predictions" as I call them come true, remember when they said that Briana Y. would replace Jenny Fellner as Nessarose on April 17.

Dee Roscioli is most likely replacing Jackie Burns on the 1st Tour. Official? No. Has anyone seen her fan page in which she co-runs?

Another person asked when an official announcement will be made and she said soon.
Since this is a public fan page I'm assuming this is alright to post. Hmm.

I think Wicked just wants to get people who know what they are doing in the role. Is she good, that is a matter of opinion but she is definitely able to do the role a million times in a row.

Um I'm talking about in general. Broadway, and every sit down except for Chicago and tours are constantly recycled. Dee has played her in Chicago, SF (s/b) and Broadway now Tour. Sorry if I want a fresh face...its not a crime.

Hmmmm... interesting. Congratulations to her. I was a huge fan of hers when she was Chicago's standby.
In other news, though... my beloved Jackie leaves THIS WEEK?! Sad day. Seriously one of the best Elphabas to grace the role... SUCH an unbelievable understanding of both the role and the score. Happy trails to her, and best wishes to Dee as she takes over the production.

I really think what it comes down to is preservation. Dee has great breath control with superb technique. And if you listen closely to when she sings...she almost mixes on some of the high notes instead of full force belting. Its very subtle, but my vocal teacher pointed that out to me. She has a mix that is so strong it does indeed sound like a harty belt. Also she knows when to take a day off. If you look at her attendance, you will see that she did take off a day here and there. Also I have been learning in Music Theory that there is new studies showing that every person's vocal chords are unique. They function the same way obviously but each one reacts differently. Its like an athlete, some can naturally run a full marathon with very little training because they are blessed with strong muscles passed down from their genetic tree...while others can get the same results but with much more training needed. Vocal chords are the same. I think Dee and other Elphaba's who had such great runs with very little vocal issues (Willemijn, Donna) are blessed with stronger vocal chords.

Some performers get more in a week than most people make in a year. And Wicked's a big show, so you can bet they're paid a pretty penny. So they might be doing it for love, since they'd have enough to last them a year in one week. Would you continue to work if you made that much if you didn't love your job?

As much as I wish it was true I don't think it is, at least the today part. Dee started today and her headshot and bio have already been added to the site.
