Yeah, I think you're right Felix Felicis
Balloon-Boy
I'm sure I is correct because it only needs a noun. We've always been taught that it is incorrect to say '"name" and me' and that it is correct to say '"name" and I" though the former is used frequently in slang.

If I'm remembering correctly, when I've seen it in Chicago, there's usually not been applause at this spot. It seems to me that the Chicago crowd are some pretty reluctant clappers in general.

I never clapped at that part because the next scene starts right away. I mean there's barely even a break in the music. (however it does change drastically) I'm always amazed at how fast the set gets changes. as soon as its black, the lights come back on and we are in a completely different place.

Very random question: in "I'm Not That Girl", one of the lines is "he loves her so I'm not that girl" (deliberate lack of punctuation).
My question is about the semantics there; is it "he loves her and so/therefore, I'm not that girl"? Or is it "he loves her so [much]; I'm not that girl"?
Just a little thing, but I've been wondering for a while.

I've thought about that too. I think you just need to take it as you want to.

Does anyone know the official name of those two tower like things? Elphie sets her suitcase on one in TWAI and then they move off stage on "with meeeeeeeee" I'm just curious.

Alright, I have a random Wicked question....

When I recently saw the show on Broadway, I noticed that right before the singing starts in NOMTW, some paper streamer things are shot out into the audience. It only hits the front/center orchestra section, so maybe that's why I hadn't noticed it until recently....

Does anyone know if the Broadway production has always done this and I'm just too blonde to notice? And do other productions do this?

I know that in Chicago anyway, the streamers are shot off from hand held cannons by actors on those High platform things on each side of the stage. (where morrible does her DG speech)
WesternSky
WOW! Triple post?!

Fiyero3305
Going back to the TWAI question I'm about 90% sure it should be "The wizard and me" because she's talking about people cheering for her and if you were to eliminate the wizard proper grammar would be "When people see me they will scream, for half of Oz's favorite team: ME" not "For half of Oz's favorite team: I"

Most people seem to shy away from ever using "[name] and me" because it's hammered into them to use "[name] and I", even though "...and me" is sometimes correct. In the case of this sentence I'm pretty sure "The Wizard and I" is the object of the sentence and not the subject, and as such should be phrased "The Wizard and Me"
.x.-6-ElPhIe-9-.x.
Yes, it should be "the Wizard and me", as both are objects of the sentence and follow a preposition.

I always think the latter.
Apster
I be no English major, but I believe "...and I" is actually mostly correct in the song. Take this line for example: "And that's how we'll begin, The Wizard and I." Here, she's reiterating the subject, hence "I." The only part where it definitely doesn't work is in the last phrase ("...they will scream for half of Oz's favorite team: The Wizard and I")

And yeah, I hear it as "he loves her so [much]."

Yup, I think 'I' is definitely correct throughout - it was only the end that I doubted.smile.gif

And the more I think about it, the more I think "so [much]", too.

Okay. Random question. That's what this forum is for biggrin.gif

What does the actress playing Glinda wear under her costumes? Does she wear a body tight or what? Because some of Glinda's costumes show way too much cleavage for them to be wearing a bra. It came across my mind when I was looking at some of the pictures tongue.gif
Catalys
She wears a flesh-coloured strapless corset. There are pictures of Kristin & Megan around that show what it looks like, they'll be somewhere in the pictures thread.
clockworkgirl21
When I saw Wicked, I'm certain I saw a man in a skirt during DTL. Was I right, or was I having a moment of insanity?
nerual824
your eyes were not decieving u
Elphie Fabala Fae
No, there's guys that are in skirts in DTL. You were right.
samiam1432
Aren't they like kind of like reverse skorts? Like a skirt in back, and pants in front? At least thats what I think I've seen in Chicago. Although I could be completely wrong.
Wickedly*Defying*Gravity
That's the one costume I hate from Wicked. It seems so random, out of place and just weird IMO, even for Oz!
WesternSky
Allen. I couldnt agree more.
Awful costume.
Wickedly*Defying*Gravity
But I bet a lot of girls who win lotto enjoy watching Dancing Through Life wink.gif haha.
Erin1236
I like the Dancing Through life costumes for the ensemble. Even though they are totally random and pointless, they still look pretty cool with the lights. And it makes Glinda stand out even more, in her bright pink dress.
Fiyero3305
I think it's a little insulting for everyone to be calling this costume random or out of place, do you have any idea how hard Susan Hilferty worked on these costumes? She puts plenty of thought into them, none of them are just thrown into the show for the hades of it.
Teal-Shade-of-Eden
I've always thought that the male wearing a skirt was a throwback to lack of gender identity or a "dominant" gender... I don't know if that statement makes sense, but what I wanted to say is something along those lines. I am having trouble with writing coherently at the moment. Just got home from a crappy week of school. smile.gif

Oh wow...I had never thought about that before, but that actually makes a lot of sense....I usually just thought the men and skirts were just part of the oddity of the costumes to make you feel like you were in another world, that you were in Oz...but whether or not it was done intentionally for the purpose you stated, I really like that reasoning smile.gif

Geez, it's not insulting. It's my opinion. First of all, not everyone has to love the costumes. especially all of them. I'm sure she did put time and thought into every costume, and the detail and quality and how they look are amazing. Second of all, I love EVERY SINGLE OTHER costume in Wicked. I simply don't like one costume from Wicked, and that's the man-skirts. Sorry that I don't like them. Big deal. rolleyes2.gif It's one costume that I think is out of place. Every other costume is frikin amazing! One of the reasons I'm even a fan of Wicked in the first place. Amazing costumes. It's wrong to not like one costume and to have an opinion that it's random and out of place?
Fiyero3305
It's not wrong to dislike it, but thats not what you and others have been saying. You've been saying it's out of place and I think that is insulting to Susan because you're basically saying she didn't think it through.
Wickedly*Defying*Gravity
^We're not saying that our opinion is fact. Those who have mentioned it are saying it from THEIR point of view. Like I said, obviously she has thought about it when she was making the costume, it doesn't mean that I think it LOOKS good. In my opinion, it's out of place. Nothing wrong about it. Obviously it was time and effort, it doesn't mean that we agree with Susan. Every other costume is amazing. Susan can be considered like another WoO member. She has her opinion, we have ours. And i respect her opinion. Her opinion is that the costume makes sense. My opinion is it doesnt. You're making it too big of a deal. It's just our opinion/taste. End of story.

Nothing stated here of opinion, just saying that they ARE random and pointless. I never singled you out, I don't know why you felt the need to take it so personally.
Wickedly*Defying*Gravity
Oh.....I didn't read that comment. That is.....kinda rude. Sorry, thought you were reffering to my comments. Anyway, I agree with you then, as Erin1236 said all of the DTL costumes are pointless and random. I actually love them all, except the guy skirts. I mean, it might be their opinion, but they stated it like facts, so I see why you thought it was rude.
Teal-Shade-of-Eden
I love the costumes as well... my sister would love if she had $20,000 to spend on Elphie's Act II dress... she's been interested in that costume ever since June... LOL.
samiam1432
Not a question, but I just noticed that in WAI, the soundtrack says "when we are hand in hand" while the production currently says "as we work hand in hand". I guess you do learn new things every day.
Fiyero3305
Elphabas used to alternate between both phrasings, though now it does seem to always be the latter.
DisneyFanKL
The sheet music says "as we work"
Man in Chair
Just a small wondering (I didn't want to start a separate thread, as I'm sure it's probably been done before), but would people here rather see an actress play Elphaba who has the most beautiful voice, but whose acting is mediocre or a phenomenal actress whose singing is adequate?

Ideally of course, one would have both, but if I had to pick one... probably the brilliant acting. Occasionally we get some gems who have both (Julia Murney, Idina Menzel [in my opinion]), but overall, the actress normally excels in one or the other.

Any thoughts?
WesternSky
I would go with the singing smile.gif
Kerry Ellis is loved, and she cant act very well at all.
x.-6-ElPhIe-9-.x
Well Julia Murney transcends acting and embodies whatever she plays, so I tend not to compare her to the others because it isn't fair. Besides, you can be a mediocre actress in Act 1 and make it work for 99% of the audience anyway. All you need to do is smile through Wizard and I, cry in I'm Not That Girl and look angry in Defying Gravity to be hailed as a great actress by fans. However, I'd probably prefer a great actress with good singing.
samiam1432
Hmm...interesting question. I think I'll have to go with singing. An amazing voice just does it for me.
Fiyero3305
I think Elphaba's role is simple enough that a mediocre actress with a strong voice would be fine. For Glinda, however, I think you really need a smart actress to keep her from becoming ridiculous.
ForGood
Acting for me. That's why, although Idina/Kristin are my personal favorites, I think Lisa/Katie are the best because they kick everyone's asses in the acting department.
ngdfan
I would much rather have a believable actress with a pretty good voice, than have a phenomenal singer who can't act that well.
elphabaturnblad
^Believable. Amen.

What SJB, Idina and CJ did perfectly.

I agree completely.
Elphie Fabala Fae
I don't know if I would be able to listen to someone with an okay voice. Wicked is a hard show, and I think that if your voice can't handle it, then don't play the role.
OzianWitch
If it were up to me, the actress would have a stellar voice, and top notch acting, but that might be asking a lot. wink.gif

As someone stated before me, I think it is harder to act Glinda well because you don't want to play her 'ridiculous'. I think one can play Elphaba in many ways because she really already has a set persona. Fiery, smart, misunderstood. Those three words can really build up her character. As for Glinda, she's shallow, spoiled.....there's many different ways to play her. Stupid and spoiled, mean and spoiled, mean and shallow...

So for Elphaba, I think I'd rather have an amazing singer with ok acting, and for Glinda I want a strong actress with so-so singing. Glinda doesn't always have to have an unbelieveable voice, because most actresses use little things to 'Galindafy" their voices anyways.
Fiyero3305
^I completely agree.

Completely agreed. For me, Elphaba's WOW factor is how well she sings (specifically DG, NGD, TWaI) and Glinda's WOW factor is how much of a transformation she makes from Act 1 to Act to (plus how well done 'Popular' is).
clockworkgirl21
I read on the official Wicked site that every so often they offer shows for blind people.

How do they do that?
Fiyero3305
Blind people? Are you sure you're not thinking about the sign-language shows they do for the deaf/hearing-impaired.
clockworkgirl21
I might be thinking about that, it's been awhile since I read it.
Fiyero3305
Ok. I was at an ASL performance when I saw the show in Chicago and a man and woman stood at the front of the theater on the audience's right side, dressed in black, with a small light on them and they signed the dialogue as well as acting a little bit (facial expressions and reactions, nothing big).
