I know no one wants to talk about it, but I had to ask... curiosity killed the cat.
My personal opinion? If they don't cast people from the musicals (not even the OBC, just the musicals), we all boycott it.
And yes, it has been confirmed they're making it.
Mine?
Elphaba: ??? I haven't decided yet
G(a)linda: Megan Hilty
Fiyero: Oliver Tompsett
Boq: Christopher Fitzgerald (I think)
The Wizard: Joel Grey
Madame Morrible: Rue McClanahan
Nessarose: Briana Yacavone or Marcie Dodd
Chistery: Whoever was in the OBC
Frex: ---
Elphaba's Mother: Idina Menzel
Doctor Dillamond: Whoever was in the OBC
The Midwife: ---
Pfanee: Ashley!
Shen-Shen: Tiana!

Elphaba: Eden Espinosa (Just look at my banner)
G(a)linda: Megan or Kristin
Fiyero: Mario Lopez
Boq: Adam Wylie (with 17 years of acting experience and experience as BOQ, you can't beat that)
The Wizard: Ben Vereen (Tons of experience on film and theater)
Madame Morrible: Rue McClanahan (Again, lots of experience and fan base)
Nessarose: Marcie Dodd or Kathleen Robertson (Tin Man)
Chistery: Manuel Herrera
Elphaba's Mother: Idina Menzel (I like that idea)
Doctor Dillamond: Jim Breuer (Goat Boy from SNL)

Elphaba: Eden or Stephanie please!
Glinda: I would have loved for Kristin, but she'll probably be too old by then.

So I think maybe someone out of Wicked
Fiyero: I think someone out of Wicked, who doesn't have too big of a name.
Wizard: Ben Vereen or Joel Grey!
Morrible: Carol Kane or Rue McClanahan
Nessa: Jenna Leigh Green
Boq: ADAM WYLIE FTW!
Dillamond: Hmmm...I dunno about him.
And Idina can be Elphie's mom (cameo)
It's too hard to really decide for me!

In my personal opinion i don't think they should cast anyone from broadway or any current Wicked casts (which they won't). To make the movie successful they will have to cast known movie stars. As in the case with Chicago, Hairspray, and Mamma Mia! This being the case this is the cast i would prefer:
Elphaba: Emmy Rossum
Glinda: Reese Witherspoon (Assuming they hurry up with production and she doesn't get too old!)
Fiyero: Joe Jonas (I know, i know he's a Jonas brother but it would work well. He has the look and the fan base that this movie would need to attract.)
Madame Morrible: Meryl Streep
The Wizard: Michael Caine
Boq: Michael Cera
Nessa: Hayden Panettiere

Big names would make it successful, but Stephen Schwartz is helping plan the whole thing, and I'm kind of hoping they do pick people from Broadway. I don't want the movie to be /successful/. I want it to be /good/. I want it to live up to what Broadway has turned it into.

LOL. Well i'm just thinking Joe Jonas as Fiyero in a Zac Efron as Link Larkin kind of way. Nobody shoot me for that but i think it would work well. As far as using broadway people for the movie - i don't think it would work. Just because a certain actor works for a character on stage doesn't mean they would work for them in a film. Think about using the Original Broadway Cast for the Rent film. Granted it made the RentHeads happy, but the film wasn't as good as it could have been - and also wasn't very successful.

Very well said

If the movie happens to be successful, that's great. But I just want it to be GOOD, I want it to do justice to the show we all obviously love.
I'm personally rather interested to see if they use big names or Wicked alums for the movie. Although Wicked is a big name, and I'm sure they could get big-names to the movie, I'm not sure that's the best action. Wicked has a huge fan-base, a large portion of which revolves around the actresses playing the roles...it may be wise to get fan support by casting people we already know and love....
I don't know...they'll probably pick big-names, I'm just in denial

But like Nicole said, I hope first and foremost that the movie will be good, not just successful.

Don't kill me when i say this, but i think Megan will be perfect for playing Glinda in the movie. Why? Well, she's doing a lot more stuff now and i believe she has 2 movies comming out that she's starring in, and i think by the time they do the movie, she'll be rather well known and popular to movie audiences (or so i hope so) IF she does more movie stuff. But that's just me

But think about it. Popular with the Stage version of Wicked, will make many fans happy (and some not, but whatever haha) and she might be getting more famous for theatre movies so she'll be a good person for the role! Either her or Reese Witherspoon!

No offense but all the actors mentioned (most) will be too old to be in the roles.
The younger Glindas are who I am voting for, Annaleigh and Erin.
I know no one wants to hear it but, Idina will be too old, as will many of the favorites.
I'm hoping for some unknowns who will just blow us all away and do the roles justice.

Getting the OBC should be priority one.
If they can't:
* Elphaba: ???
* Glinda: ???
* Nessa: ???
* Madam Morrible: Lin Shaye (There's Something About Mary, 2001 Maniacs, Nat'l Lampoon's Pledge This), Carol Kane, Dame Judi Dench, Dame Maggie Smith
* The Wizard: Robert Englund (if he can sing), Malcolm McDowell (if he can sing AND do the right accent; he'd also make a gr8 Dr. Dillamond)
* Dr. Dillamond/Witch's Father: Anthony Steward Head, Malcolm McDowell (if he can sing), Jeffrey Combs (Re-Animator, House on Haunted Hill, Edmond; if he can sing)
* Boq: Jake Goldsbie (Degrassi's Toby Isaacs; if he can sing), Christian Campbell, Christopher Mintz-Plasse (singing talent's a plus), Matt Austin (Power Rangers SPD)
* Fiyero: Chris Violette (Power Rangers SPD, Diary of the Dead), Zac Efron (I hate Efron, but he IS a pretty boy (a very vapid one) and girls say he can sing)

Glinda: megan hilty xD (don't roll your eyes at me xP)

I'd like to linger on the subject of Joe Jonas!Fiyero for a second.....
Seriously? In all seriousness? Joe Jonas doesn't have the vocal chops for Fiyero--he strains so badly on his own songs (or the Jonas Brothers songs). Fiyero is pretty hard for a guy vocally. ALAYM? I'm sorry but I don't see Joe Jonas hitting almost any of those notes. He's an ok actor (from what I've seen so far) but I don't know if I could find much depth in his Fiyero. His voice is much too rockish for Wicked.
Sorry Joe...I really don't

I agree with this. Even if we're talking "good" vs. "successful" (that makes it sound like good vs. evil...

), a "good" film isn't guaranteed by casting former Wicked actors any more than it is by casting established film actors. Casting Wicked-alums is just like stunt casting; they'd be cast due to their status as a Wicked alum. It's stunt casting to cater towards the fans (which is potentially even more dangerous).

Of course I'd love to see a cast of Broadway actors... i.e. Kerry Ellis, Kendra Kassebaum and Aaron Tveit who might be the perfect Fiyero. But with that said, I don't think it'll happen. So here's a couple of proposals:
Older Cast:

Elphaba - Idina Menzel
Fiyero - Harry Connick, Jr. (alt: Patrick Wilson)
Galinda - Kristen Chenoweth
Wizard - Victor Garber
Morrible - Kathy Bates (alt: Judi Dench, Glenn Close, Imelda Staunton, Whoopi Goldberg)
Boq: James McAvoy
Nessa: Helen Bonham Carter
Dillamond: Jeff Daniels
Young Cast:

Elphaba: Lea Michele
Fiyero: James Marsden (although I'd prefer Aaron Tveit here)
Galinda: Kristen Bell
Wizard: Victor Garber
Morrible: Kathy Bates (alt: Judi Dench, Glenn Close, Imelda Staunton, Whoopi Goldberg)
Boq: Ben Foster
Nessa: Rachel McAdams
Dillamond: Jeff Daniels

But would you rather have them cast people we don't know that might not be able to play the part... or even sing (ie: Pierce Brosnan?) Maybe the minor characters could be new people, but I say stick with at least Elphie and Glinda as people who've played them. (And maybe Fiyero, but as I said, I approve of James Marsden.)

I think they'll mix and match. I think Morrible and Wizard (and possibly Fiyero) will be stunt casted and then I think the 2 leads will either be former cast members or newbies. I think that newbies would be a smart move and then they could do a Tracie Thomms and put the film newbies on Broadway or in another production and then they'd rake in the money!

Wow. I was going to post the exact same theory. They're definitely going to cast big names as The Wizard and Morrible because that's what all the productions generally do. I would love Kristen Bell as Glinda, but only time will tell... Erin or Megan are my other top choices. As for Elphaba, look at my user name, because they deserve it the most!

Hmm... if they do cast a "big" name for Fiyero, is Joey McIntyre a possibility? Or is he considered washed-up despite New Kids coming back. *shudders* My sister had a crush on him in the '80s. LOL!

There's one thing certain. Whoever the cast in the movie will make half of everyone upset, mostly Wicked fans. If they cast some celebrities in the roles, many of us will be upset and think they're awful in the role compared to our fav Bway stars who did the roles. If they cast the roles with people who did do Wicked onstage, half of everyone will still be upset because their FAVORITE wasn't chosen. For example, if they cast Kendra instead of Megan, i'll be upset. For the normal people (ha normal) who haven't seen the show or dont have favorites wont care at all, and will probably love it if it's an all star celebrities cast. In the end, Wicked fans will be upset, i can feel it. I already know 100% (yes, i can feel it) that it just WONT be any of the OBC except maybe Joel and Carole as Idina and Kristin just wont be able to pull it off, i'm sorry. So yeah. there's no pleasing Wicked fans when it comes to the movie. They'll just be thinking about making it succesful. That's why i just don't want a movie.

I totally agree about Annaleight being a possibility!! Not that she had big parts or anything, but she was in the sex and the city movie and the new Anne Hathaway one too! I think she is hilarious and pulls off the "first act" galinda perfectly!! And when it comes time for her to mature in the second act she is fantastic!!
I do think Megan would be great too. (I tried to find film info for her and she doesnt have upcoming projects that i could find?)
But I am always going to be parital to the OBC!! Bring Kristin and Idina back!! haha Those two own the show!

But I have a feeling they are going to look for people who will attract a huge audience, but if they are looking to do that i agree with what others have said, do it by casting these people in the not so main roles (Morrible, Wizard, Boq, Nessa) give Elphaba, Glinda and Fiyero to Wicked alum!
