Rent was 6/8 and that was after.

I think Idina has a chance just as she's done film work before, I don't know her views on the whole idea of the film or returning to wicked but I wouldn't say its impossible.
Morrible, Wizard will be stunt casted, although Miriam having experience with film would make sense.
Nessa, Boq, Glinda I think will be talent based, not face.

But would you rather have them cast people we don't know that might not be able to play the part... or even sing (ie: Pierce Brosnan?) Maybe the minor characters could be new people, but I say stick with at least Elphie and Glinda as people who've played them. (And maybe Fiyero, but as I said, I approve of James Marsden.)

That's what the audition process is for. We only know that these people can play the parts on stage, so having that past experience doesn't guarantee they'll succeed any more than someone who is fresh to the role. On top of that, the characters and the script could potentially undergo changes where the accepted stage interpretation wouldn't necessarily work. A lot of people hate the cast recycling that goes on in the stage productions; do we want to see that casting further recycled onto film, when there are hundreds of other faces (be they famed or unknown) who are actually trained to act for film rather than theatre, and who are just as, if not more qualified?

My point isn't that they should only cast Hollywood actors; rather, I'm saying that restricting it to the stage actors is not a wise move. They shouldn't cast the roles with any sort of bias in mind. Whoever earns the roles should get them.

Getting the OBC should be priority one.

If they can't:

* Elphaba: ???
* Glinda: ???
* Nessa: ???
* Madam Morrible: Lin Shaye (There's Something About Mary, 2001 Maniacs, Nat'l Lampoon's Pledge This), Carol Kane, Dame Judi Dench, Dame Maggie Smith
* The Wizard: Robert Englund (if he can sing), Malcolm McDowell (if he can sing AND do the right accent; he'd also make a gr8 Dr. Dillamond)
* Dr. Dillamond/Witch's Father: Anthony Steward Head, Malcolm McDowell (if he can sing), Jeffrey Combs (Re-Animator, House on Haunted Hill, Edmond; if he can sing)
* Boq: Jake Goldsbie (Degrassi's Toby Isaacs; if he can sing), Christian Campbell, Christopher Mintz-Plasse (singing talent's a plus), Matt Austin (Power Rangers SPD)
* Fiyero: Chris Violette (Power Rangers SPD, Diary of the Dead), Zac Efron (I hate Efron, but he IS a pretty boy (a very vapid one) and girls say he can sing)

If you're not agreeing with me, you're disagreeing with me. It's okay if you disagree with me, just let me know it.

And by the way, I for one KNOW my choices make sense. They're known but (mostly) aren't too famous, but some famous individuals are sprinkled into the supporting cast.
futuregalinda518
Elphaba: Dee Roscioli or Idina Menzel
Galinda: Reese Witherspoon or Erin Mackey
Fiyero:Derrick Williams, Patrick Dempsey(lol. i think he's cute), or that guy/prince in Enchanted? idk his name
Madame Morible: OMG! MERY STREEP!That is a brilliant idea! She is so amazing. And we know she can sing.
Wizard:Gene Weygandt
Boq: Anthony Rapp is another great idea!! He was born in my hometown! He would be excellent.
Nessa: I think Anne Hathaway could pull it off. And just think, even though Nessa/Morrible don't have a lot of diolougue together, can you imagine the chemistry in those few moments that they do with Anne and Meryl? Hello, Devil Wears Prada! heartbeat.gif

More likely then not, it will be celebrities or the OBC.
Nicole
Honestly? I don't mind celebrities if they can sing, I'd just really like people in the Broadway caste...

Zac is a no-no as Fiyero, though. Just... no.

You're thinking of James Marsden, BTW. The prince. ^^"
futuregalinda518
^Thanks! I think he would be good. He can sing and he's hott.
WICKEDWALES123
I really hope that it won't all be stunt cast I do agree that maybe The Wizard and Madame Morrible should be stunt cast but please not with the other characters. This is my dream cast for the movie;

Elphaba - Caissie Levy
G(a)linda - Emily Rozek
Fiyero - Oliver Tompsett
Madame Morrible - Bette Midler
The Wizard - Joel Gray
Nessarose - Briana Yacavone
Boq - Adam Wylie
Dr.Dillamond - Martin Ball
WICKEDWALES123
OMG!!!! i completly take the nessarose one back and replace her with Anne Hathaway i just read a couple of posts above mine and i completly agree i think that would be amazing!!

I'm fixated with Helena Bonham Carter as Nessa. She just seems like she'd be perfect... if only Wicked the Movie Musical were being made 10-15 years earlier when she could have succesfully passed off as a Shiz student... *sigh*
Fabala
I need a straight answer please. I have been hering a rumor that there is going to be a movie made about wicked. Does anybody know about this?
OzianWitch
^Yes, they're planning one.
Fiyero3305
There's nothing concrete yet. Meaning, no casting, filming schedule, or projected release date. It's just something tat Universal has said they want to do and Marc Platt has said he wanted to wait. So yes, there will most likely be one but no, no real work has begun on it.
WickedlyAsh
I'd have to find the article again, but I swear I just saw a RECENT interview with David Stone, in which he said a movie will be made, but not for another 7 to 10 years (and randomly confirmed that Kristin will not reprise her role for the movie). I'm not sure why he mentioned Kristin like that....but considering it will apparently be another 7 to 10 years, having Kristin in the role would be unlikely anyway (since I believe she's 40 now).

EDIT: Found it. It was just published on Sunday, so this info is pretty up-to-date.... http://deseretnews.com/article/1,5143,700251179,00.html?pg=1

Perhaps he mentioned it because she seemed pretty sure she was going to play Glinda. She said something about it being in her contract and they "had" to use her. I'll try and find the article...I know its somewhere.

^ I'm still thinking we'll get our movie in 2014 or 2015... just something within me... tongue.gif
Nicole
Yeah, it was on Perez Hilton's site a while back, too. XD Just sayin'.
thegreengirl3
Ella Enchanted was on today. There is one part where Anne Hathaway sings, and I've decided she MUST play Nessa. I think she would be perfect.
Yeroismyhero
Yeah sad to say but most of the cast will be out of the age limit by the time the movie is made.

I know we're thinking about dream casts, but I think we're all thinking too old.

We've gotta be like more on the lines of Abagail Breslin, Dakota Fanning, you know in that age group? Ok, maybe not quite that young but in 10 years, or whatever, they're going to be in their 20's.

I just named 2 random child actresses off the top of my head. I'm not saying I want to specifically see those two in the movie.

WickedlyAsh
Isn't it sick that even the young Wicked actresses (Annaleigh, Erin, etc.) will be pushing too old by the time this movie is made? Ugh....clearly it's far too early to guess who will be in the movie. Who they eventually pick are probably people we haven't even heard of yet...

I think it was more for the fangirls who are constantly insisting that Kristin and Idina reprise their roles. And all Kristin said on the subject was that it was in her contract that if the film were made before 2007 she would be playing Glinda, and that obviously didn't happen.
Nicole
On the other hand, half of the movie is when they're in college, and half of the time they're older - and with movie magic nowadays, they can make them look younger.

Oh I missed the detail about it being only if the movie was made before 2007. It makes sense though for them to get it out there that it won't be the OBC, most likely.

^ I knew that if Idina and Kristin had stuff in their contracts about reprising their roles on film, there was a loophole in there! LOL.
NotEasyBeingGreen
OMG! I am SO happy to see that so many of you guys in this message board are open minded! I was getting so irritated by people on other message boards saying "OMG if it's not OBC I'm not going to go see it! No one is better than them! Everyone else will stink!!!"

Anyways, I honestly think that they will go for more well-known actors because this movie is going to have to have a HUGE budget! Think of all the special effects and sets and costumes! They are going to definitely want to make sure that it all pays off so I doubt that they will risk casting a bunch of people who are unknown to the general public. I really don't mind if they put well known actors in the cast as long as they are talented and can pull off the roles. For example, as many of you have already said, James Marsden would make an amazing Fiyero! Also, I know many of you are totally against having "disney kids" in wicked...but I REALLY think that Lucas Grabeel (aka Ryan, Ashley Tisdale's character's brother in High School Musical) would make a good Boq. I know that he was in possibly the cheesiest, lamest musical ever, however, I don't think we should hold that against him. I've always found him extremely talented and I wondered what he was doing in a movie with a bunch of mediocre teeny boppers. For Elphaba, I think they should find an unknown. I really can't think of any known mainstream actress that could pull it off.

But heres something else I've been thinking about....

In the movie...should they dress up actual human beings to play the Animals (such as dr.dilimond) like in the play or should they do real animals with human voices? In the book they have "Animals", that can speak and function like human beings and "animals" who are like the animals in our world, who cannot. It says that you cannot tell the difference when it is a baby, because it cannot speak either way...so wouldn't it make sense to do actual animals with human voices? Or would that end up looking cheesy? What do you think?

I didn't think of Lucas; he would make a good Boq!

I actually think that having Animals that are actual animals talking would look a little bit cheesy. I'd rather have a human with some great special effects (get the PotC people!) to play Dillamond and such.
Fiyero3305
Lucas would be an amazing Boq. In my opinion he is the most talented and (sadly) most overlooked member of the HSM cast. (except maybe for Monique, no one really ever talks about her either)

I don't think real animals would be very good. Think Babe; it just looks silly.
OzianWitch
^He definitely is the most underrated of the HSM cast. If we're going talent-wise, he blows the other cast members away. Zac, Vanessa, and Corbin will probably always be playing the same parts. Lucas, and even Ashley are much more versatile than the others. Moreso Lucas-he's got the better voice.

ANYWAYS he'd make a good Boq! I wouldn't mind seeing that.
Nicole
Ashley does have some talent; I think it'd be fun to see her as a Pfanee or Shenshen. XD She does make a Chicago reference in HSM3 from what I've heard...
OzianWitch
I could see Ashley or Lucas in Wicked. Of course, Ashley would need some work, but I think in some time, she actually could pull off Glinda. Her voice is just a little 'ehh' for me, and her acting is only ok. But I could see also see her as Pfanee or Shen Shen!

Ok, if she's referring to Wicked Chicago in the third one, I just might have to see it....(I'll probably have to anyways...sad.gif)
futuregalinda518
^I think she refers to Chicago the musical? But I am not sure. I saw a music video on Disney Channel the other day, and it looked "Chicago-ish" to me.

Um...I dont really think Ashley could pull off Galinda. Nessa, maybe.

Yeah, Chicago-the-musical. She pulls off the Roxxi Heart outfit. :}

I can't see her as a Nessa. That's just me.
Fiyero3305
Yeah, I definitely don't see her as Nessa.

I feel like people just say actors can do Nessa because they don't want them to be Elphaba or Glinda.
Nicole

Agreed.
OzianWitch
Definitely no Nessa. If she had to be in the show or the world would end, she'd have to be Glinda. She could probably pull of Act 1 Glinda decent enough right now. She probably doesn't have the higher notes though...
HalfBloodPrince
How about this? Up until Defying Gravity, the roles of Galinda and Elphaba can be played by Annaleigh Ashford and Teal Wicks. From that point forward, with the 15-year jump in time, the roles can be played by Kristin Chenoweth and Idina Menzel. I chose those first two actresses because (a.) they're amazing and (b.) they are vocally and physically comparable to the two original leading ladies, just about 15 or 20 years younger smile.gif.

Thoughts?
OzianWitch
^But was it supposed to be 15 years? I never actually knew the time gap...

But still, I think if that were to happen, the younger versions should like like the older versions. IMO, Kristin could never be Future!Annaleigh.
.x.-6-ElPhIe-9-.x.
I'm sure I've seen actresses and the producers saying the time gap in the musical is like 3 years. It's the time gap in the book that's like 15 years.
samiam1432
I read on here at some point that the gap was two years? I could very well just be making that up, though. However, interesting idea! Maybe early 20's -> late 20's, like teal/AA and then dee/kate reinders tongue.gif.
HalfBloodPrince
sorry i didn't mean to say it's supposed to be 15 years, i just meant that might make sense... the novel spans many years, after all. could work.
OzianWitch
^See for a while I thought it was a BIG gap, but after a while i was just confused...
thegreengirl3
Well In Part 3 (City of Emeralds) she says she's 25. So it must be 5 years top. And I know the book goes until she's 38, because in the last part she says something about being 38 and still never finding a real home.
samiam1432
This is a whole 'nother conversation....but I'm in the middle of the book right now and I'm SO confused! Elphie and Fiyero are together from the start, and Glinda's married to one of Boq's friends? And there hasn't really been much about Boq and Nessa being a couple...does the show really stray that far from the book? Or do things come together later?
OzianWitch
^It actually strays pretty far from the book, if I recall.
samiam1432
Ah ok, that's good to hear. I keep thinking I'm missing something lol. Anyway...sorry for the threadjack!

That's an understatement. It's nothing like the book! Boq is a completely different character in the book and actually good friends with Elphaba, a champion of animal rights. Get ready there's a surprise with Elphie and Fiyero which sets the stage for the second book. If they had adapted what was in the book to be the musical it would have flopped big time. Winnie Holzman, the writer took parts of it to merge with what the populace knows about The Wizard of Oz to make it appealing. As Gregory McGuire has said in interviews the play is an entirely different work and stands on its own as does the book. That's why I love them both!
samiam1432
Oh no I completely understand why it strays from the book, and think it was a wise choice. I was just like "um...wait...this isn't supposed to happen...?" Ooh a plot twist! Maybe I'll read the 2nd half quicker than the first (aka three months...)

Three months, you're doing quite well. I struggled having to reread parts over to refresh my memory and it took me over a year to finish.
