OK, so this review is not going to be very good, it's mainly going to be by character not scenes/songs.

I was a little dissapointed when I got to the evening show as I had seen the matinee too and Jana had been on, I was hoping then to see Lucy but alas, it didn't happen.

Matinee was good, they stopped the show twice, once because the Witch's father and mother's microphones didn't work, they finished NOMTW, curtain went down and then they went back to, "Are people born wicked...". They stopped it again after No Good Deed (Gutes Tun) because Willemijn was stuck in the trapdoor the whole song, so she sang it from there with the stand and book on stage the whole time. They stopped the show, got her out and carried on with March of the witch hunters.

Ok....

Willemijn: I was blown away to be honest, her vocal skills are like nothing I have heard before, it was completely effortless, but while remaining absolutely mind blowing. Her Wizard and I was single handedly the best Wizard and I, I have heard and (I've heard alot smile.gif) But what really impressed me was her Gutes Tun, the mix of emotions she portrayed were absolutely go smacking, she didn't give off the 'evil' vibe like some Elphabas do, which I like because I don't think Elphaba at this point is evil, just distraught and angry. Overall an amazing performance. Her chemistry with Jana and Mark were like nothing I have seen before.

Jana: I was dissapointed that Lucy wasn't on both shows, but Jana was great, her acting ability really shone through in No One Mourns the Wicked, she looked so distraught but when she thought someone was looking at her, she had this really forced smile, it was great. Her singing was great to, her soprano is beautiful but her belt is what really impressed me, especially on the "I couldn't be happier" at the end of Thank Goodness, because I know alot of Glinda's sing it in their headvoice (bar Kendra and few others). It was really powerful and beautiful.

Mark: He was good, but I think in London we have been a bit spoilt with Oliver. I mean Mark was fantastic as Fiyero, his voice, dancing and acting were all very good, but nothing really can compare with Oliver IMO.

Maitze Switzer: She was the Nessa u/s we had and I didn't care for her until the "Lost your heart" section of WWOTE but then she was great, she was also very tall, which made Boq (or Moq!) look even smaller which was very good.

Barbera Raunegger: She was a good Madame Morrible, her singing was good and I love how the word "hexe" sounds at the end of the DG speech, it's really haunting.

Carlo Lauber: Very small and very forgettable with only a so-so voice.

Hope you enjoyed my brief review, stage door pics to come!

Wow, those are some pretty rough technical difficulties, for two in one show.

Random question, but is SD-ing a common thing at the German production?
YourFiyero
Yeh, the technical stuff was weird, I had seen 10 shows and nothing, then 2 in one show!

I don't think Stage Dooring is common as I was the only one there after the Sunday night show...

OMG, I saw this show too and it was so fantastic. The audience reacted really cool on the two breaks. NGD was so mind-blowing although (or maybe even because) Willemijn (or rather her gown) was traped in the stage lift.

BTW: Stage-dooring is common here in Stuttgart, even if not so extreme as in London or so.

Edit: Ahhhh, some more, do you now this funny pic: "Afternoonbreak at SHIZ: Elphie is relaxing and basking". laughing.gif

I swear. Every time some posts a Willemijn review, I get a *few* twangs of jealousy... by the time I can somehow get to Stuttgart to see the show, she'll have gone!

Great review! I would have been kind of perturbed by the show-stops... especially during NGD. I would have cried, lol. smile.gif

Gahh, I would kill to see Willemijn.

^ After she's done with Wicked Germany, I have a feeling it's not the last of her in Wicked. I have a feeling she'll be Elphaba on Bway someday!

Either way, I would personally do pretty much anything to see her live... but I wonder if her intensity and fierceness would come across as well in English. You never know...

Did I spell fierceness wrong? I never do typos...

I don't think she'll get lost in translation. She's already pretty good in English, and I think most people would agree she's got the best pipes to ever grace the Elphie character since Idina, so..yeah.
FixatedOnVerdigris
^^ I completely agree, haha, so I guess I'm most people smile.gif
