If we're going to have actual stars filling all the roles, here's who I'd pick (and for me, they actually have to be able to sing reasonably well)
Elphaba - Anne Hathaway (Acting-wise, I see her playing an awesome Elphie. But singing she'd make a good Galinda, too)
Galinda - Kristen Bell
Fiyero - Jim Sturgess (some might be put off by his accent, but I love his voice!)
Nessa - Emmy Rossum
The Wizard - Peter Gallagher
Madame Morrible - Dame Judi Dench (okay... Morrible doesn't need to sing as well as the rest)
Boq - Zac Efron

Hahaha. I have to agree. Not that they aren't both talented. I actually like both of them a lot but I wouldn't want to see either in Wicked. Zac MAYBE depending on how his acting and everything has matured when the movie will be made... but I don't see Emmy in this one.

Zac is not "munchkinish" enough for Boq. Though, at the same time, he's not manly enough for Fiyero.

^The problem with Zac's acting is that he tends to get very one-sided I think. Sometimes his lines get forced and awkward. Maybe it's just HSM, because he did WAYYYY better in Hairpsray--this is coming from someone who's not a fan of him. I think I could see him as Fiyero, but not now. Definitely not now. He's more of a Melchior right now.

Yeah, I definitely don't see him as Fiyero right now - but in 5 years I think it could potentially happen. I don't see him as Boq so much tho. Boq needs to have a little "Mr.Collins" in Pride&Prejudice to him and I don't see that in him.

Yeah I don't see any Boq within him at all. And right now, he doesn't seem like he could play off let's say ex. Kerry and Kendra very well....

He looks too young right now. I don't know how old Kerry or Kendra are - but it would be an awkward match. At 25 or 26 years old, Zac might be better fit. My choices for the role in the movie were Harry Connick Jr if they go with an older cast (i.e. Idina, Kristen) and maybe James Marsden if they go with a younger cast. Patrick Wilson could also possibly fit the bill although he's already played a similarish role in Phantom...

if they do make a movie...I want the cast to be (lol this is a kicker)
Elphaba: Anne Hathaway ( I think she would be killer in this. many say she doesnt have the voice...but what have we heard her sing in? Ella Enchanted and judging from that I think she could pull it off with some proper vocal training, hades before she became "known" she was studying opera. And we wouldnt have to worry about her acting the part, she would have the sweet sincere part down pat, and have one hades of a witchy Act 2 Elphaba with many layers.)
OOORRR if Anne Hathaway couldnt do it...I think Minnie Driver...man I want her to do Broadway

Glinda: Alison M. (The girl from Phil of the Future) again, she has a very Glinda-esque voice. And her acting is pretty great. She has comedic timing...and her dramatic side (tho not perfect) is def. there, and with some practice she could also pull it off
Fiyero: Hmm, I dont want a teen pop singer in this part, but someone with a modern voice and great acting chops, and who is handsome could play this with ease (if they show layers) I think....the guy who played Corny Collins in the Hairspray movie could fit the part ( I think his name is Elijah?)
Madame Morrible: Maryl Streep...she can play very manipulitive women (Devil Wears Prada anyone?)
The Wizard: Joel Grey...he is the only one who would be age appropriate and be able to act the hades out of this part
Nessarose: Believe it or not...I think Nikki Blonsky would be great in this role. She is very pretty and has a voice. I dont know maybe I am off the target lol
Boq: Elijah Wood...he is pretty dang good.

I believe you're talking about James Marsden, but I didn't care for that movie at all so I don't really remember all the characters' names.
Actually, I really like your casting. I love Anne Hathaway, but to me she doesn't look like Elphaba, but they might be able to hide the gentleness of her features. The only one I really don't like is Nikki for Nessa. I don't find her tragically beautiful, I think she's just pretty.
Thank Goodness!

I know I'm in a little bit of a Mamma Mia! kick, but Meryl Streep would make a PERFECT Morrible imo. I could also picture Amanda Seyfried as Nessa.

Dustin you need to call her up on You Tube to see what a fantastic comedian she is. If you have BBC America on your cable or whatever you can watch her talents there. She's absolutely hilarious! You might even remember seeing her as the "Fat Lady in the Painting" in

The only way Kristin could play Glinda in the movie is if they use her for the bubble scenes and then flashback to a younger actress for the other stuff (which would be way too cheesy). Kristin is most definitely too old to play a convincing Shiz student.

I would love Kristen Bell as Glinda! Before it was announced that Erin would replace Megan in LA, I dreamt that it would be Kristen and that I'd meet her at stage-door. *sigh*
As for Anne Hathaway as Elphaba...? No thank you. I despise her. And she ruined one of my favorite novels and characters in Ella Enchanted. What a horrendible film!

If Kristin Chenoweth wants to do it then maybe they can make Glinda Krisitn's age. Glinda can be an adult going back to college. Lots of adults go back to school today.

HUGE BUMP!!!

This interview is over a year old but I thought some people might be interested.
QUOTE
EM: Can the play hold up without a scapegoating figurehead in the White House?
GM: Maybe there will be a drying up of interest, maybe part of the nourishment was that in some ways it’s a finger in the eye of a callous and unthinking administration, time will tell wont it?
EM: Obviously you wrote Wicked long before the “smoking gun as mushroom cloud” speech, before the conflation of Hussein and Bin Laden and all the rest. But do you think the echoes to the current politics helped get the play produced?
GM: 9-11 stoked up a certain kind of patriotism that promote a blindness and muteness among citizens and the more that I saw what was happening -- that we would be living under a spell for 7 years -- the less I believed that Wicked could ever get funded and ever get backers, it seemed so antithetical to what I was observing in the country.
At the stage reading, I was afraid that Wicked would require a suspension of belief in hierarchy in a time when people were clinging to the ropes of the White House ship and believing everything that was said even if it looked patently stupid.
EM: But apparently, shiny happy new President or no, there are plans to make this “finger in the eye” play into Wicked the movie (of the musical of the book about the movie and the book.)
GM: Universal plans to film Wicked the Musical for a 2014 release, but the timing is very much in the air. I also sold the rights to ABC TV to make a non-musical television version that will not be based on Winnie Holtzman’s script.
EM: Even without the political elements, Wicked is a great story about the friendship between two girls.
GM: There's no arguing that that is a very appealing aspect of the play and a good argument why people want to see it again and again. And it’s not just about young women learning to the depths of their affection for one another, its also about women -- or any disenfranchised citizen—learning their relationship in a system of power. So should the interests in the political aspects of the play dry up, there are other things in the play that continue to make it pertinent.
I hadn't really thought about a tv movie based on the book. I think ABC would do a nice job if they ever did the adaptation. They could probably do all three books and get huge ratings.

I'm really having conflicts with myself on how I'd like to see the movie made. Completely animated (cgi) or live action and cgi combo. I think both would be awesome. I'm just...Idk, I'm more worried about who they'd cast. Phantom's movie casting is so controversial to this day. I liked it but others didn't. With every other recent movie musical made by Universal casting famous movie names, do you think wicked will be the same?
clockworkgirl21
Nov 6 2011, 06:31 PM
I don't really think they cast any famous names for Phantom. Patrick Wilson had done Broadway and the HBO movie based on a play called "Angels in America", but Gerard Butler and Emmy Rossum were pretty much unknown. Gerard didn't become really famous until 300, which was two years after Phantom. Emmy had done one big movie, Mystic River, but she wasn't in it that much, and she did The Day After Tomorrow, but that movie wasn't well received.
Personally, I liked the Phantom cast. Gerard's voice wasn't great, but it wasn't terrible either, and his acting made up for it. He was so passionate. It was the first time I ever wanted to hug the Phantom because I felt so sorry for him.
Wickedly*Defying*Gravity
Nov 13 2011, 11:00 AM
^ I definitely agree with Phantom, i think Emmy and, Gerard gave a new youthful life to the story. But besides Phantom, Mama Mia and Hairspray was purely famous name casting. I actually liked it, and I wouldn't mind some big names for certain characters. I honestly won't care who they pick as long as they fit the roles and are very talented, and not just names.
clockworkgirl21
Nov 14 2011, 03:19 AM
Personally, I'd like to see young people who have never done the show before. It would be totally new to everyone.
Heck, it might help if they haven't even seen the show. One reason why the director of Phantom liked Emmy Rossum was because she had never even seen the show, so she had no idea how one should play Christine. It was totally her own interpretation.
