Orch Center Row C
One understudy- Bryan West as Fiyero
Before the show, my friends and I had dinner at Urth Cafe, a cool little place on Melrose. And guess who we saw? Kristin Chenoweth
Alright, now for the show. It was my first time seeing Eden in Wicked (i've seen her in Flora the Red menace and worked with her at the Chance benefit) and my 3rd time seeing Megan.
NOMTW- I was so happy to see Megan back! The last time I saw the show was with Erin and Teal, and while Erin was wonderful, I couldn't help but feel ecstatic to see Megan again. She got a great amount of applause and her voice was beautiful, certainly better than her May 11th show, but understandably so. i think it was at the end on this song that the ensemble popped confetti strings into the audience. I haven't kept up with the recent reviews on here, so can anyone tell my why they did that? I figured it was to celebrate the 5th anniversary or for BC/EFA.
DOS/Classroom- Eden came out to so great applause as well. I really love her portrayal of the role. And it's cute that she sings along. Megan is amazing. I'm glad she toned it down a little bit, yet she still has the audience rolling. Megan knew we were friends of Eden so when she did her little leg kicks, she out her hand on her hips and winked at me
TWAI- Oh Eden, why can't i sing like you?? Chills...
WITF- This is usually the scene where you can get a feel for the chemistry between the two leads. and naturally, eden and Megan are flawless. Definitely the best chemistry I've seen in the show. I love how Eden imitates Megan's powdering-of-the face and then Megan does it immediate afterwards. This is always my favorite scene choreography-wise.
SB- Great as always.
DTL- I've seen Kris and Derrick and loved them both. And I'm so glad I got to see Bryan West last night because he is amaaazing! His voice sounds a little like Sebastian Arcelus at some parts (who I love). He's a great dancer and overall, brings a great sense of charm to the character. So I hope you guys get the chance to see him! And he's definitely attractive...
Popular- AH! I can't decide which popular was better: Megan's May 11th one or last night's. I missed her so much! Haha! Besides all the amazing quirks she does in this scene normally, there was a hilarious blooper. When Megan picks up her wand off the bed to transform Elphaba's dress into a ball-gown, the wand flipped Eden's glasses (which were laying on the bed) high into the air and down center stage. Neither Eden nor Megan noticed it happened until Megan stepped away from the bed and noticed them on the stage. She stood there looking at them for a few seconds, just staring and then said "Ohhhhh. What are thoossee?" (the funny part was that she was genuinely confused since she hadn't seen them fly into the air) *pause* "Oh those are your glasses! I keep doing that, don't I?" The audience went into hysterics, especially when Eden just stood there trying to hold down her laughs but failing miserably. They just stood there looking at each other trying not to laugh. I love those moments in theatre...where the actors and the audience are just laughing, enjoying the moment together. So Megan finally gained some control and said "Shhh...I need to concentrate," which of course had everyone laugh even more. So she did some crouches and went into her breathy ballgoooooown thing. Yeah it was pretty much amazing.
INTG- It was beautiful, Eden is one of the best at hitting the last note.
OSD- I always love this scene! This time was no different. i love how Eden plays along with Megan here, acting kinda girly becasue she's so excited.
Meeting the Wizard/SM- Ok another blooper! When David Garrison comes out from behind the giant head, Eden walked over to the head and pointed at one of the eyebrows, it was just hanging there on one hinge haha! I don't think the audience (including myself) even noticed it until Eden pointed it out. She just kinda poked it, and went "Uhh..." trying not to laugh but it really looked ridiculous. Then David said "I know, it needs a little work." It was hilarious. It just hung there for the entire scene.
DG- Loved, loved, loved it. Eden is just plain amazing.
TG- Megan was great, as always. Sorry i'm getting tired haha so my details will be minimal now.
WWOTE- I forget what songs this one is between so I'll just stick it here. Hm, I'm not sure I like Briana's Nessa all that much. I really wanted to, but I didn't think she was angry enough in this scene. I guess I didn't feel the emotion I should have felt as she sang. I usually feel sympathetic for a second when Marcie sings "Longing to kick up my heels..", but I didn't feel it as much with Briana.
Wonderful- I forgot to mention how much I love David Garrison as the Wizard. His Wonderful was so fun. I can't decide who I prefer, John Rubenstein or David.
INTGR- Megan always sings this so beautifully. I missed hearing a Glinda go down on the last note since the last time I saw it, Erin went up.
ALAYM- I looove Bryan and Eden together in this song. Bryan is perfection here, he did some great riffs. An I'm not sure what Eden did technically-speaking because I'm not famailiar with vocal terms, but she went up on the last few measures which I've never heard, and thus did not expect. But I LOVED it. I think it was the best ALAYM I've ever heard.
NGD- As it has been said plenty of time before, this really is Eden's song. It was the fiercest i've ever seen, but I think Caissie's riffs in her last NGD was the best I've ever heard. You can really tell Eden is taking the lower notes in this song, as some other people have noticed since she returned. But I really like it
MOTWH- I always love this song. Eddie Rioseco, (I finally looked it up) didn't crack at all. He wasn't as strong as Michael was here, but I loved him nevertheless.
FG- Loved it, sad as always.
Finale- Aw, so great. Overall, it was a tied with may 11th as the best show I've seen.
Megan gave a little speech for BC/EFA which was hilarious. Eden said a few funny things as well, I wish I remembered it. they are giving "Boq-stage Tours" to rasie money fro BC/EFA, they didn't say how much they were though. Maybe $500 like the tours were earlier this year?
We were going to go backstage to visit Eden, but we didn't want to deal with the chaos of the tours so we told her we'd be back again soon
Ok that was way longer than I intended, hope you liked it!
