Just wondering what you guys thought. My favorite is Gilikin, though The Murder and its Afterlife comes in a close second -- plus, it has the best name

The Murder and it's Afterlife. Everything about it gives me chills. And it has a cool picture.

Gillikin, easily. City of Emeralds probably comes in second.

I couldn't decide between City of Emerald and In the Vinkus. I love both.

Much of "Gilikin" has me bored to death as I read it. Gregory Maguire really needs to grasp the beauty that can only be found with the simpler, subtler sentence structures. I think that statement only made sense to me.

That last three sections are my favorite.

It made sense to me. I thought all of Gregory's writing was overly verbose and tedious. Reading his works is a chore for me.

I had to choose The Murder and Its Afterlife! Sorry, i voted here before, but didnt comment!
Seriously, since Act 2 of Wicked has always been my favorite, The Murder and Its Afterlife is right behind it! I love it so much because it reflects so much of her witch-yness. lol

I agree about Maguire's writing style. It's even worse in Mirror, Mirror, which I didn't finish.

lol well I am a huuuggge Fiyeraba addict.. huge huge.
(Ahem. I will admit. I am such a junkie that when I wanted graphics for a fic I was making cookies and spilled out perfectly good flour to write Yero + Fae in my flour.. >.<)
So no contest there. However I liked all of the book except the end. Elphie's my fave charie and I saw the musical before I knew anything about the book so the ending was a (no pun intended) cold bucket of water over the head. I spent the next few weeks hating bookverse but finally learned to see them as two seprate entities and appreciate both.
I liked it most I think simply because for the first time someone wanted Elphie and taught her how to love and be loved..

His writing structure is very dull at times. I thought the concept of
Mirror, Mirror was phenomenal, but the novel just didn't work. I've never gotten through it myself, either.

My personal favorite was the Gilikin. I really liked City of Emeralds too.

Definitely "The Murder and it's afterlife", second is "City of Emeralds".
I don't know why, I guess, I just love the Witchyness of Elphie in that part...
