Hello everyone!

Analysis threads will be made with the following restrictions:

Analysis threads will sit in the Wicked Musical Shows section for one week. Afterward, they will remain open in the Retired Threads section for further reviewing (see above).

Please keep in mind the rules of the forum. You can find the rules here: http://www.witchesofoz.com/wicked_boards/i...showtopic=32185

Talking about seeing or hearing illegal recordings is NOT ALLOWED on this forum. It's not ok to say "Every time I hear Eden's last, I cry" because that refers to an illegal recording because there is no legal recording of her last. But if you say something like "I love Kristin's voice, its very pure and wonderful. I wish I could have seen her live" we will probably leave it alone because you could be referring to the OBC or her Tony performance or something like that. But please, do us a favor and look over your posts before hitting submit. It is very easy to slip up and not realize you have mentioned something illegal.

We don't want to get rid of the Analysis threads because every actor deserves a thread full of praises and even some constructive criticism. However, please remember that cast members, their families, and friends view the boards. Remember that when you criticize a performer. There is a difference between constructive criticism and outright bashing.

If you've read this entire post, you deserve a cookie or something. Thank you all and let's get to posting shall we?
ForGood
Having separate threads for each performer is kind of the point of the whole thing. Having one thread for the Elphabas will inevitably lead to comparisons between them instead of analyzing each of them individually.
lessthanthree
The staff has made a decision to consolidate the threads, as there are over 50 performers per character, and having over 200 Performer Analysis threads would be a little hectic.

To all posters: please try to be mature when posting in this thread, aka no malicious attacks towards performers and or other members of this forum.

Any questions, comments, or suggestions can be emailed to woostaff@gmail.com

Thank you.
ForGood
I'm honestly wondering why the mods are making such a big deal about it. This is a Wicked forum. What's wrong with analyzing individual performers/performances in Wicked? Like I said, one thread per character defeats the purpose. I don't think there would have been that many threads because as far as I knew, we were only doing it for Elphabas and Glindas.
blueberry_jam
The individual threads per actress were what made them, in my opinion, almost drama free (until the whole b00tleg thing) because - for the most part - it didn't turn into a "no, Eden is better! No Idina is better! No, so and so's portrayal of sweet instead of angry was better etc etc etc" fight like a lot of the "portrayal" threads I've read. To make it all in one post kind of... defeats that point, you know? Because the point wasn't comparison - which is inevitable when you have people talking about a dozen or more actresses in one role - it was analysis of each performer. To be honest I hadn't seen more thoughtful threads and comments on people's performances here before, without it eventually turning into a bashfest for someone that brought in another actress.

I realize there's a lot of performers, but maybe a mod can "officially" make the posts once a week or something, so there isn't 1978343 threads at the same time? like one week, start a thread for Eden and Annaleigh Ashford, and the next, Idina and Megan, etc etc etc.
ForGood
Amen. I think two new threads per week (one for an Elphaba, one for a Glinda) would work well and be a nice compromise. smile.gif
lessthanthree
That sounds good.

Thanks for the idea!

We will discuss this and finalize it with the mods.
WickedlyAsh
Yes, good suggestion, that's a good compromise smile.gif

I'll put together the first set now...they'll sit in Wicked Musical Shows for a week, then will probably be sent to the Hall of Fame as we move onto the next Elphaba and Glinda.

Any preference on whether or not they be pinned for the week they're open?
ForGood
Thanks, I appreciate it. smile.gif
Tayzer
Just wondering, any thought on if we're going to do standbys and understudies, or just leads?
Wickedly*Defying*Gravity
^I think we could do seperate lead threads and then just one Elphaba standby/us and one Glinda standby/us thread.
ForGood
Again, I don't like the idea of one thread per character because it would lead to comparison.

Another question: will the threads be locked once the're moved to the HOF?
WickedlyAsh
^We'll continue to play it by ear as we figure all of this out, but right now I believe the answer is no, they will not be locked once they reach the HOF. If someone happens to miss a week on the boards, it doesn't mean they shouldn't have the right to comment on a performer.

Again, this is subject to change, but this is how I see it: in one week, the Idina and Kristin threads will be merged with the old ones already in the HOF, and will be made open for continued discussion without cluttering the Wicked Musical Shows section. Then, we will open new threads for another Elphaba and Glinda here, and the cycle will continue.

Is that what people would generally like to see?
defying_limits
^i think that sounds good cause it allows for people to continue to discuss after the week has past smile.gif

keeping everyone happy smile.gif
ForGood
That sounds good, Ash.
Cat123
Sounds good! Will you just be opening threads for US performers?? *would love and excuse to fangirl Dianne Pilkington* laugh.gif
WickedlyAsh
We'll include analysis threads for all of the productions, it will just take a bit of time to get around to everyone, doing only one pair per week smile.gif

EDIT: Yeroismyhero and I have agreed that, starting next week, we will be randomly picking which Elphaba and Glinda will be analyzed. That way, many different productions should be recognized, and we want to avoid getting flooded with requests for a certain performer. So know that, after this week, all analysis threads will be picked randomly and objectively.

Further, I know someone asked about understudies and standbys and whether we'd be including them in this. For now, as there are 21 Elphaba's and 17 Glinda's that are/were leads, that's plenty to keep us busy for now. But if people are still interested in the Performer Analysis threads once we get through the leads, we'd be happy to continue on with standbys and understudies.

Ooh, you mods really know how to read a guy's mind. I also thought the Elphaba/Glinda should be picked at random as well. Can't wait to see some more of my favorites pop up there... cool.gif
Yeroismyhero
^^ That is awesome! Yeah, we were just trying to think of ways to spruce the threads up a bit. And doing it at random will make for some interesting pairings and that might even bring up more possibilities for discussion.

We're trying to keep WoO a fun happenin' place. Oh wow, did I really just say that? Yeah... I need sleep. Pronto.
Teal-Shade-of-Eden
I would simply die if Hamada Megumi and Lucy Scherer were chosen at the same time. lol_2.gif
WickedlyAsh
Alright guys, Idina and Kristin have been moved to the Retired Threads section (but are still open for continued discussion), and new threads have been opened for this week's Elphaba and Glinda: Dee Roscioli and Lucy Scherer!

Links to previous weeks' analyses can now be found in the first post.
WickedlyAsh
Sorry for the double post, but just announcing that Dee and Lucy Scherer have been moved to the Retired Threads section (links are found in the first post of this thread), and new topics have been added to review this week's Elphaba and Glinda: Stephanie J. Block and Christina DeCicco!
Phantom
I read the whole post and have decided i want a cookie. A chocolate chip one biggrin.gif
Yeroismyhero
Great! Now do you want it made from scratch, do you want a Nestle Toll House cookie, or should I make a trip to Mrs. Fields? haha.
WickedlyAsh
Stephanie and Christina have been moved to the retired threads section for continued discussion (see first post in this thread for links) to make room for this week's Elphaba and Glinda: Marcie Dodd and Miyuki Numao!
Teal-Shade-of-Eden
I think this week's Elphaba/Glinda pair is the oddest combination yet!
WickedlyAsh
^Haha, very true smile.gif

"Odd couple" Marcie and Miyuki have been moved to the retired threads forum (as always, links are in the first post of this thread) to make room for this week's Elphaba and Glinda: Shoshana Bean and Erin Mackey!
WickedlyAsh
New week, time for a new pair! Shoshana and Erin have been moved to the retired threads section (links are in the first post of this thread) to make room for this week's Elphaba and Glinda: Hamada Megumi and Kate Reinders!
Teal-Shade-of-Eden
After the leads have been thoroughly analyzed, are we going to have threads for standbys and then understudies?
WickedlyAsh
Theoretically, yes. But we've still got about 3 or 4 more months of doing this for the leads, so we'll reassess once we hit that point. But if the interest is still there, sure smile.gif
WickedlyAsh
Alright folks, Kate ane Megumi have been "retired" (links to their analyses can be found in the first post of this thread for continued discussion) to make way for this week's pair: Donna Vivino and Kendra Kassebaum! Enjoy!
Teal-Shade-of-Eden
Why is it that Tour leads are always paired together? Coincidence or Conspiracy? Hmm...
Cat123
I like these threads! I like reading them anyway! I'm waiting for a performer I can actually comment on!
WickedlyAsh
^I'm glad you guys are having fun with these threads, we'll keep them going!

Donna and Kendra have been retired (links to their threads, as always, can be found in the first post of this thread). And now I present you with this week's Elphaba and Glinda: Willemijn Verkaik and Helen Dallimore!
WickedlyAsh
Alright ya'll, Helen and Willemijn have been retired (links to their analyses can be found in the first post of this thread) to make way for this week's Elphaba and Glinda: Julia Murney and Stacie Morgain Lewis.
WickedlyAsh
Haha, I'm triple-posting now...oh well...

Alright everyone, Julia and Stacie have now been 'retired' (links to their threads can be found in the first post of this thread) to make room for this week's Elphaba and Glinda: Ana Gasteyer and Jennifer Laura Thompson!
WickedlyAsh
Wow, I'm at like quadruple post now...oops...

Anyway, Ana and JLT have been "retired" (links to their analyses can be found in the first post of this thread) to make way for this week's Elphaba and Glinda: Victoria Matlock and Dianne Pilkington! Go to it!
Yeroismyhero
Thanks for always being so on top of this Ash! smile.gif

(There, now you won't quint-tiple post?? gosh is that even a word? hahaha)
WickedlyAsh
^Haha, thanks for saving me, much appreciated smile.gif

So per usual, Victoria and Dianne have been moved to our retired threads sections (links to their analyses are in the first post of this thread) to make room for this week's Elphaba and Glinda: Asami Higuchi and Katie Rose Clarke!
Teal-Shade-of-Eden
I'm just curious, but how are you guys choosing them at random? Are a hat and slips of paper involved? tongue.gif
WickedlyAsh

I'm just curious, but how are you guys choosing them at random? Are a hat and slips of paper involved? tongue.gif

Haha, pretty close tongue.gif Actually, each actress was assigned a number, then a random number generator was used to pick the order.

So KRC and Asami have been moved to the Retired Threads section (as always, links to their threads are available in the first post of this thread) and this week's Elphaba and Glinda have now been posted: Amanda Harrison and Annaleigh Ashford!
WickedlyAsh
Alright all, Amanda and Annaleigh have been retired (links to their threads are in the first post of this thread) to make way for this week's randomly selected Elphaba and Glinda: Eden Espinosa and Megan Hilty! (randomly selected, I swear!)

Hahaha quite a coincidence tongue.gif
Teal-Shade-of-Eden
It's a great coincidence! I need to take time to analyze Megan, though. tongue.gif
WickedlyAsh
^Agreed, agreed, quite the amusing coincidence smile.gif

So the Eden/Megan duo have been retired (links to their threads are in the first post of this thread) to make way for this week's Elphaba and Glinda: Kerry Ellis and Alli Mauzey! Enjoy!
WickedlyAsh
Happy Monday everyone smile.gif And we all know what Monday means....Kerry and Alli have been retired (check out the Retired Threads section to find their analyses-links in the first post of this thread) to make way for this week's Elphaba and Glinda: Lisa Brescia and Asako Tomada!

So just another thought I'd like people's feedback on...amazingly enough, we've gone through almost all of the lead Elphabas and Glindas (by my count -including this week- we have 7 Elphabas and 4 Glindas yet). So, that poses the question of what the board would like to do afterward. If everyone's kind of through with the analysis threads, just say so and I'll stop doing them. If people would want to move onto two other leads, I could certainly try that, would have to do a bit of research to find full lists (I would assume you'd want Fiyero and ???).

Or, as some people originally mentioned, we could move forward with Elphaba/Glinda understudies and standbys. I've made a list of those in case that's that you wanted, so that wouldn't be a problem. But just thinking out loud, I realize fewer people would be able to speak to s/b and u/s because they've been on far less often in most cases. So if we were to go with understudies and standbys, would it make more sense to only have them up for 3 or 4 days, going through two pairs a week?

So anyway, feedback is much appreciated if you'd like to drop the analysis threads after the leads, if you'd rather go onto two more characters with lead roles, or if you'd like to move onto standbys and understudies. Thanks for the feedback!
Phantom
I don't think the PA threads should be dropped at all Ash. You have done such a great job with these and i think all the members will agree.

In terms of Standbys/Understudies - I think the ones that have been longest or we know have gone on alot should maybe get the full week and ones who are fairly new and haven't had much showtime should get 3-4 days.
Yeroismyhero
It would be kind of cool to do like Fiyeros/Nessas. They aren't really pairs but it would be a fun differentiation. (If that is even how you spell that...haha) But you know what I mean.
dustomino
I'm cool with standbys and understudies smile.gif.
blueberry_jam
I think it would be cool to do other character's (Fiyero, Nessa, Boq, etc) lead actors and actresses, and once those run out, go for Elphaba/Glinda standbys.
