Having separate threads for each performer is kind of the point of the whole thing. Having one thread for the Elphabas will inevitably lead to comparisons between them instead of analyzing each of them individually.

Jan 6 2009, 06:06 AM
The staff has made a decision to consolidate the threads, as there are over 50 performers per character, and having over 200 Performer Analysis threads would be a little hectic.
To all posters: please try to be mature when posting in this thread, aka no malicious attacks towards performers and or other members of this forum.

I'm honestly wondering why the mods are making such a big deal about it. This is a Wicked forum. What's wrong with analyzing individual performers/performances in Wicked? Like I said, one thread per character defeats the purpose. I don't think there would have been that many threads because as far as I knew, we were only doing it for Elphabas and Glindas.

The individual threads per actress were what made them, in my opinion, almost drama free (until the whole b00tleg thing) because - for the most part - it didn't turn into a "no, Eden is better! No Idina is better! No, so and so's portrayal of sweet instead of angry was better etc etc etc" fight like a lot of the "portrayal" threads I've read. To make it all in one post kind of... defeats that point, you know? Because the point wasn't comparison - which is inevitable when you have people talking about a dozen or more actresses in one role - it was analysis of each performer. To be honest I hadn't seen more thoughtful threads and comments on people's performances here before, without it eventually turning into a bashfest for someone that brought in another actress.
I realize there's a lot of performers, but maybe a mod can "officially" make the posts once a week or something, so there isn't 1978343 threads at the same time? like one week, start a thread for Eden and Annaleigh Ashford, and the next, Idina and Megan, etc etc etc.

Amen. I think two new threads per week (one for an Elphaba, one for a Glinda) would work well and be a nice compromise.

That sounds good.
Thanks for the idea!
We will discuss this and finalize it with the mods.

Jan 6 2009, 06:52 AM
Yes, good suggestion, that's a good compromise

I'll put together the first set now...they'll sit in Wicked Musical Shows for a week, then will probably be sent to the Hall of Fame as we move onto the next Elphaba and Glinda.
Any preference on whether or not they be pinned for the week they're open?

Just wondering, any thought on if we're going to do standbys and understudies, or just leads?
Wickedly*Defying*Gravity
Jan 6 2009, 11:19 AM
^I think we could do seperate lead threads and then just one Elphaba standby/us and one Glinda standby/us thread.
ForGood
Jan 6 2009, 08:27 PM
Again, I don't like the idea of one thread per character because it would lead to comparison.
Another question: will the threads be locked once the're moved to the HOF?
WickedlyAsh
Jan 6 2009, 08:54 PM
^We'll continue to play it by ear as we figure all of this out, but right now I believe the answer is no, they will not be locked once they reach the HOF. If someone happens to miss a week on the boards, it doesn't mean they shouldn't have the right to comment on a performer.
Again, this is subject to change, but this is how I see it: in one week, the Idina and Kristin threads will be merged with the old ones already in the HOF, and will be made open for continued discussion without cluttering the Wicked Musical Shows section. Then, we will open new threads for another Elphaba and Glinda here, and the cycle will continue.
Is that what people would generally like to see?

Jan 6 2009, 10:06 PM
^i think that sounds good cause it allows for people to continue to discuss after the week has past

We'll include analysis threads for all of the productions, it will just take a bit of time to get around to everyone, doing only one pair per week

EDIT: Yeroismyhero and I have agreed that, starting next week, we will be randomly picking which Elphaba and Glinda will be analyzed. That way, many different productions should be recognized, and we want to avoid getting flooded with requests for a certain performer. So know that, after this week, all analysis threads will be picked randomly and objectively.
Further, I know someone asked about understudies and standbys and whether we'd be including them in this. For now, as there are 21 Elphaba's and 17 Glinda's that are/were leads, that's plenty to keep us busy for now. But if people are still interested in the Performer Analysis threads once we get through the leads, we'd be happy to continue on with standbys and understudies.

Ooh, you mods really know how to read a guy's mind. I also thought the Elphaba/Glinda should be picked at random as well. Can't wait to see some more of my favorites pop up there...

^^ That is awesome! Yeah, we were just trying to think of ways to spruce the threads up a bit. And doing it at random will make for some interesting pairings and that might even bring up more possibilities for discussion.
We're trying to keep WoO a fun happenin' place. Oh wow, did I really just say that? Yeah... I need sleep. Pronto.

Theoretically, yes. But we've still got about 3 or 4 more months of doing this for the leads, so we'll reassess once we hit that point. But if the interest is still there, sure

Haha, pretty close

Actually, each actress was assigned a number, then a random number generator was used to pick the order.
So KRC and Asami have been moved to the Retired Threads section (as always, links to their threads are available in the first post of this thread) and this week's Elphaba and Glinda have now been posted: Amanda Harrison and Annaleigh Ashford!

Apr 20 2009, 11:27 AM
Happy Monday everyone

And we all know what Monday means....Kerry and Alli have been retired (check out the Retired Threads section to find their analyses-links in the first post of this thread) to make way for this week's Elphaba and Glinda: Lisa Brescia and Asako Tomada!
So just another thought I'd like people's feedback on...amazingly enough, we've gone through almost all of the lead Elphabas and Glindas (by my count -including this week- we have 7 Elphabas and 4 Glindas yet). So, that poses the question of what the board would like to do afterward. If everyone's kind of through with the analysis threads, just say so and I'll stop doing them. If people would want to move onto two other leads, I could certainly try that, would have to do a bit of research to find full lists (I would assume you'd want Fiyero and ???).
Or, as some people originally mentioned, we could move forward with Elphaba/Glinda understudies and standbys. I've made a list of those in case that's that you wanted, so that wouldn't be a problem. But just thinking out loud, I realize fewer people would be able to speak to s/b and u/s because they've been on far less often in most cases. So if we were to go with understudies and standbys, would it make more sense to only have them up for 3 or 4 days, going through two pairs a week?
So anyway, feedback is much appreciated if you'd like to drop the analysis threads after the leads, if you'd rather go onto two more characters with lead roles, or if you'd like to move onto standbys and understudies. Thanks for the feedback!

I don't think the PA threads should be dropped at all Ash. You have done such a great job with these and i think all the members will agree.
In terms of Standbys/Understudies - I think the ones that have been longest or we know have gone on alot should maybe get the full week and ones who are fairly new and haven't had much showtime should get 3-4 days.
Yeroismyhero
Apr 20 2009, 06:24 PM
It would be kind of cool to do like Fiyeros/Nessas. They aren't really pairs but it would be a fun differentiation. (If that is even how you spell that...haha) But you know what I mean.

I think it would be cool to do other character's (Fiyero, Nessa, Boq, etc) lead actors and actresses, and once those run out, go for Elphaba/Glinda standbys.
