A friend couldn't make the show so he sent me his ticket for the matinee today.
Few technical difficulties
First, the bubble didn't come when it was supposed to again so the ensemble improvised till it finally decided to come down.
Second, during "Defying Gravity". Dee, well, didn't. She rocked it out on the ground but it was the first time it had ever happened at a show I saw and
Third, the rope that Fiyero swings in on during the catfight scene wasn't there so I have no idea what Kevin did exactly but it was really awkward.
I think Katie is starting to grow on me.

This happened to Ana Gasteyer in Chicago. She ran to the stage and the guards just fell down like usual and looked at her and just had to act like she was flying and such.

Saw the matinee today. Andy is a great Fiyero--probably my favorite behind Sebastian. He had pretty good chemistry with Dee and Katie but it'll only get better. He also has really great stage presence
No technical difficulties today which made me reallllly happy.

SO much for being over the show. A friend who hadn't seen it on Broadway since Eden came to the evening show with me since I won lotto. Jenny was so fierce! I'd forgotten how amazing her belt is. I've seen Dee so much lately that I hadn't really heard a lot of riffs but Jenny riffed a few times which I loved especially the riff she did during the second "fiyero" in NGD. She, Katie and Andy had pretty good chemistry. Loved "As Long As You're Mine". Andy stumbled over a line during "Dancing Through Life" he sang "woes are fleeting blows are glancing...through life"--it was kind of funny.
No disrespect intended to Eddie but I realllllllly don't like his Boq...at all.

A couple of my friends saw the show last night (2/26) and they loved it! They said that Katies shoe flew off during Popular and it landed in the pit! She then just took off her other shoe and put it on the bed, but everytime she bounced on the bed the show would fall off the bed. And when she was trying to transform Elphaba's frock into a ballgown she said something like "BALLGOWWWN...SHOESS" while pointing to her feet with the wand. Haha I love her already! I cant wait to see her! And they also said that Dee was fantastic. Just thought I would share this with everyone

(yay the boards are back lol!)
Saw the matinee show Saturday 3/13 and it was fantastic...the cast was on fire...Katie, Dee, and Andy were all pretty much on form...Dee did a little riff in TWAI when she sang "no one thinks you're strange" and of course I was face-melted by her "Fiyerooo!" in NGD...Andy threw in a riff when he sang "when you're dancing through li-iiffe!" and I loved it! He had great chemistry with KRC and Dee (ALAYM was smokin' haha)
Loved "Popular"..Katie did her "toss-toss" then did this funny little arm pump and whispers "yes!" like she actually got it right haha..Dee did it too and the audience loved it.
I went to stand at SD after the show, but it really was just terrible weather (hence why I am sick right now)...but neways, me and this other girl got to go inside the SD b/c it was so bad out and we waited to see if anyone was gonna come down. Sure enough, Dee came down and she signed my playbill and we took pictures...bless her for being such a sweet lady! <3
All in all, great day and altho I am sick atm, it was worth it to see Dee before she leaves!

Saw the show tonight since I thought it would be my last time seeing Dee but my trip got postponed
Brian Munn-Dr. Dillamond
Michael DeVries- The Wizard
Alexander Quiroga- Witches Father
Two highlights--Defying Gravity--Dee and Katie were really emotional at the start of the song and Katie's face was red throughout--I can't even imagine how sad sunday is going to be.
For Good--Katie was sobbing here too--Dee wiped them away with her hand..so sad..
Loved Michael!Wizard and Brian!Dillamond..wasn't so fond of Alexander

Saw the show last night. Mandy was fantastic! Loved everything about her performance. Defying Gravity was perfect, definitely her best song of the night. KRC was amazing as usual.
Didn't really care for Andy or Jenny but I loved everyone else.
There was a small technical difficulty in the beginning of Act 2: After TG the sets for WWOTE came on but nothng happened for a good minute, then the curtain came down and an announcement was made. The show started a mnute later. The first time something like that has happened in the 21 times I've seen the show.

I saw the show on Thursday, and I have to say it was a truly amazing performance. Perhaps it was because it was my twentieth time seeing the show (overall), but everything was perfect.
I adore Mandy's Elphaba so much. I love how she is someone who you can tell feels like she's let down everyone and feels the sting of it, but is still hopeful that the Wizard will finally allow her to feel like she hasn't let everyone down. I just love her progression and how angry she can be at time, it's just perfect. I've seen people call her 'wooden' and I honestly do not see wooden, whatsoever. Also, vocally, she is fabulous. Her voice is just perfection, in my opinion.
Katie Rose had me in hysterics (once again) during 'Popular'. She is apparently still kind of sick, so she was unable to hit the high note in 'Thank Goodness', which you could tell got to her. I adore her Glinda, and I keep finding new things to love about her every time.
Kathy Fitzgerald was fabulous. I loved her so much, she truly was a breath of fresh air and I loved how from the moment they meet, her Morrible can't stand Galinda and it shows. Loved her so much.
I love Andy's Fiyero, because he's just perfect for the role in every way. Love his voice and his acting. Andy's continuing to nudge/hit Alex during 'Dancing Through Life' was hysterical. Next time you see the show, look for it. IT'S HILARIOUS.
Jenny and Alex have become my favorite Nessarose/Boq, because they just are too adorable/perfect for words. It seems unpopular to like Jenny, but I really love her.
PJ needs to leave. I'm so bored with him, and I personally think he's bored with the role. However, with Kathy, it was a nice change and gave him a bit more animated/fresh.

I actually disagree... I saw the show on Tuesday and for the first time saw P.J. bring new light to the character. I think people don't pay attention to him as much since he's such a small character (I even fault myself for that). I've seen that man almost 20 times in that role since 2006. Also, I find it really rude to say someone "needs to leave." It's a job.
Elphie T.
Jul 10 2010, 05:31 PM
I completely disagree about P.J. as well. He was my favorite Wizard, and the only one that really pulled me into the character. You're bored with him because you've seen the same interpretation a trillion times. That's the only reason why he seems bored with his character (which I can bet you he's not.) Most of Wicked's audience only sees the show once, MAYBE twice.

I agree.
When I said he needs to leave, I never meant it to mean he should just leave because I'm not liking his performance, I feel like he generally seems bored and his talents would be much more fitted for new material. I know he will not be leaving anytime soon, but I feel like he could be used elsewhere.
I have seen him many times, and I will agree he was a lot more animated and fresh Thursday (which I did note in my review). However, you are correct, I've seen him too much and thus my opinion is biased.

^ I'm going to go ahead and sort of reiterate what I posted earlier. After seeing someone's interpretation of a role for so long, whether they change it up or not, it's bound to get boring. I'd say 90% of people who see the show do not come back more than once or twice. I'm not so much defending P.J. (though I though he was fantastic) as I'm trying to say that the cast's job is not to keep the people who've seen the show 10, 20, or even 50 times pleased. Sorry if the tone of this post isn't exactly friendly, but I just wanted to get that out there.

I see both sides. Sometimes I've seen someone in a role just once and they bored me. It's their responsibility to not phone in. I've seen other people multiple times who didn't change their portrayal much, but never phoned in and were always fun to watch. Rondi Reed was a perfect example of the latter. As for PJ, I've only seen him twice and he didn't leave much of an impression on me either way.

I saw Alli 21 times as Glinda and guess what. I never got bored with her. She changed it up all the time. I guess it's easier for someone portraying Glinda though since that role is a lot bigger. A better example would be Critsy Candler as Nessa. I saw her 35 times and never got bored with her either.

I saw the show today and had a great time.
I liked Mandy's singing a lot, especially Defying Gravity and No Good Deed. She seemed to rush some of her dialogue which made her comedic timing a bit off.
Laura Woyasz was on as Glinda. I was a little disappointed at first because I had been looking forward to seeing Katie Rose Clarke, but I enjoyed her performance.
Bryan West was on as Fiyero. His performance was fine, but didn't stick out to me as being great.
I also really liked Jenny as Nessarose.
Mandy was really sweet at the stage door

This was only my second time seeing Wicked, so I didn't have much to compare it too, but I think I liked the Dee/Erin cast I saw last time better. But I still really enjoyed going today.

Some quick notes on today's matinee: 4/23/11
CAST:
Elphaba- Teal Wicks
Glinda: *Laura Woyasz
Nessarose: Jenny Fellner
Boq: Etai BenSchlomo
Fiyero: Richard H Blake
Dillamond: Tom Flynn
Morrible: *Betsy Werbel
Wizard: PJ Benjamin
Just some general notes:
-Laura is a very pretty Glinda. Her "good news, good news!" at the end of NOMTW reminded me a lot of Alli Mauzey. "Popular" was quite bouncy/hyper- and I love her little beauty pagent queen wave that she does! Overall, I enjoyed seeing her today, as I have already seen Katie last year.
-Teal. Oh, Teal, what can I say? She came out that door guns a' blazing! A bit angry for my taste...she literally flung that suitcase down stage! But overall, I really did enjoy getting to see her! She has quite a few of Eden's mannerisms in her (i.e the anger lol) Oh, and I was SO glad she went up an octave on her ending DG note....I'm basically in love with that now! Oh, and during "For Good" she kissed Laura's hand twice....I was like "AWW!" lol
-Richard and Etai- good to see them again! I saw them in Boston back in October on tour. I think Richard has become my favorite Fiyero. He has these little sparks of charm that just come out! Not the strongest voice maybe, but good nonetheless. Oh, and he has longer hair now, which, I think makes him look GOOD! lol As for Etai, I liked him again too! So cute and quirky as Boq!
- Betsy was...different as Morrible. Almost like this youthful quality! But overall good performance. PJ....well, after seeing him 4 times at this point....not much to be reported here! But he did put in a good effort today, so, points for that!
-Jenny, like Richard, also has longer hair now. She looks very pretty! Still not a fierce Nessa, but I enjoyed seeing her again in the role.

Saw the show last night. So happy to have Teal and Katie Rose back together.
This break that Katie Rose had did wonders for her. She was just her normal self again. So hyper and crazy in Popular. So emotional in For Good(Poor Teal couldn't stop crying either)
Teal was so on last night. She didn't do the "Tell them how I" riff that I want her to start doing again but did the "Defying Gravity" riff as well as the higher 2nd "Bring me down" and the CRAZY ending.
