3/11/09 matinee summary...EPIC WIN FOLKS...
Nicole and Alli were fabulous today. I ended up being (somewhat) impressed by Kevin too..I had a fabulous seat in Orch B so that made it a great view of all the expressions lol..Nicole gave a fierce performance and Alli was on game as well..Jayne, Alex, and Cristy were good (I had seen Cristy before and she kind of grew on me) and this was my 2nd time seeing PJ as the Wizard..
then..the unexpected shock/surprise I have ever gotten..
I headed to stage door after the show (my dad was waiting there and the rain stopped so we figured why not go lol)..I got autographs from Alex Brightman and Cristy Candler..then..some guy comes out and asks for "Alison"..he looked at me and I told him I was Alyssa and then he escorts my dad and I inside...next thing I know we are on the elevator going up to the stage with Alli Mauzey (i just about died lol..she was so sweet and signed my playbill and took a picture)..then..the magic..I was ON STAGE at the Gershwin..waiting to meet Nicole Parker..
Kevin Kern came by so I got a autograph/pic with him on stage..then..Nicole was there..ladies and gentlemen..if there isn't anyone more giving, kind, patient, and sweet as her..I dont know what to say lol..so here's how it went down..
Nicole had received the letter I wrote to her..I told her a bit about myself and she was "very touched" (yes those were her words to me lol)..then, she hands me a paper of some kind..it was the letter Fiyero sends Elphaba before the "For Good" scene..she signed it to me..just about passed out that I now have something actually used in the show...
finally, we took a few pics on stage and she signed my playbill..I hugged her and thanked her..then my dad had to pull me down from the air I was floating on..
Bottom line..see Nicole Parker and Alli Mauzey, folks..they DO NOT disappoint!
Wow that's soo amazing! I'm so happy for you though, I think it's fabulous that you're a survivor as well. I have great respect for those who can triumph over something like that and still come out strong. It sounds like you had a fabulous time and I'm glad time. Now if you'll excuse me I'm going to go write a letter to Nicole Parker (:

That's the best Wicked story I have heard so far.
Nicole sounds like a class act.
Wow... The actual letter from the show.
Now there's a happy ending, indeed.

3/20 notes:
This is my favorite cast ever! Full cast except Alex Quiroga (sp?) was on for Witches father.
Alli- Her newer dress is HUGE its so fluffy compared to the other one! She rocked all of her songs and she hit the Mauzey High Note, but tonight it sounded exactly what Cheno would do. Her Popular was hysterical. She was doing kicks the whole time and then she would pretend to pull a muscle it was hysterical. Her chemistry with the cast is fantastic!
Nicole- She gets better and better. She didn't riff too much tonight which I didn't mind. Her singing improved AND her acting improved. Guys I'm not kidding Nicole is the shiz. She looks a lot like Caissie when she is green when she is standing from a certain angle.Shes also the sweetest person ever at stage door. She remembered me from over a month and a half ago and when I asked her to say something to the camera from Disaster movie she went on and on it was halrious!
Nicole being Winehouse^^^thats the video I took from stage door when I asked her to do an impersonation of Amy Winehouse from Disaster Movie.
ETA: I noticed that they got a new defying gravity broom

Rondi- I really really enjoyed her Madame Morrible. At the same time I really havent seen a Madame Morrible I have'nt liked yet. Her speech in the attic is super freaky. They add some sort of an echo on the last "wicked witch!" and she sounds awesome! I also love the rolled r's she adds to like every word.Shes so awesome at stage door as well.
Alex- Still my fav.
Cristy- I don't know what happened, but shes back and better than ever!
Kevin- I was a bit underwhelmed. I liked him better the last time I saw him. Still great though!
P.J- Same as usual

Someone said (and I think it was the man escorting Nicole Parker) "wickedlou", I don't know if it was a coincedence or if they knew it was me on here.....hmm. Haha

She is by far the most gracious, kind and humble actress I've ever met. When you tell her how amazing she is, she literally thanks you a million times and tells you how much it means to her.

Saw the show on Sunday. Full cast.
I think that Alli is gonna start hitting high notes that only dogs can hear. That thing was high. Took her shoes off during the beginning of Popular(have no clue why either). She is getting more and more nuts during this song.
Nicole gets better and better everytime I see her.
Rondi is officially my favorite Morrible. So sweet and funny at stage door also.
Kevin is still eh. Not much chemistry with Nicole in ALAYM even though she was giving him a ton to work with he still just sat there. She was all over him and he barely touched her.
Don't know what is wrong with Kristen Leigh Gorski but everytime I see her she cracks on her one line as the witches mom.
Cristy is better than ever IMO.
Both Alli and Nicole were screaming at each other in Catfight. And Nicole changed her cackle which I think sounds better now.

It was a nice day out yesterday, so I decided to go down to lotto with my friend and she won! She was actually one of the last names called, and I was about ready to peace out until they said her name. First off, the audience was INSANE! The entire cast played off of their enthusiasm, most specifically Alli whom delivered her FUNNIEST "Popular" to date. At one point she actually had to ad-lib a sort of "Hilty back-bend" because she got so much applause! Lindsay Janisse was on for Maia (can't remember her last name, but she's the new Pfanee) but that was about it in the swing department. I always can't believe that Nicole outdoes herself. She was terrific! For Good was so sad, Alli and Nicole were sobbing by the end and Alli's face was red and her eyes were puffy. I can't imagine what Nicole's last is going to be like in July! I'm so glad to see Kevin back...he really is the best Fiyero IMO. I didn't like Aaron at all in the role, and I feel that Kevin brings a new dimension to an otherwise static character. Plus he looks hot with his new haircut.
Also, what the eff with the new fog machines? I could barely see Nicole during NGD and I was BB 1!

Saw Wicked on the 22nd April.. evening show. It's the first time I've seen Nicole/Alli, last time I saw it on Broadway was Kerry's last. So it'd been a while and I think it was needed.
I'm not great at reviews and my notes appear to have been ripped when security searched my bags. But anyway brief notes from a first time Parker/Mauzey viewer!
Alli is so pretty and I adored her interpretation of Glinda, I've seen ALOT of different Glinda's and I love that she really has put her own spin on the role, she had me chuckling in my seat, so much so that my poor ever enduring husband kept poking me to shush. Her vocals were just stunning, so strong and consistent. Acting too, she was really strong, and that actually carried on through the entire show, which was a nice change. I had also forgotten, side note, just how professional the Broadway company are in comparison to that of the London company (who are amazing, I'm rushing back to London to see their cast change, but they do corpse a hell of a lot) and it was great to really get into the show, which is one aspect of London that I do not like. Her chemistry with Nicole was so cute.
Nicole, now, it is very mixed. Vocally she was good, I'm pretty sure I wasn't seeing her on a great day because she seemed to lack a lot of power behind her voice so whether she was sick or something idk. Her acting was wonderful, possibly one of the strongest I've ever seen and her whole attitude towards Elphaba is fantastic. Her and Kevin were not so fantastic, I don't see the chemistry there personally. It just doesn't look quite right (Whilst Oliver Tompsett and Kerry Ellis lack chemistry they do look right together) She reminded me sort of, of SJB in her mannerisms.
The Ensemble I have to mention were outstanding, one of the strongest, I have ever seen in a Wicked company for a very long time, probably since the OBC.
Kevin was OK, nothing special, nothing personal, I just don't think he's Fiyero.
I'll be returning to the Gershwin as soon as I can to hopefully get Nicole stronger, I'd really like to see what she does with this role when she is up to full pelt. So whilst she isn't my favourite in the role, and I don't believe she ever will be, she is a very good Elphie and I will be excited to watch how she grows with the role and makes it her own.

Finally saw Nicole tonight and thought that she was great. Definitely doesn't have the power vocally as some of the other Elphies I've seen (though her "No Good Deed" was FIERCE) but she more than makes up for it in the acting department. Alli, as always, was great though she messed up on the first line of "For Good" which I found kind of funny.
Kevin while not the greatest ever isn't as bad as people make him out to be, imo. Such a nice guy at the stage door! I mentioned to him that I saw him up onstage at HAIR on Sunday night and I never realized that his wife is in it. Love Alex and Rondi

Allie was great, high notes in NOMTW and TG! She pulled a leg muscle or some other part of her leg in popular and walked around the stage going "ouch, ouch" for like 2 minutes, it was hilarious!
Nicole was amazing! I fell in love with her, she has become my number 1 elphie! She was spot on with everything that she did!!!!!
Kevin was good, has an amazing voice and i think that he makes a good fiyero!

My 30th time seeing Wicked (Saturday matinee on May 23rd) was a special one, my 1st on Broadway and definitely worth the price I paid for my premium seats in row A exact center. What an incredible view I had of everything.

ed the Gershwin! Robin Wilner was on as Nessrose and Jonathan McGill joined the cast in the ensemble. Absolutely

ed Nicole Parker. She exceeded my expectations that I had for her and jumped way up on my list of favorite Elphabas. Her acting is superb, the best that I have seen for any Elphaba. Her voice was good singing to score with just one riff that I heard on NGD. Glad that I got to see her before she leaves the production. Sorry to say that I did not like Alli Mauzey at all, my least favorite Glinda of any that I've seen. She had some good moments but for the most part her portrayal was blah for me. Rondi Reed was okay but somewhat disappointing for me. She just wasn't wicked enough and the lines that I love when she shouts out "Wicked" and "Shut Up!" were just not what I was used to or wanted to hear. P.J. Benjamin who I had seen many years ago at OCPAC and loved was not as good as the last time that I saw him, but I love his singing. For all the hullabaloo about Kevin Kern looking too old for Elphaba and Glinda I respectfully disagree. For me he had great chemistry with Nicole Parker especially in ALAYM and I really enjoyed his singing voice and his dancing. It was good to see Toby again as Dr. Dillamond. I also enjoyed Alex Brightman as Boq. Robin Wilner as Nessarose was okay but nothing special in the WWOTE. All in all a great cast that I really enjoyed!
Love looking for what is different in each production: 1) The monkeys flying free over the audience. They were right above me and loved watching them fly out of the shafts on the sides of the stage. Know they do this in Australia and in Germany, but how long has this been going on in NYC? 2) The Wizard's balloon in OSD. Are there other productions that do this too? 3) The bridge is really low on Broadway and the lift in DG is so slow compared to what I saw in L.A. 4) Noticed that the drinks brought out by the rat at the Ozdust Ballroom and grabbed by Madame Morrible are gone. Are they gone elsewhere too and how long has this been done here? 5) The entrance to DG from the right side of the stage up the stairs and the broom popping up from there was another which was very different from how it was done in L.A.

I'm sorry that you didn't like Alli...I was pleasantly surprised by Ms. Mauzey and would love to see her again. I haven't had the privilege of seeing Nicole, and I don't think I can get to NY before July 17.
The DG lift IS very slow on Broadway. I remember the first time I saw Wicked outside of NYC, the lift seemed super-fast, but now, the Broadway lift just seems too slow. And I think the OSD balloon is just in the Broadway production.

Yes, drinks have been gone for some time on broadway.
As for the Wizard's balloon in OSD, I think that's always been unique to NYC, as well. The monkeys have always flown over the audience in NYC. I think that, if it's a sit-down, it just depends if there's fly-space over the orchestra in that specific theatre - so I guess NYC, Stuttgart and Melbourne are the only ones that have that...
GLAD YOU LIKED NICOLE! She's incredible. And I didn't like Alli too much when she first started (too much Kendra imitation) but she's improved tenfold, I think, and has dug much deeper into the character.

Just got back from the matinee (yay lotto win for Nicole's 3rd to last show, finally got to see her)! Loved Nicole, 2nd only to SJB, who can never be surpassed in my book...though she came REALLY close. In fact, I'm actually upset b/c I wish I had known how amazing she was months before so I could've come to see her multiple times! I expected her acting to be great (which it was), but was incredibly impressed by her singing, her TWAI and NGD were phenomenal. Also, I thought her scene with P.J. right before Wonderful was so beautifully acted, very well done.
First time seeing Alli as well....I liked her alright with Nicole, thought she was really funny in some parts, but I don't think I wouldn't have liked her with many Elphabas (she just has fantastic chemistry with Nicole, they compliment each other well). I also didn't like her for most of Act 2, but at the very end after the melting and she goes "...Elphie?" then picks up the hat and cries "Oh Elphie!..." I about burst into tears, it was very moving.
I also liked Kevin Kern, but not as much as I wanted to. For some reason I thought I'd hate him, but I did like him, I've just seen much better Fiyeros. I thought his ALAYM was good, but his DTL was weak.
Full cast, great overall, glad to have gotten the chance to see this group!

They're both fantastic, it's really hard to say one's better than the other. But here's the only reasons I could come up with:
1. Nicole's last DG note was weaker than SJBs (but may have been the one-time thing)
2. I got to see SJB four times in the role (including her last performance which is always emotional to experience) and loved her all four times, as opposed to having one positive performance with Nicole
3. Stephanie just seems more effortless I suppose, not that I think Nicole seemed to be struggling
Also, I've had the opportunity to meet SJB at the stage door four times between Wicked and 9 to 5 and she's just so sweet, whereas I haven't met Nicole, which probably makes me more attached to Stephanie's performances.
But in general, the main songs I use to judge Elphabas are TWAI, WITF, and NGD, and I thought Nicole blew me away in all three.

Saw the show tonight 7/30.
Anthony Galde was on as the Wizard. I had seen him once before so it was nice to see him in the role again. I really enjoyed his Wizard. Dee and Alli's chemistry has gotten so strong in the past week or so since Dee's first--I think they are one of my favorite pairs. Briana Yacavone was on in Sarah Bolt's track--love Briana hardcore.
Highlight though: Elphaba's bed got stuck on stage after 'Popular'--two stagehands had to come out and I thought it was hysterical--stuff like that never happens when I see it
The crowd was insane! Loud cheering throughout, entrance applause/loud cheers for both Alli and Dee. They also clapped when Dillamond ate the paper which I found kind of weird. Alli took advantage of the extra applause before "This is never going to work" to do some extra kicks which I had never seen her do before.
sorry no stage door stories because I didn't

Well I put aside any preconceived notions I had of Erin and went to see her tonight (8.12). I actually really enjoyed her! There were lots of little things she did that I loved like hiding her face from Dee with her letter during WITF. Her "Popular" was great! I've never heard a Glinda go up on the last note of INTG ® but she did and it sounded great.
She and Dee had great chemistry which is to be expected.Their FG was particularly emotional.

Saw the show yesterday and saw Jen as Elphie,Adam Fleming as Boq,Sam Zach as the mom and it was Cristy Candler's and Sam Cahn's last day(no speeches but they both received flowers).
-Saw Erin for the first time and absolutely loved her. She is now my favorite Glinda. Everything about her was perfect from her voice to her look, she was hilarious and kinda nuts in Act 1 and very mature in Act 2. One of the best transformations I have seen out of a Glinda.
-Cristy was crying at the end of NOMTW and all throughout the little bit that she is onstage. She was very angry in saying her lines in WWOTE and looked like she was gonna knock Jen right off the stage when she went after her in her wheelchair.
-Sam was more vocal then he usually is(He's a very noisy Chistery).
-Jen sounded awesome but during NGD when she came up through the trap she could only hold "fiyero" out just a little bit. She was losing her voice completely by the end of the show. At SD she was appologizing to us for being hoarse and said that she did 4 shows in a row and wasn't used to it.
-Also the way that Erin goes higher on the last "girl" in INTG® Jen did the same thing in her INTG. I never heard her do it before, only Chelsea and I know that Julie did it in LA for a bit. Personally I think it sounds better since a lot of Elphie's and Glinda's can't hit that lower note(some exceptions:Kendra,Steph,Chelsea(she can do it both ways))
-Adam plays Boq very different from Alex. Alex is more of a lost puppy with Glinda. Adam is more of a creep with her. Kinda like Stanton was in Chicago.
All in all it was a great show and one of the best I have seen. Jen and Erin are great together. My only problem is Erin with Kevin. He looks way too old next to her(and they have been making him look younger buy shortening his hair). She is so young looking though(well she is young) that it doesn't look right.
-The other thing that bothered me is that Elphie was shorter then Glinda. I like my Elphie's to be taller but Erin is a fairly tall Glinda and Jen is a small Elphie. I'm sure Erin looks fine with Dee since she is around 5"10".

Won lotto tonight! First of the semester. Full cast. LOVED Erin SO SO much! She was amazing... she is completely different from Chicago and everything about her portrayal was a delight to watch (except she hit the higher note in INTG [R] and that irks me). Vocally though, WOW... the girl has a crystal clear voice and her soprano is gorgeous. She is also one of the most regal-looking Glindas I've ever seen. I'm still on the fence about Dee... vocally she's very strong, but I'm not head-over-heels in love with her acting. I definitely enjoyed her more this time and she really connects very well with Erin. There were a few vocal slip-ups and timing issues in the beginning with Dee, Erin and Kevin... which makes me think it's the conductor.
But I will say... Michelle Federer has COMPLETELY changed! I did not like her Nessa when she was originally with the show and was pretty skeptical that she'd be much better when she came back but she was TERRIFIC! Honestly, went from the bottom to the top of my favorites. Everything she did was so different and WWoTE was completely heartbreaking. Basically, I will be seeing this cast again!

LOVED Katie Rose Clarke. I honestly didn't find one thing wrong about her performance at all. Her Glinda is a little spastic, but she's sincere about it. And unlike Heléne, comedy comes natural to Katie. Her Act II was definitely one of my favorites of all of the Glinda's I've seen. I didn't really love Jenny Fellner as Nessa. She didn't really bring anything special to the role and I found her to be a little boring. Still don't love Dee either.
There was one blooper - the bubble took a while to come down, and one of the ensemble members yelled "I THINK I SEE SOMEONE" while the rest of the ensemble screamed. Then finally, "LOOK! IT'S GLINDA!"
Cristy Candler is back as the Witch's Mother. I'm guessing it's permanent as she's printed in the Playbill. I found it a little odd that she's not covering Nessarose. Betsy Struxness also joined the cast, and again she isn't covering Nessarose either.
We have new projections! Now, during the part where Elphaba has her freak out in the lion cub scene (in the classroom), there's a new green flame projection that's been added. It's VERY cool. They also updated the "No Good Deed" projections to what they look like on the tours and around the world.

They also updated the "No Good Deed" projections to what they look like on the tours and around the world.
just out of curiosity what don't you like about Dee?

I find there to be something innately insincere about her portrayal. I can't really pinpoint it. Her voice is wonderful, and she's not terrible, just not really my favorite.

Very good! Not as amazing as Dee's chemistry with Erin, but better than hers with Alli.

Thanks so much for the quick notes. I just wanted to say my first time seeing the show was the January 20, 2008 performance on Broadway. This performance was my two year anniversary!

I'm surprised the flames haven't always been there - we even had them on 2NT when I saw it in April!

Saw the show on Sunday Jan 24,2010. Full cast but:
Kathy Santen as Morrible and Briana Yacavone as the Midwife
Betsy is in Heather's track since she is out hurt. She looks a lot like Jenny D. that I kept staring at her...LOL
Cristy was the Witches Mom. She was filling in again but just for the week. It was nice to see her in her OBC track and to see her dance.
Katie Rose made me remember why she is one of my favorite Glinda's. Spazzy in Act 1(but not overdoing it) and very mature in Act 2. Her Popular is the funniest thing I have ever seen and poor Dee was trying to hold her laugh in but couldn't...LOL.
Dee was on fire. I never heard sound so good. TWAI gave me chills at the end as did DG. She did her crazy 2nd Fiyero riff in NGD. There was just something different aboout her and I don't know what it was.
Jenny Fellner is an awesome Nessa. One of the best voices I ever heard, great acting and she is short(whcih I think Nessa should be shorter than Boq for some odd reason). Her Nessa is very weepy and sad though which I don't care for all the much but she made it work. Most of them are angry at Elphie in WWotE and Jenny really wasn't, At the beginning she was a little bit but when Elphie does the spell to make her walk she hugged her before she called Boq in. Also during Boq's lines and Nessa goes over to the table where Elphie is Jenny took Dee's hand and put it up to her face and Dee hugged her(as much as she could with a table between them)
Katie Rose had a blooper in the fight scene when she went to twirl the wand somehow it went through a part of her dress and got stuck when she tried to throw it to fight with Elphie. Dee was just standing there not knowing what to do and went to go over to help her to get it out. Katie Rose was like I got it, I got it while struggling to get it out, finally she pulled it out and they continued with the scene. I also took notice that when they are putting Fiyero on the stake that Katie Rose went to pick up her wand(I never saw another Glinda do that as a guard usually grabs it and one grabs Glinda)
FG was really emotional with Dee crying a lot and Katie Rose wiping away her tears. They have incredible chemistry together.
It was Chelsea's last show so she got a special bow and flowers at curtain call. She made me cry since she was and so was Lindsay
If you plan on stage dooring Katie comes out fast and usually before the ensemble comes out. She was out within 5 minutes yesterday.

I'm shocked Chelsea is already gone - I wonder if they have an interim understudy until Stephanie Torns joins?
