How do the Elphabas hold onto their cape during that song...is it like a certain spot on the cape that they hold on to?

Holding onto the cape?? What do you mean?
iemsewrad
Feb 6 2006, 06:07 AM
Hold onto their cape? As in, when the wind starts blowing from the stage? Because in order it to make an effect one would have to hold it, and it is cheoreographed into the song?
iemsewrad
Feb 6 2006, 06:11 AM
Or do you mean when they are coming out of the trap door in order not get it caught?
iemsewrad
Feb 6 2006, 06:13 AM
Or just in general? Because its a rather large and heavy dress and sometimes you need to pull it up in order to walk.

That lighting change on "Let all Oz be agreed" still gives me chills, it's SO creepy.
Saycon rocks, they should have let her take over when Sho left.

I sorta feel the same. I mean, I don't think she's horrible.... but, the hands and body language weren't working for me... it made Elphaba seem a bit too dainty (not the best word choice.. but I can't of another).

Guys...I saw Saycon 1/7/06, believe me, I have her full video and several audios of her. She is 89346593659236457923 times better in person. She is absolutly amazing and wonderful, the bootleg makes her sound terrbile. Please trust me, because I know...
BTW, she is leaving before Eden does, so she wont take over...

I agree, I've heard other stuff of hers, personally I thought she didn't sound that bad overall.
When exactly is she leaving?

Are you guys crazy!? lol. Jay kay. But, okay, in all sincerity Eden really isn't all that great...she was back in her original stanby days, but it seems like the tour and her time off really set her back, and what happened to her vocals? Really. I really like saycon, the only thing I think she really needs to work on is her acting. Much better than Brandi Massey, though - so I really hope she takes over for eden.

So that's where Shoshana got her riffs from. Both the ending note and the "do" up and down thing I've heard Shoshana do.

Saycon and Shoshana's NGD are very similar. I noticed this when I saw her live.

Same with the last DG note. Shoshana's is more modified, while Saycon's is like a "base," so to speak. Maybe I'm wrong. Idk.... :ha:

I really like Saycon's NGD, her DG is good too.
I think when it comes to sound-alike, Brandi Chavonne Massey sounds a little like Sho in her DG, because she uses the same riffs.

As much as I think Saycon is the best of all the Elphabas with possible ties being Idina/Stephanie, Sho definitely did not get the riff at the end from Saycon. She was doing that before Saycon ever went on as Elphaba. The first clip I've ever heard with that is one of Eden's first performances as standby, but a lot of those riffs were started by Idina, including the "So if you care to find me-ee" (the one with two notes) that a lot of them do. She changed from night to night (which made it really exciting), so who knows all the riffs that came from her that we don't realize.

THANK YOU!
I argued that they came from Eden for the sake of chronology--I mean, Eden was the standby BEFORE Shoshana and she DID do that riff before Shoshana did. Never took Idina into account, though. Idina is indeed a mighty riffstress, and we should give HER more credit... so thank you for that.

I have never seen Saycon live, but I remember watching that clip and I wasn't impressed. But from what everyone on these boards have said (and everything else I've heard about her..) she's amazing live. Unfortunately I cannot judge fairly... :-( I've also seen a lot of people say she's their favorite - so maybe there's better clips of her out there somewhere. This was the only one I've seen. Ack.
If you look at "No Good Deed" from Kristin's last show (I wish those clips were still there), she did the riff on the "Ah" part of "again" that Sho did. Saycon I think is probably the most controversial Elphaba for Wicked fans because she's so different. She is incredibly expressive with her arms and doesn't move as much as others have (in that respect she's a lot like Idina), but she has a very different voice. Also, her Elphaba changes and has more layers than almost any of the others (Stephanie being a possible exception, but I saw them too far apart from each other, and I was really far away the one time I saw Stephanie). She's not as funny as some of them are, but she's a great straight man, and she'd probably be funnier if/when she takes over and gets the timing. She shows too much potential with what she does now. Part of me also wonders if she doesn't want to be too funny b/c Megan isn't as good with the comedy as other Glinda's have been. When I saw Eden and Megan together, it seemed very mismatched b/c most of the laughs (from the whole audience) were for Eden. Saycon developed an extremely strong relationship through the show that built to an incredible climax at "For Good." Not only were both she and Megan clearly crying, but you could hear the audience crying, which was something I hadn't seen since Kristin left. Many were moved by her "No Good Deed." However, with the clips, you don't get the full effect of how powerful her voice is, which is just mind boggling, when I saw it the last time, my girlfriend's jaw dropped on "It's MEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!" That was also the only performance out of 7 that she had to pull out the tissues. Sorry, got a little off topic, but I have to tought (sp?) Saycon!

Well I've never seen Saycon live, but from this I don't get what peoples problem is?!?! I like her, I think she does a great job.
I like that she doesn't seem to move as much as some of the others have, she seems alot more contained, which is how I always saw Elphaba in the book anyway.
I think she's great, she convinced me with this clip.
