In the beginning of 2010 Wicked will close it's production in Stuttgart an will be replaced by a revival of Dance of The Vampires (Vienna production). Source: Stage Entertainment.
Kind of Wicked
I am still surprised... I mean the show is still succesfull in Stuttgart. Perhaps they want to bring it to another city.
Elphahaba
Maybe Willemijn is going to play Elphaba in Holland then? ;D *wishful thinking*

But I think it's quite strange, I thought Wicked was pretty successful in Stuttgart and Tanz der Vampire currently plays in Oberhausen. Why would they change it?
Nessa_Rose
How unfortunate. sad.gif
But here's to hoping Willemijn heads over to the states in 2010!
ForGood
That is a bit surprising, but it will have had a good run. Bring Lucy to Broadway!
Jessicasmd917
Good thing i made plans to go already! This is surprising but im not that upset about it only because it is being replaced by Tanz Der Vampire, another BRILLIANT show! and there's still a good solid 10 months till closing, which will make wicked a great run in Germany. =]
Teal-Shade-of-Eden
I haven't been this depressed since they announced the Wicked LA closing. sad.gif

But this could get us a new production overseas and another cast recording. laughing.gif

Wish I could see Willemijn and Lucy! dry.gif

Ha, you just read my mind =P
Tanz is wonderful, it's going to be a success, just like Wicked!

I just hope they move this production to Holland, preferably to Utrecht rolleyes2.gif rolleyes2.gif

So sad it's closing cry.gif I also heard rumors that Wicked is leaving Germany and that makes me cry even more cry.gif cry.gif cry.gif
and1987
That's a shame! I hope the cast all finds other jobs soon after it closes.
lfae
So sad! sad.gif But now I am more determined than ever to see it again when I am over there in July.
Teal-Shade-of-Eden
I bet they'll announce a Vienna production soon... hopefully. smile.gif

If they do that, I'll be broke. But I wouldn't mind heartbeat.gif
Time to go, Dirty Dancing.
*wishful thinking again*

Aren't they still opening a production in Amsterdam? Plus, hasn't Willemijn expressed interest in finally starring in a show in her homeland? I hope she's not done with Wicked!

There are so many rumours I don't know what to believe tongue.gif It could be that they build a new theatre in Amsterdam and let Wicked be the opening show, but nothing is confirmed yet. And who knows, maybe they want a talent show for Elphaba/Glinda (which would be stupid because they already HAVE the perfect Elphaba)... but you never know with Stage Entertainment wink.gif

But yes, Willemijn has said that she would love to play Elphaba in Holland, so I'm still hoping! I'll wait and see... biggrin.gif
Liss
I really, really, really hope that Will will play Elphaba in Holland,

Because I can't go to Stuttgart because I go to NY this autumn (Not that I mind, I had to choose between NY and Stuttgart, NY won ^^), but I really do want to see Will as Elphaba...

As long as they don't do another: "Search for... Elphaba/Glinda". I would seriously kill Stage Entertainment whistling.gif (And as long as they don't let Martine Bijl translate everything, but as Elphahaba said: Wishful thinking)
degeorgetitanic
This is not suprising to me. The production isnt closing cuz it wasnt drawing in the crowds, cuz we all know that WICKED broke many box office records in Stuttgart, but I think its cuz they wanna move it to another location. Either Berlin or somewhere else around Germany.
Teal-Shade-of-Eden
I'm hoping that wherever Wicked goes after Stuttgart, we get a new cast recording of the show. *crosses fingers*

I'm pretty sure that the production's gonna move to Holland. The financial risk for the production company "Stage Entertainment" may be too high to open two European Wicked productions in 2010.
It's very sad because the Stuttgart production is still quite successful. But on the other hand I'm REALLY excited to see Wicked in Holland with Willemijn as a possible "Elphaba" smile.gif Let's see what happens...
LaFemmeVerte
cry.gif So it looks like the trip I was planning late January won't pan out! Is there an actual date of Wicked closing in Stuttgart? elphie3.gif

Probably January 30th 2010. But that's not confirmed yet.

I apologize for my lack of geographical knowledge. Is Finland close to Holland? Have you ever heard of Sissel? I believe she's from Finland, but I think she's pretty famous all over Scandanavia. I have no idea if she can act, but she has the most beautiful voice and I think would make a great Glinda, at least singing wise. Check her out on You Tube. I saw her at the Mormon Tabernacle Choir Christmas concert a few years ago. She is incredible.
YourFiyero
Looks like my trip there next week will be my last chance to see Willemijn and Lucy, hope they're both there as I only got Willemijn last time, I want to see Lucy smile.gif

Well, Finland isn't exactly close to Holland. Haha, it's 2500 km from Holland... (A)
Petra
Plus there's the tiny little issue of the language barrier. What with Finnish having nothing whatsoever to do with Dutch and all...
Balloon-Boy
My money is on either Holland or a European tour.
Liss
^If I had to chose, between those two, it would be a production in Holland. Not because I live in Holland and really want Wicked here, but because there are several hints that Wicked in Holland might be coming... (Like Pia Douwes about Elphaba, the new Stage theatre...)
LaFemmeVerte
Have written to Stage Entertainment and the theatre about closing dates but nothing so far....surely if they know when the next show is going in there would be a confirmed date? unsure.gif Busting to know so I can make my travel plans from Australia to the UK and USA...starting with Stuttgart first. weee.gif I'm hoping that it's on till the 30th or 31st Jan and not closing earlier or will have to skip. cry.gif As soon as anyone has a confirmed date...PLEASE message me! elphie3.gif
LaFemmeVerte
Any updates on exact date of Wicked closing in Stuttgart? unsure.gif Can anyone in Stuttgart ask at the theatre for me...they must have a final date by now? I would ring seeing as emails have not been responded to but can't speak a speck of German except for the lyrics to Popular which amuse me and not sure anyone on the other end would care to hear me sing...nor am I about to pay for an international call to do so! tongue.gif I know tickets won't go on sale for a while and maybe they are waiting on that to make the big announcement but hoping someone can enlighten me soon please? elphie3.gif
Petra
January 31 2010, evening show.
Confirmed by the fanclub coordinator guy, who's in direct contact with the theatre.

Has anyone here gone to see the show who doesn't speak or understand any German?

It looks like I'll be traveling to Salzburg in a few weeks with a friend, and I saw it's a few hours from Stuttgart, so I'm pretty tempted to try to catch Wicked. I've seen it often enough that I know all the lines anyway, and I enjoy listening to the German cast recording. I'm just wondering if anyone else has actually seen it without knowing the language, and what difference that made on enjoying the show.

(Or any similar experiences with other musical/plays would be helpful too, thanks!)

Go for it if you can. I'm pretty sure a few WoO'ers have seen the show in Stuttgart without knowing much German. If not, there's always a first for everything. tongue.gif

With such a great cast and the possibility of Willemijn/Lucy, it would be 100% worth it. biggrin.gif
LaFemmeVerte
Absolutely agree with Teal-Shade-of-Eden....GO FOR IT! w00t.gif I'm no where near the production but have been busting to see since I first saw an interview with Willemijn early on which was over 30 minutes showing clips from the production and discussing the show. I was blown away by her's and Lucy's performances and did not understand one word in the interview, yet was mesmerised! LOL I've seen so many classic European movies over the years with and without subtitles...you pick up on what is being said and I often end up ignoring the subtitles. tongue.gif

Seeing a live performance you get the gist from the emotions portrayed by the actors and especially the music. You would enjoy regardless and when you consider Opera and classical music...you don't need to understand the words or have any words...it's expressed and you feel it. I can't wait to experience Wicked that way kittydance.gif and planning to see now that the closing date fits in with travel plans early 2010. laughing.gif Loving Wicked as you do...you can listen with your heart and not your head! GO!!! elphie3.gif
Jessicasmd917
I saw it in Stuttgart and i had NO IDEA what they were saying the entire time! It was a blast!!! laughing.gif Definitely go for it!

Well, I learnt German in high school but that was a while ago and I am by no means fluent, and I loved the Stuttgart production so much I can't put it into words. The German language - even if you don't know exactly what they are saying - just seems to fit so much, especially with the fierce and angry and sexy parts. There is nothing like Lucy screeching her head off, nor like Willemijn's Gutes Tun. It helps if you know the show beforehand of course because you know what they're saying anyway, it's more about the acting and those glorious voices. biggrin.gif

I can't imagine what it would be like not understanding a single word though. I think you'd have to REALLY love Wicked. wink.gif

It is now just over a week until I see Wicked in Stuttgart! According to schedules I'm getting to see Willemijn, Lucy, Valerie and Roberta. ... yay!! So excited. Hopefully I will get to post reviews once over there!

clockworkgirl21
I don't think not knowing German would take away from the show too much if you know the show well enough. Even if you don't understand the words, you know the general idea of what they're saying.

YAY kittydance.gif & YES please!! Ha although, I get to hear all about it with excited squeals, facial and hand expressions when we catch up for coffee in London before I see final Stuttgart shows 28th & 29th! SKippinginthefields.gif Happy travels my wicked friend! hug.gif elphie3.gif

Wholeheartedly agree...I know no German except for a few words yet I listen to the German soundtrack and I feel even more emotion in parts than I do listening to the original cast recording. Going to be absolutely freakin' AMAZING!! biggrin.gif

I know the english libretto too well which is dreadfully sad but also feel music can convey so much of the story anyway. I am a fan of quite a few german musicals. Sometimes I think it's better not knowing exactly what they're saying but what they're communicating. I think it'll be great!
