Next udpate won't be quiet so fluffy.A New Day
As the morning sun awoke so did Elphaba. The world was in a peaceful place in between living and sleeping and Elphaba found herself smiling at the simplicity of her existence. She did not feel
well, Oz no, but she felt
safe, and that was a lot better than she had felt in a very long time.
Adjusting herself gently, Elphaba turned her head to the left so she could gaze out the window. The sky was beautiful. The sun illuminated the expanse surrounding it, leaving the sky splatter painted by pinks, purples, reds, oranges, and blues. The sky was clear and the clouds were light. It was a sight to see and Elphaba was grateful she had the opportunity to see it.
There was a unique sweetness to the birds’ chirps this morning. It was this chirping that caused Fiyero to groggily awake from his slumber in the chair to the right of Elphaba’s bedside.
“Mmmm. Fae?” he whispered, carefully trying not to awake Elphaba if she was indeed sleeping.
“Isn’t it beautiful Fiyero?” Her voice came out raspy and her breathing was still a tad shallower than average.
He looked out the window to follow her gaze before she turned her head to face him. They stared into each others’ eyes with attentiveness. It was almost as if their souls were having a conversation. It had been too long and the two were quite aware of the fact. Elphaba broke the connection first by bringing her focus to the ceiling.
“I don’t know what I was thinking,” she admitted to someone. Whether it was to Fiyero or herself, she was not sure.
“I don’t know what you were thinking either.” She looked at him again and he smiled at her. “You could have gotten yourself killed.”
“I actually wasn’t referring to that.”
“Oh?”
She turned away from him again to face the window, embarrassed by what she was about to admit.
“I was referring to when I left you at Shiz. I don’t know what I was thinking when I chose to stay in the city,” She sniffled but shed no tears, “I needed you then… I mean, I can take care of myself! Don’t get the wrong idea. I don’t
need you… But I think I still need you now.”
“Oh Fae.” Fiyero got into the bed next to her in a reclining position. He put one arm around her to embrace her and the other arm to prop himself up and stroke her hair. “It’s okay to cry you know.”
“I know it’s okay around you my dear. I’ll need to have a good cry one of these days. Ozma knows it’s all been building up long enough, but I can’t cry right now. I’m very weak. I don’t have the strength to deal with a burned face too.”
A comfortable silence took over them for a time before Elphaba found it getting too uncomfortable for her.
“So…” she started, having a hard time getting to her point, “Are you and Glinda…”
Fiyero sighed and cut her off, “I can’t lie to you Elphaba. Glinda and I have had our times together since you left… But… But we never fell in love. We never loved each other, well at least not the way I love you,” he paused before continued and looked out the window. He couldn’t bring himself to look into Elphaba’s eyes, “We both wanted to remember you and forget you. I don’t think you know how hard it’s been for us to not have you around. We both love you so much,” he paused again and took a deep breath before looking deep into Elphaba’s eyes, “Please don’t leave me again. I don’t think I could take it. I don’t know if we can ever be the people we were at Shiz again, but I at least want to give us a try one more time. We may be different people now, but I don’t think our love ever died.”
Elphaba rolled over and buried her head in Fiyero’s chest.
“I don’t think it died either,” she smiled at him lovingly, “I missed you every night, not that that means much. I know I wasn’t here. But I’m here now, and I’m not going anywhere. I want to give us a try again too… but Fiyero?”
“Yes.”
She looked up at him and he looked down at her. She blushed.
“Umm… I… Well I… Don’t get me wrong I still love you… But… I don’t know if I’m comfortable picking up right away where we left off at Shiz… I mean… What I’m trying to say is…”
“Shhhh,” he cut her off and whispered for the sake of keeping her comfortable, “We don’t have to be intimate again just yet. I’m in no rush. As long as I can sleep here next to you, I’m happy as a clam.”
(Fiyero noted how she rushed saying she still loved him. It didn’t make him uncomfortable, only worried about Elphaba’s comfort. He knew he and Elphaba would have to take things slowly.)
He kissed her lightly on the lips. She deepened it by kissing him more fiercely and snaking her tongue into his mouth.
Fiyero let out a gentle moan and pulled away not long after.
“More of that later. For now, we have to get you to get some more rest.”
“But I just woke up,” Elphaba protested.
“It’s still early. We should both get some more rest before Glinda wakes up and it’s really time for the day to start.”
“Only if you stay with me Yero my hero.”
“I’d have it no other way Fae.”
She rolled over to face away from him once again and he held on to her tightly, spooning with her peacefully and lovingly.
“Love you Fae.”
“Love you too Yero,” Elphaba replied in a hushed voice almost too quiet for Fiyero to hear before drifting off to sleep.
