YAY, have tickets for Jan 2010 to WICKED in Stuttgart! A friend (La FemmeVert) and I are heading off to Germany as we have both been desperate to see the show. Unfortunately we couldn't organise it together but we're both so excited about it!! Hopefully Willemijn isn't taking any new years breaks!!!

Looking at the seating plan it seems to be selling well for the Jan month!!! Am confused though because the Stage Entertainment site has Wicked listed as continuing until Feb whereas Ticketonline has the regular Jan 30th finale date. Has the show been extended? Aren't able to book on the Stage site for these Feb shows yet. Odd :S

YAY for more Australians invading the Stuttgart production of WICKED!
LaFemmeVerte
YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY!!!! SKippinginthefields.gif Is so surreal to finally be posting this cause was only a pipe dream not so long ago! As lfae (fellow Australian who has seen Stuttgart production twice now...a Wicked veteran of sorts! witch2.gif), said her pipe dream came true and can now say same!! "YAAAAAAY!" kittydance.gif

We will have a blast even though not seeing together in Stuttgart...you get to tell me first hand when we see together in London....too funny that we ended up with seats next to each other for that...booking almost a month apart! w00t.gif Wicked soul mates it seems! z4dwink.gif

Addendum: LOL love the added Wicked productions on your banner! In need of a new one...will leave it to your creative genius when you have time! tongue.gif
saintaelphaba
I'm just hoping Willemijn will be on for at least one performace over that weekend! (Am going to all four shows as I think its worth increasing the odds!) Just checked out her past schedules and there doesn't seem to be a consistent pattern for her shows. Is there one?

I'm a bit of a Roberta fan though, but *FINGERS CROSSED* for Willemijn all the same!
Jessicasmd917
You guys are awesome lol This thread made me smile! I had a BLAST when I went to see the Stuttgart production and know you guys will too! I think its so much more fun when you travel from a long distance to see it smile.gif The wait is so worth it! I remember before I went to Stuttgart for me it was also just a far away dream, but then I was there! Its such a cool feeling! Have fun!
Elphahaba
Aah the Stuttgart production is amazing! biggrin.gif I wish I could go, but it's quite far away from me. Oberhausen on the other hand is "just around the corner", so I think my wallet would like it more if I went there.

*crosses fingers that Willemijn moves to Oberhausen*

But Stuttgart is great! biggrin.gif Although I had to pay 17 euro telephone costs for making the call... stupid Germans who can't pronounce my name laugh.gif
TheSitar
The show has not been extended, don't get your hopes up, tis a mistake. wink.gif sad.gif

Totally agree...the anticipation is heightened when you travel to see a show. How long ago did you see? I think it’s awesome that we are finally going to see the Stuttgart production and such a FABULOUS cast but nice to know this thread and our posts made you smile. smile.gif VERY excited, cause makes it REAL when you know you have tickets! This is a dream come true and one of almost two years for me cause when I first joined this forum posted more on the German than I did on the Melbourne forum where I live. I saw a promo video of Willemijn and Lucy and thought w00t.gif “WOW” fierce…a darker interpretation of the roles and the quest began to see more. LOL I even downloaded an hour long TV show (on dialup which took blink.gif FOREVER!!) with Willie as co host talking about Wicked…had snippets of performances but not enough to satiate me AND even though I could not understand one word of what was being discussed except for the word “Wicked” was completely mesmerised! wub.gif To think I was annoyed when I first heard that Wicked was opening in Germany…actually more green with envy cause had hoped Australia would be next thinking Europe was close enough to the UK production. I also thought the sensitivity of songs like ‘For Good’, ‘I’m not that Girl’ and ‘As Long as Your Mine’ would be lost in translation due to the tonality of the Germanic language…I don’t mean to offend anyone, just that in hearing German friends speak over the years, sounds like they are arguing when they are not. z4dwink.gif I felt like such a hypocrite footinmouth.gif cause the German cast recording has been a constant on my playlist and brings a whole new dimension to the musical for me; ‘Heibgeliebt’ (Popular) has me in hysterics more than the original cast recording and ‘Gutes tun’ (No Good Deed) has such a ferocity that I can’t wait to experience LIVE!! jaw-dropping.gif

This production of Wicked and the trip to Germany has opened a whole new world to me in that while I've always enjoyed foreign films (will be there for the beginning of the Berlin Film Festival), never really looked into European musicals and can see that I’ve been missing out on so much. It’s quite the reverse when I look at how European movies and musicals lose in translation…especially in the US where they are either glamourised or dumbed down…so I’m also really looking forward to seeing shows like Tanz in Oberhausen. Again…won’t understand a word but liken it to my love of classical music…where the music and emotion expressed...transcend words. Besides I love vampire themes and the costumes and sets look absolutely fabulous! elphie3.gif

I said the same, that it's a mistake....final show is the 31st Jan? unsure.gif Can't imagine it would go till Feb if it's opening shortly after in Oberhausen.

I couldnt have explained that any better myself!!! That is exactly how I felt prior boarding my flight to Germany smile.gif I went a few months ago, at the beginning of April. Like you mentioned hearing Willemijn and Lucy and thinking "WOW" how fierce. I automatically fell in love with their interpretations of the roles and how dynamic they both were. Actually having those tickets in my hand the day I was at the show felt other worldly. Its not everyday I have the chance to hop a plane from the United States and fly across the Atlantic lol...and although I had terrible timing and caught the show while Willemijn and Lucy were both out..cry.gif ..I was just amazed I was there...I mean how many people really can say they've seen the show live in more than one language! smile.gif AND i loved Melanie Gebhard haha. So after falling completely in love with the country my minor in college is German laugh.gif Thanks Wicked in Stuttgart!

OH! and I must mention that Tanz Der Vampire is BRILLIANT and one of if not THE BEST show I have ever seen in my entire life smile.gif...and like you, at the time I saw both of these shows I did not know a word of german. Well besides Hallo and Danke smile.gif

LOVE Tanz and have been following for years (poor Steve Barton, sad.gif ). Have to say I'm more stoked about seeing that. Doing the Vienna and Oberhausen production as I'm being insatiable. Quite stoked at Thomas Borchert reprising the role of von Krolock in Vienna.

EDIT: Heck, now Ticketonline is listing till Feb. Hrm, be interesting to see if they correct it or really have a thing for tight deadlines tongue.gif. Don't see how they'd move the show from Stuttgart to Oberhausen in such a short amount of time. As the Sitar said, my understanding was also Jan 30.

I actually had plans to travel back in December '07 and was ready to book a round the world Wicked then but Broadway was on strike. Was planning the same this trip but then decided to spend more time in Germany with a friend returning there who asked me to spend time with him and go adventuring. He speaks fluent German...actually teaches that and other languages, so my lessons have begun! Could not stop laughing when I asked how to say “hello” months ago…"hallo!" tongue.gif

It's very special where a passion opens up so much more! LOL I now know more about Germany than I ever did...especially Stuttgart and Oberhaussen! My friends are excited for me...though I know a few think I've lost the plot...lol one in particular rolled his eyes when I mentioned I was seeing Wicked in Germany..."What AGAIN!!!" (cause seen here 18 times), & "When did you become fluent in German?" was the response...like that matters? raspberry.gif I know every line in Wicked and all the songs...they are permanently engraved and I would understand BLINDFOLDED!! Plus experiencing another culture, people, sights and tastes...life doesn't get any better than that! So yes you're right...not many would have the opportunity to say so, and I can't stop smiling knowing I can....even if I get presented with a straight jacket for my next birthday! tongue.gif

Tanz in Oberhaussen will be my first German show and REALLY looking forward to that! w00t.gif At first I was feeling a little lonely in seeing on my own...moreso cause I enjoy sharing and discussing shows.…I kind of like the fact it will make it an even more surreal experience. z4dwink.gif

Yes, although you can book tickets only until the 30th. There's a huge debate going on in the German Wicked forum(s) because the TTL employees don't have all the info and half of them are saying the final show is Jan 30, the other half Jan 31st. The latest update is the tickets for the final show will be open for sale in September, although there are some who believe it won't be open for general public and that only the fanclub, the press and random invited people will be able to go the very last day (the fanclub already has tickets for the first 9 rows). I'm not entirely sure that's true (it'd be kinda pointless, methinks?), but I guess we'll just have to wait and see. huh.gif

Yes, RIP Steve Barton. I was completely blown away by the Oberhausen company. Jan Ammann and Nele-Liis Vaiksoo were just brilliant, as was the rest of the cast. wink.gif I would LOVE to see Thomas Borchert someday. He's fabulous smile.gif Casting hasnt been announced for Stuttgart yet, correct?

Oh yah, the strike. Well that can definitely screw up some plans. lol. It definitely has opened up SO MUCH more for me as well. I never thought Wicked would be opening me up to a completely different language and culture. Goes to show how far passion can really drive you!

You are VERY lucky to be seeing Tanz in Oberhausen! I'm guessing it's the same as with the Wicked cast for Oberhausen i.e. none of the actors are allowed to say anything before the official announcement and we can only guess when that's going to be. tongue.gif

Be interesting to see if Willemijn and Lucy will move to the 'Hausen (hehe i sound ghetto) and whether Jan will also continue with Tanz. It wouldn't surprise me if Will and Lucy called it quits as they've been doing it forever. I'd also like to see Kevin Tarte back as the Krolock lead but I can sense many people would want to stake me for such blasphemous comments!

I would love for Willemijn and Lucy to continue mostly because I missed them on my first trip to Germany, but alas they probably do wish to have some sort of a break.. but, I definitely wouldnt count them out for returning someday if in fact they dont move to Oberhausen right from the start. I was initially thinking they might open Oberhaussen for the first few months but most likely a new cast. Will be interesting to see in any case cause the alternate cast has quite a following as well...Europe has some mighty FINE Witches! I'd read a rumour that Willie was going to the US but I'd say someone posted in the hope the rumour would gain momentum! Still one never knows...stranger things have happened, and I for one would NEVER of believed Carmen Cusack would be a Melbourne Elphaba, had I not seen with my own eyes! z4dwink.gif LOVE Jan's voice and his look from what I've seen online...with all this Tanz talk...BUSTING to see the show live! w00t.gif

Do you anticipate Willimejn will increase her schedule with Wicked after finishing Aida? I'm surprised as there doesn't seem to be a rhyme or reason why she takes random shows off (eg. even a few weekends off completely - sometimes two weekends in a row). I've been trying to find some pattern and can't for the life of me! Why is this the case with the German production of Wicked?

She normally has Wednesdays off (and probably Tuesdays once they bring back Tuesday shows) and plays everything else (they have this thing where they're allowed to play max 6 times a week), but she sometimes takes other days off for random concerts (i.e. Musicalgala in Ludwigsburg, Pfingstgala in Tecklenburg etc.) or events (Wicked sucht Musicaltalent, a random casting show for people 15-25 years old where she and Lucy are in the jury), but the schedule is usually pretty accurate. Once it comes out. biggrin.gif
Kind of Wicked
Rumours are getting very strong that Willemijn will stay with Wicked in Oberhausen. Some already say that she told them but to a friend of mine she still said that she is not allowed to talk about it, but smiled then in a very suspicious way wink.gif

It would make sense: it is near the Netherlands, it is a secure, good paid and challenging job (there are not so many jobs like that out there on the musical market) and probably they wanted her, since she is considered one of the best Elphabas worldwide (vocally perhaps THE strongest and most constant). And I think she still hopes that she may be able to move with the production to Amsterdam (or another Dutch city) one day, since it was always her dream to do a big part like Elphaba in her home language and country.

Sad that Lucy will probably leave after Stuttgart as Glinda... but I hope for Kathrin Löbbert (u/s) now.

For all those who will come to Germany and are interested in German musicals: Try to watch "Elisabeth" of MIchael Kunze and Sylvester Levay. Many people consider it to be the best German musical (me too wink.gif) and it is the most succesfull German musical ever. It is touring Germany 2009 and 2010 and will stay in many cities. It is really great and has a very deep, dark and emotional story.

Lolz @ deep, dark and emotional. It's romanticized history. tongue.gif I mean, I liked Elisabeth well enough (I'm still not over the fact I missed Pia for ~6 weeks sad.gif), but Kunze and Levay have written better stuff. Rebecca, for example. heartbeat.gif

I really should learn more about German musicals. I've heard so many good things about Elizabeth and Rebecca, but I have to admit I've never seen one of them. Although I do love most of the Elizabeth songs smile.gif But my German is... not good. Really.

And oh my, I would love Willemijn to be staying. Oberhausen is so easy to travel to for me! That would be amazing. Although I do hope she doesn't get tired of the role before they want to open it in The Netherlands wink.gif lol.

Well, there has been a Dutch production of Elisabeth (in Scheveningen) and Rebecca's rumoured to be opening in The Netherlands. biggrin.gif

@TheSitar: Well, so different can opinions and tastes be. I did neither like Jana as Glinda nor Rebecca wink.gif

And romaticized history? Well, I rather think they found good images to tell (more or less) a real version of history.

But that is taste again, of course. wink.gif
saintaelphaba
Off to see Elisabeth myself in January, again, another show I've known for a long while but never got around to Germany to see before! YAY

There really are rumours about Wilemijn in Oberhausen? I had no idea.

I know Elizabeth was in The Netherlands, but that was before I got into musicals... so I haven't seen that one (need to see the DVD with Pia, though tongue.gif)

There are so many rumours in The Netherlands! The Wicked-rumours are there for more than a year, maybe two, and now Rebecca added, but probably we'll get Sister Act first, since Joop vd Ende produced that one tongue.gif Oh well. Thank you for the links! smile.gif
saintaelphaba
wub.gif Pia. She'd make an interesting Elphaba.

Regarding Rebecca vs Elisabeth- don't know why but I've always responded to Elisabeth more as the score is quite a mish-mash but somehow works. I like Rebecca but it took a long while to grow on me; Elisabeth was straight away.

I'm really looking forward to Rudolf. Wildhorn is just great stuff. I wanted to see something on my trip I DIDN'T know well while I was over there and now they've filmed it and I don't have the self control to not get the DVD! Still have issues with the pop single a little. ha.

I thought it could be the next big Austrian show sad.gif

My Stuttgart Wicked tickets arrived today!!!! Fabulous!
Petra
Saintaelphaba, from what I've gathered, you're going to Europe at the end of January? The way things are going (nothing's been officially announced yet... asides from auditions for the show that's replacing it), Rudolf won't even be around anymore when you come over - it's probably closing around New Year's/early Jan.

If you do miss it, it's for the best, really. What TheSitar said - fabulous cast, horrid show. It has around three good songs, the rest of it is Rudolf sitting around moping about how it sucks to be a prince (poor baby!), and not even Drew Sarich in all his awesomeness can make the material substantially less bad.

Hey Petra, yep am heading off late Dec/early Jan. I booked the Rudolf ticket a little while ago through http://www.viennaticketonline.com/ ? So the ticket has been been sitting in my drawer for about a month. Of course they could always refund once they've closed the show if its not running that long.
From what I hear I'm not overly excited anymore. Mainly the Vienna trip was for Tanz and that was just something else to see one of the evenings I'm there. Since I've missed Rebecca.....
Petra
From what I can see on there, they're only letting you book through the end of Dec, which sounds about right. Ergo, you'll probably make it to the show before it closes.

Re "not overly excited", it's a good attitude to go into the show with. I do know people who like it, so you may well end up being one of them - yay if that's the case. Otherwise... as I said, the cast make it worth seeing (heck, Wietske's big solo number alone makes it worth seeing wink.gif), and there are a couple of good numbers in between all the moping. Which, frankly, makes it a better show than quite a few I've seen recently... (*cough*tooclosetothesun*cough*whydalliwhy*cough*)

The date of the final performance has been confirmed for January 29th (Friday). Don't know how (and if) that affects your travel plans, globetrotters? smile.gif

The date of the final performance has been confirmed for January 29th (Friday). Don't know how (and if) that affects your travel plans, globetrotters? smile.gif

Nope, I'm there well before then. Tickets have arrived and so am looking forward to it. Thanks for the post though!!

I will need to alter travel to see the show sad.gif as was all set for the 30th & 31st and payment made via the fan club. Waiting patiently to see if we can now get tickets for final Stuttgart Wicked cause that was the plan...to be there for the finale! pray.gif Silly I know when one considers other more tragic things going on in the world but sad that my Wicked bubble has burst, and bit depressed for words atm! sad.gif sad.gif

Can you just book online and get a refund from whoever you paid?? (or perhaps they will organise the Friday? Worth giving them a call tonight??)

Tried to book online last night but comes up with the following message:

"The event can not be booked at short notice due to organizational reasons. You can try to purchase at a later date."

Organiser confirmed the date was changed by Stage Entertainment for the finale when the theatre was given the 31st! mumble.gif Don't envy his job of sorting this mess and waiting to see if we can get in for the 29th. One positive is that I didn't book Tanz on that date which was my initial plan. Had dates been posted earlier could have done finales of both shows which would have been so amazing! Will now organise to fly direct from London to Stuttgart then Oberhaussen for Tanz and back to Stuttgart if we get tix for finale. elphie3.gif

You're in the fanclub, too? Damn, almost makes me wish to go to the Derniere and not feel alone at not being the only non-German there. biggrin.gif In any case, we'll get news from Thomas on Monday hopefully.
The problem is that the tickets for Jan 29 had already been released for sale (the date is currently blocked) and quite a few of them were sold, or so they tell me. So nobody knows if Stage is going to have to cancel the previous purchases, or let the fanclub have the remaining tickets. It's all a bit hectic atm. *g*

Fingers crossed that everything works out for you!

Sounds all very messy :S

Does this mean the final evening is almost sold out? Melbourne sold out in quick timing (apart from right up the back).... eeek.

-LaFemm; why don't you change your plans to attend Stuttgart Wicked earlier and then carry on your way? That way you don't have to return?

I don't think it's *that* bad. Nobody knew the final evening would be on 29th and they blocked the date before they gave the official announcement. So I guess people just bought the tickets because it was "one of the final performances". huh.gif

You should go, would love to meet you, see Wicked finale and party! biggrin.gif Waiting patiently to hear back from Thomas...I emailed him as soon as I read your post and he responded that night....the poor guy was so apologetic in his email and the sheer frustration of it all considering he had taken payments for two shows from my friend who planned it all (included the club meeting with cast). Feel better knowing that the date was blocked before Stage announced it. My concern is that the theatre is so much smaller than ours and the final Melbourne show sold out quickly as saintaelphaba said. Though as you said, was not known as the final/derniere performance so will probably be okay. Fingers, toes and eyes are crossed! tongue.gif

If I don't hear back by this Wednesday will book an earlier show, then do Tanz and back to Stuttgart for finale. Hmmmm not return???? headscratch.gif Question....if you were in Germany, had the opportunity to go to the finale with the guarantee of seeing Willie...you would not return??? z4dwink.gif

Haha, no way. First of all, I've seen the German cast enough times so as not to be desperate to go see the finale and pay that much money for it. Especially not for Lucy, who I like the least of the German Glindas. wink.gif And secondly, I've got exams at the time. v_v

I don't know, Palladium doesn't seem *that* small. o.O Either the theatre in Melbourne is gigantic, or you're simply panicking for no reason. biggrin.gif

I don't know if you get the "official newsletter", but in it Thomas said he'd hear from his contact in the theatre on Wednesday because the guy's on holiday or something. The fanclub will definitely get tickets for the final performance, the only question/problem is which ones they're getting. wink.gif

Just to jump in... the theatre in Melbourne is gigantic. xD Maybe the stalls are the same size roughly... but our circle is equally massive (and also a lot further back). It's a barn!

I was somewhat calm when saintaelphaba first mentioned cause I rationalised that the 29th was the last date for the general public with the 31st akin to an official opening with limited tickets for the public available at a later date...THEN panic set in after I read your initial post and could not book online, on top of Thomas's email. I am calm again now cause worrying is such waste of energy plus I have faith it will work out....has to...cause the reason the OS trip even came to be was due to my strong desire to see Willie as Elphaba! jam.gif I want fierce and she's it! Roberta would be great to see too but Willie is the Elphie for me! elphie3.gif I don't get the newsletter cause my friend organised it all recently BUT thanks for the info...will wait till Friday with the time difference and then deal with it. *Makes up tshirt...Stuttgart Wicked or BUST!* tongue.gif At least have Tanz for now!
