Okay, so I just got "Wicked: Around The World In One Short Day" and on the first page, it has something by Stephen Schwartz and at the end, it says "We look forward to facing the next challenges of the globalization of WICKED as productions come up in Holland, Finland, and Denmark, and beyond. What a ride it is proving to be!"

I'm really thrilled about this! I already knew about Holland, it's been announced for quite some time to open at either the Circustheater in Scheveningen or the new VanDen Ende Theater in Amsterdam. I think it will play the VanDen Ende in Amsterdam, because Mary Poppins at the Circustheater will probably run for quite some time, unless they decide to go on tour after a few months in Scheveningen.

Denmark-I haven't heard about this before the book, but it will probably play the Det Ny Teater in Copenhagen, but I don't think this will go on tour in Denmark, because most theatres there are not big enough to fit Wicked.

Finland-I actually heard about this and that it will be next year at the Helsinki City Theatre.

What's odd about all of this is that the Det Ny and Helsinki City Theatre only house limited runs, and Wicked has never had international limited runs. In fact, all the productions have been sit-down besides the US tours and San Francisco tryout, so it kind of upsets me that it will only play a limited time in Denmark and Finland.

But this is still all really exciting!

Thoughts?

I still want Willemijn to bring the role to the Netherlands. Dutch Cast Recording FTW. heartbeat.gif

The Dutch rumours have been there for SO long. It's time for action, I think wink.gif

Recently this was said by Erwin van Lambaart, the producer/'boss' said (free translation):

"Zorro, We Will Rock You and Wicked are high on our wishlisht. It's our intention to bring these productions in one of the coming seasons to Holland. When exactly is not determined yet.
(In the future further away we hope to make our own versions of Spring Awakening and King & I)

Nothing is sure yet. It's not sure if the VdEnde theater will be finished... I heard there were some problems. The only theatre big enough for Wicked is Fortis Circus Theater in Scheveningen, and as said, Mary Poppins will play there from the spring. And since they're searching for Mary Poppins with a TV-show, I guess they intend to keep it there for quite a while...

Wicked will come to Holland, one day. I would actually prefer it if it came when Wicked in Oberhausen is closed, so that Willemijn can come back 'home' biggrin.gif [/selfish]

^agreed, but there are a LOT very talented actresses in Holland who want the role...

I think that it will be quite a 'battle' for the role of Elphaba!

But first, some real news and then auditions:P, as long as it isn't a "Search for..."

Much of that is to do with Volkov's 'Magic Land' series which plagiarised Baum's tale; The Wizard of the Emerald City was the exact same story as The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. Then the rest of his books ripped off concepts, plots, and ideas from Baum's Oz series. It's an utter literary crime.

I REALLY REALLY REALLY want a production in Ireland. So does my best friend. We want an Ireland production SO bad. We would go see it twenty times over.

Wickedly*Defying*Gravity, I want a Russian production, too! I was in Moscow about a month ago and saw Beauty and the Beast at the MDM Theatre in Moscow and it looks big enough to fit Wicked, for sure.

A Russian production would be AWESOME.

I'd be excited for any production.

As long as they take Wietske for Glinda, I won't care who plays Elphaba. biggrin.gif

Please can they do Wicked & WWRY first to give me time to save up because if they do Zorro I'll want to go & see it & I can't afford to go to Holland at the moment - going to the Paris production in November is going to be expensive enough!

I'm aware of that and i actually grew up on the claymation cartoon versions of the plagiarised books ur talkin about, like the wizard of the emerald city. But it's just considered, IMO, a Russian version of the story, just as Disney has "plagiarised" many classic old stories and Disneyfied them. There's no way of making "Oz" sound good in Russian. The Wizard of the Emerald City sounds fantastic in Russian, and i loved both the original Baum/MGM version and russian versions growing up. The wizard of the emerald city is basically EXACTLY the Wizard Of Oz just in russian and with different names and some exact names. And besides, the actual Wizard Of Oz stories are also popular in Russia, along with the MGM movie. Anyway, Wicked would be amazing in Russia, cuz they love Oz related things, and magic and witches and stuff.
