I saw the matinee yesterday. I am not going to write a review, but will share some quick thoughts.
Before I get to Katie, I just want to say that I LOVED Jenny Fellner. She has a great voice and her acting was fantastic.
Now onto Katie. Her singing is beautiful and I like that she talks in a "normal" voice rather than a squeaky voice. In Act 1, there were some things she did that I really, really liked and there were some things she did that made me cringe. I think she is a bit too spastic/over-the-top for my taste. Her Act 2 was excellent. Keep in mind that, in Act 2, there really aren't opportunities for Glinda to be crazy/over the top.

Mine too. I've only seen four, but I thought Helene Yorke, Meggie Cansler, and Michelle London were all above her - Meggie & Michelle by miles. I would jump at the chance to see her again, and I thought she was very good, but had a lot of interpretation flaws.

Interesting thoughts. I've seen katie and i thought she was the most sincere, elegant and true Glinda i've seen. I thought she chose to be funny when it was necessary, but i never felt she overdid it, just had a good time. I felt that Katie really captured the heart the character should have. Her Glinda will be one that I will always remember, whereas some fade away over time. LOVE!

I strongly disagree with those who think Katie is too over-the-top and their least favorite Glinda. She never goes way overboard like Megan did twoard the end of her initial LA run or like Kate Reinders did on Broadway before Ana Gasteyer came. She might spazz a little bit during "Popular" but it was because she always has such a great time on stage. She also has such an amazing transformation in Act II. She's one of the only few Glindas today who brings depth into the character.

I absolutely loved Katie when I saw her, and she's one of my top favorites. I thought she hit the right balance of being hilarious at some times, and then still getting the deeper side of Glinda when needed.
And even during her spazzier moments, she still wasn't close to Megan Hilty at the end of her LA run.

I think Katie portrays Glinda beautifully. She brings so much depth to the role that some other actresses have failed to present. The only true spazziness that I remember from Katie was during Popular, and I found it to be hilarious. Her acting seemed spot on for the entire show, and her voice is just perfect for the role.

I'm gonna have to jump on the Katie's-not-over-the-top bandwagon. I saw her three times in June, two months before the end of her run on tour. Never have I seen a more nuanced, sincere, thoughtful, and REAL Glinda. I agree with the notion that most newer Glindas (particularly ones like Annaleigh Ashford and Helene Yorke) have tried to continue in the Megan Hilty vein. The problem is, they take the spazztastic part of Megan Hilty's portrayal that Megan blended brilliantly with a deep and meaningful portrayal for her Broadway and tour runs and water it down to just the spazztastic part. Glindas like Katie (and Erin Mackey, for that matter), meanwhile, use the elements that make audiences laugh while giving truly deep performances that, in many cases (particularly in Katie's current situation and almost every cast situation Erin Mackey's ever been in) far outshine the portrayals of their counterparts.
In conclusion, Katie for the win. Even if her "Popular" is laced with antics, they are antics that WORK and that she blends well into her portrayal. Keep doing what you're doing, Katie.

I think I'm the only one who doesn't see her as a "spastic" G. Someone on here said she reinvented the role. I think that was said when she left but that is beyond true. We definitely have more spazzy Galinda's like Helene and Alli who IMO pull it off well anyway I think it just depends on who you have seen previously.

I'm wondering if Katie is a fantastic actress or just a smart actress. Of course I'll see for myself, but it seems as though she "spazzes" in Act 1 and then in Act 2 she gets rid of all of those tendencies which isn't exactly fantastic acting that's just a smart choice. A change from hot to cold isn't really a transition.
However I must commend her for being the first one smart enough to use the script to it's fullest, with the transition.
Also, I'm not judging Katie because I haven't seen her, I personally think that she is fantastic, I am just speculating and wondering if her transitionl is like what I think it is.

I really hate when people judge a Glinda based on her Popular. Yes, it's a big song for Glinda but just because Katie or Megan, or whoever are a bit or too spazzy durring Popular, that doesn't make their act 1 bad. Just like some people judge an Elphaba's FULL performace on a couple riffs and the 1:30 minutes she's flying in DG. Sorta sad. Look at the actors as a whole, because honestly no one's performance is perfect and in general no one is perfect.

well I saw her yesterday (finally won lotto!) I didn't find her necessarily spazzy but she did a few things which made me cringe. Her second act, though, was my favorite of all the Glindas I've seen. She also had great chemistry with the rest of the cast.
The bubble didn't come down when it was supposed to during NOMTW and whomever yells out "Look its Glinda" first adlibbed with something to the effect of "wait I think i see someone coming"-- too funny.

I agree. If anything you should judge a Glinda on her Thank Goodness or even No One Mourns the Wicked. Popular isn't a very substantial song.
